More change at Wests Tigers as assistant coach Rod Reddy leaves NRL club

Wests Tigers have parted company with assistant coach Rod Reddy as Jason Taylor continues the cleanout of the club on and off the field. Reddy, a former Dragons and Steelers backrower who represented Australia in 17 Tests, has been part of the Tigers staff in recent seasons. However, the veteran official is part of an exodus that includes National Youth Competition coach Brett Kimmorley, fellow assistant Matt Cameron, NSW Cup coach Paul Fletcher and at least a dozen players deemed surplus to requirements.

Former South Sydney halfback Willie Peters, who has enjoyed success again with the Rabbitohs coaching in the lower grades, will be appointed as the NYC coach. Taylor's former Parramatta teammate, Paul Stringer, will join the staff in a role likely to cover some NSW Cup and NRL work.

"We're looking at a restructure of our coaching staff comes together," Taylor said. "With some adjustments in NSW Cup going forward and where the NYC competition fits, we felt we wanted to be on top of things there. "It's important we get it right."

The Tigers are turning over a large percentage of their playing roster, with departees including Keith Galloway, Pat Richards, Matthew Lodge, Keith Lulia, Joel Luani, Kurtis Rowe, Sitaleki Akauola, Brendan Santi, Te Maire Martin and Shannon McDonnell. Several other contracted players, including centre Chris Lawrence, have been told they are free to negotiate with other clubs.

A question mark remains over the future of captain Robbie Farah, who has been granted permission to negotiate with other clubs despite having two years to run on his $950,000-per-season contract.

However, one Tigers stalwart staying put is Dene Halatau. The former New Zealand international is off contract and the club is squeezed for salary cap space but the Tigers are keen to extend his second stint at the joint-venture outfit and the parties are close to finalising a one-year extension.

The club also recently announced the addition of forward Rod Griffin and William McConnachie, as well as the re-signing of Jack Buchanan.

My same thoughts - he appointed them all and now Cameron, Kimmorley and Reddy all gone. Though I am assuming that given he has complete control of the coaching and playing roster that he is the one doing the sacking and the replacing.

Smart coaches hire the right people the first time round.

Another scapegoat thrown overboard Taylor must be running out of people to blame.Lets hope he can get things right in 2016

True , but I wonder if some of his assistants were from the bargain basement bin and now he has a few dollars to throw at the assistants he does want

Plus the game is about to change , perhaps these assistants are better suited to make the changes required

The proof will be in the pudding either way after 26 rounds in 2016

Hire the Walker Bros. as the new attack coaches? They'd certainly bring some spark into the team.

I don't recall him ever blaming anyone.

What exactly was his role at the Tigers? As I remember, the televised meeting at the start of the year, the way JT explained it was he was a "go between coach" for 1st Grade and NSW Cup? I could never understand what that role entailed other than being a gofer for JT.

Was the most bizarre addition, playing or coaching wise this club has ever made imo. A massive blast from the past. If Boonboon is to be believed that the real issue was Reddy and Farah has a good relationship with JT, then the two sides that have been arguing the last 2 months have reached a stalemate

Just out of curiosity, were these appointments such as Reddy, Cameron , Fletcher, Kimmorley etc all 100% Taylor, or were they 90% appointed before he came and then a rushed announcement before the pre season started? Mayer was still here andvthe board had not been in long.

Just wondering whether the blame for these appointments is squarely on Taylor, or were they hurried garbage appointments as the timeline might otherwise indicate?

Could simply be gone because of ability or changing coaching structure, but for mine he is most likely the sacrificial lamb, deserved or not, in the latest and greatest Robbie saga.

Looks like another good move from the club in obtaining the right coaching structure moving forward.
