Reflecting on my time on the forum

Its all about perspective. I've been a Tigers supporter (in both it's iterations) for 57 years! There have been moments of glory, but by and large, mostly disappointment.
But then I look around and see what really matters - family, friends, this amazing planet on which we live and I realise, that a game of footy isn't that big of a deal. Perspective, guys - its footy. Its not really that important.

Yep, completely agree. Last night was the first game for the WTs I didn't watch this year due to family reasons. You know what, I feel no frustration, no anger, no negative emotions and that's because I didn't subject myself to it and you do realise what important once you step back slightly. I'm not even going to watch the highlights and let this week go straight through to the keeper.

I'm not that disapointed by this season. It's exposed some flaws in our team and I think shown that we have something to build on going forward.

I joined the forum at the start of 2011. From 2012 onwards we’ve missed the finals every year. Being on this forum without us playing finals is all I know. It’s all the majority of us know since a lot of regulars have joined after me and have been on here for years and years. I really don’t know what it’s like to discuss a successful team. My time has been made up of crisis after crisis. From Farah vs JT to Cleary to losing Tedesco. . It’s sad. I feel sorry for all of us cos we devote so much time and emotion to this place, and they suck it out of you till you become irreverent to everything. Which on the surface seems great cos you don’t have to feel the lows like tonight. But it sucks, cos you want to bleed with your team, it shouldn’t get you to a point where you don’t even care when we lose. But it does.

Mate love your passion and your numerous threads. You sound like a top bloke.

A lifetime of mediocrity for me. I started supporting Balmain because I felt sorry for them after the 89 GF.

I started supporting the Magpies because I felt sorry for them when they tried to kick us out in the mid 80s. Many bad years, but I don't regret it.

Two decades of watching the magpies and two decades of watching the tigers. It's not getting any better

40 years of the Magpies and 20 of WT - think i deserve a medal of bravery or maybe a kick for stupidity.

We say we don't care. But we log on the following week and rant in the live game thread and the fifty odd analysis threads that appear afterward.

Followed Balmain from the 89 GF as a wee tacker. From 1990 onward I have seen Balmain and WT make a grand total of 4 times in 30 years. Magpies fans have enjoyed a couple of extra finals series prior to the merger in that time but it's still rather underwhelming for both sides of the JV.

If it was too much for any of us we'd have walked away already. The club might suck but in some small way I embrace it and we can all take solace in that if and when WT becomes a force we will have earned it as fans.

Look at Broncos fans burning jerseys and threatening players, that's one season! They don't know what adversity is. We do. We'll overcome it eventually, we just have to hope we aren't all in pine boxes by then.

Because we have been average for so long, every victory seems special.
The forum after a win is awesome.
The forum after a loss is awesome too
I really enjoy reading users on this forum dissect our team/coach/games. Everyone’s different opinion makes you think deeper into rugby league.
I started lurking around 2014,didn’t join to 2019 (I was really excited about the new coach 😂)
I started supporting The Tigers around 1998 but didn’t start religiously watching every game till about 2001 so I consider myself a wests tigers fan ,not Balmain not the Magpies.
2011 was the only year I thought the Tigers were an elite team, even when we won the comp I still considered us underdogs.
I have no idea what it would be like to support a team built on success.
Roosters fans would of thought nothing of last nights game, they wouldn’t be impressed by their team they would of watched that game with zero stress fully expecting to win.

I think you deserve a bit of transparency from the club on where we are actually heading .
Our plan.
Is there a plan.
What the hell is happening .
Not some crap CEO update on welcoming some 18 year old to the club and an update on the COE.

As far as I’m concerned your better off following a team that has been doing bad then a successful team . The way the broncos supporters and sycophants in media about their performances has been disgusting . They are what I like to call plastic supporters who only support during the good times , also means the good times doesn’t mean much . Chin up when the good times roll , you will feel like a million bucks

Maybe, but those sycophants actions will drive change in that club.

The bottom line, it’s only football. It’s only taken me 60 years to put things in perspective!! Every year I think this will be the year we start our charge towards some future glory days, and every year when the mid season grind hits in we falter...you can set your watch by it. Than we are told that due to previous coaches,CEO’s or who ever that we are in a rebuild stage and not to expect to much for another couple of years.

I guess what saddens me is other teams rise from the cellar but we never do. Anyway I still have faith in Madge and if he gets the chance to clean out some of the dumbest recruitments ever made in the history of the NRL I think there is still hope...but not this year and probably not next

Do you enjoy watching other teams play more than us? I look forward to watching the chooks and Panthers this year. They're bloody good football teams who play great footy. There's not to many tigers games that are enjoyable.

Joined up a couple of years after @GNR4LIFE, at a time when you could post as a guest, having been lurking for a while at the end of the Sheens era, so few results to celebrate and nothing annual. Have seen some contributors and go, had reasonably minimal argument and took a few weeks break a little while ago, but keep coming back for more and now watching more footy under the new ruck rules than any time during that period.

What I have noticed is the general social progression amongst my fellow forumers and see that as a great thing, with the younger ones joining and having a positive influence. On a side note, Milky is likely under the thumb or has just given up.

I wouldn’t miss a Tigers game for quids but I enjoy watching other teams play
( big games ) as much as our games if not more

Good old Benjimagic96. He’s grown up and has other stuff going on these days I think. Tacky is another one was all over the forum for a while, then seemingly took a trip to the Bermuda Triangle

Its hard to beat a good game of footy. I miss the times when our games meant something.

At least we shifted the ball a bit last night to try and break the dominance of our middle, which made it a bit more enjoyable than watching us get smashed there a few weeks ago and not doing anything about it. Can cop going down swinging, just not watching an unchanging robotic flawed game plan.

I thought we gave it a shot. I'm okay with that effort.

I mean playing in games that effect the competition.

This I think has to be the best club forum that I’ve been on without a doubt. The layout and quality and quantity of information is very good.

Other clubs forums that I visit for rumours and different perspectives on potential recruits are pretty dismal. Think the Storm live game thread had like 10 pages the other night and half of it was “pre game, team lists Tuesday etc”. Not many posters/perspectives or threads even. We got it good in one sense at least, perhaps united through the hard times like they say...

On that note, big thanks to everyone that contributes and gives their perspectives and to those that keep the forum running smoothly and keep the peace
