Referendum

I found it funny one person on twitter posted one little screen shot of what they believe was being added to the constitution if the yes got up

John Howard criticized Albo when Albo said he didn't have to read the 28 pages of change to the constitution
What's with you Odessa.

You quoted Peta Credlin, when she bossed Elected MP's around and told them to get lost! Credlin is a Karen on more steroids then the Cronulla Sharks in 2015. Seriously some weird power dominance relationship between her and her servant Tony abbott.

Now you quote John Howard, who wrote a silly preamble which Australia voted down. He also pushed for a Parliamentry controlled republic, which many Australians did not want. They wanted Direct election and John Howard pushed that down.

Albo has lossed 1, John Howard lossed 2 referendum.
Do you think these people are fighting for you? They are riding you.

It’s quite simple really. All Australians, and I mean all, not just indigenous, want the gap closed and everyone’s lot in life improved. But not by changing the constitution to single out one particular race. What an absolute waste of time and money and cause of division to enshrine a body that supposedly was advisory only and had no real power. Seriously….. but how PC to spend oodles of money on a panel that has no power and puffs hot air, would continue to eat money hand over fist and continues to create and propagate separatism.

Remember how cocky and arrogant the Yes voters were on the other thread. They definitely don't live in their elitist bubbles detached from the rest of the country at all.

Nobody was more shocked at the result than Albo. He was one back, one off the fence, riding hands and heels, threw the whip away, shouting we‘re home!!
His confidence was unwavering, right up until the count started.

Even though Albo is copping it delux for this failure and rightfully so due to his shockingly smug, condescending and aggressive demeanour during this past year, special mention should go to some other groups.

The First Nations Referendum Working Group which contained esteemed members such as Langton, Pearson, Davis, Mayo, Parkin and 16 others was tasked with organising the timing of the referendum. the wording of the constitutional amendment and the question. These memberships were paid positions for the past 13 months. FAIL.

The First Nations Referendum Engagement Group which consisted of all 21 members of the Working Group + another 40 members selected along lines of gender, sexuality and disability as well as Aboriginality and Torres Straight Islander heritage. They were tasked with advising on building community understanding, awareness and support for the referendum and were paid memberships for the past 12 months. FAIL.

The Constitutional Expert Group, which provided legal support to the Referendum Working Group on key issues relating to the content and drafting of the constitutional amendment and the referendum more generally. It consisted of 8 members in paid positions for the past 12 months. FAIL.

It should be noted that Professor Megan Davis and Noel Pearson appeared on ALL THREE of these groups. They deserve as much flak as Albo is getting and to be honest more as they pulled his strings for the past 12 months. You watch them go to ground now and let him take the fall.

That old saying approved time and time again: "How do you know that politicians do not tell the truth? When their mouths are open."

Albo is a joke. He is suggesting that the lack of bipartisanship is to blame for this not passing. Okay, but did he check with the liberals and get their buy-in before launching this? Or just ram it down their throat and expect them to support?

What a joke of a comment.
I don't know anyone, left or right that does not want to 'close the gap' but doing it this way was beyond arrogant and a clear display of inner city elites thinking they are the country. Egg meet face, however as we have seen in the media the last couple of days the delusion rolls on.

Going forward what needs to happen now (and it should be biartisin if the YES voters really do care more than a 5 min virtue signal and a twitter emoji in their bio) is an actual audit of where the billions upon billions are going and why the hundreds of programmes already set up to 'close the gap' are failing. Won't happen though, easier to be divisive, claim racism, line those pockets with tax cash over actually pulling your boot straps up rolling your sleeves up and getting to work to 'close the gap'.

As a person who worked on these costings and wrote the budget papers mate, I agree. I was there during Howard's era and I thought he made some really clever policies. ICAS was one I worked on which was an interest rate subsidy for indigenous start-ups.

If I could have voted, I would have been Yes. It would have brought more "ownership" from indigenous communities from new policies cooked up by the voice. Because it's obviously not working now.

But I certainly understand the No argument. Just hope at a minimum, it's put the spotlight on the ideation of new indigenous policy.

So sad that fear, lies, misinformation and racism won in the end.

Shame on Dutton for politicising an issue of humanity. This was never a party policy or had anything to do with Labor, it was just a neutral request for national support which came directly from the Indigenous community. The fact that 60% of the country supported Pauline Hanson and her racist party is beyond appalling.

The amount of crap like" you won't own your house, you won't be able to go to the beach anymore, no laws will be able to pass without the Voice's approval, such absurd nonsense that the public and the media failed to protest or stop promoting and in the end just succumbed to.

I'd estimate that maybe 30% of the pop are just racist assholes, in QLD, WA and other regional areas. We know these people exist, that's their right. I don't know if any amount of education could make rednecks less racist.

The other 30% are largely uneducated gullible fools who accepted the avalanche of lies and confusion that Dutton and his helpers covering nearly all mainstream media in Australia saturated the nation with. It was a very simple proposition, one that wouldn't impact 99% of the citizens of this country, would minimise the wasting of billions of dollars and could directly improve the lives and wellbeing of our first nations people.

The question was essentially: "Do you care about the lives of Indigenous Australians". 60% of Australian's apparently don't. Which is sad, tragic and just plain revolting.

If you voted no you are either lazy, ignorant, racist or selfish. There is no running from that fact, no matter what you believe. You made a fully informed decision? Then you're probably selfish or racist. Didn't understand what you were voting on? Then you're probably lazy or ignorant. You put yourself ahead of the lives of our most disadvantaged citizens, even though you won't be negatively impacted at all by this advisory board! No love or compassion, just hate. What a sad reflection of the current state of Australia, we're becoming more and more like the American Mid-west, a truly shocking state.

Hopefully out of all this changes will be made to ensure only factual and pre-verified political advertising is permitted in Australia, as well as a massive shake up of the sensationalist propaganda machine that is the current state of Australian media, which has also never been in a worse state.

And yes an inquest is needed into the wasting of billions that should be going towards the people in need and not corporates lining their pockets. Too many jobs for the boys only interested in looking after one's mates. The funding processes should be made more transparent and anyone who's acted inappropriately punished to the fullest extent of the law.

Not sure if you heard mate, the NO vote won, racism lost.
