Report from the Balmain AGM; new sponsor announced this week

Hope what has happened this week doesn't ruin the sponsorship- that would really make the Benji incident more significant in terms of the club

considering they sponsored carlton and extended their deal while fevola was there i don't think this would worry them too much.

club culture is more the concern, and from the outside looking in,i would say the wests tigers are somewhere around the top of positive club cultures.
one of the great achievements by sheens since he came here.

I wonder how the A-League feel about Hyundai sponsoring an NRL side? Obviously the A-League isn't as high profile a sport in this country as the NRL and the A-League isn't in a position where they can dictate terms to sponsors, but that's gotta grind their gears!

Im glad we've sorted something for the back of the jumpers. They were looking a little bare. Just felt as though something was missing. Lets just hope Hyundai hits the spot

i think higer is a sponsor too. it was on the sleeve of Benji's polo in a photo in the telecrap.

Thats what i was saying in an Older Topic i started but was too lazy to put a Pic up. Thanks for the Pic. Is there any announcement that confirms Hyundai as the Hyundau Logo and Higer Logo are very similar??

Annoucement this week.

"A “prominent” back-of-jersey sponsor will be announced during the week. Mr Humphreys said that it has taken time to find the right sponsor for the right price."

Higer isnt exactly prominent.

Hyundai have been a sponsor in Rugby League before and were the front of jumper 'read' main sponsor of the Belmore Bastards when they won the NSWRL comp some time back in the mid 90's.
With regards to Proton they were a great sponsor for the Tigers, we needed them as much as they needed us, they are now making world class cars being guided by Lotus.
Who had ever heard of X-Blades before they came on board or Wokka, yes we have had a few dodgy sponsors in Herbal World and Radisson-Maine but all in all we've had great support.
I imagine that Don's Smallgood would have remained as a major sponsor for years if it were not for the amateur proctologist in John Hopoate.
Remember that 25 years ago Hyundai were regarded as a joke with their cheap and nasty models but how good did they turn out to be, many many Excels are still on the road and 10 years ago we bought a brand new Sonata that gave us 10 years of trouble free motoring and our first ever new car.
My daughter bought a Accent with no dramas and with Proton being a Tigers sponsor last year went out and got herself a new Proton, again no dramas.
Sponsors like Meriton, Proton & now Hyundai see a great future for our club so why can't some of our fans realise there is a future beyond Commondore's, get with the times and get behind the sponsors.

Benji's legs are looking jacked up in that pic.
Must be doin' those lunges and squats.

On another note; I wish Subaru sponsored us.
I don't know why but I think they're a classy car.
Not the biggest fan of Hyundai but I drive one currently & no problems, good on fuel & growing as a brand no doubt.
Maybe it'll grow on me just like Suzuki did.

The Balmain Tigers RLFC Ltd held its Annual General Meeting at Leichhardt Oval this morning. Over one hundred members were presented with reports from Chairman David Trodden, Wests Tigers CEO Stephen Humphreys, players Tim Moltzen and Lote Tuqiri and several other senior members of the organisation. This was the members’ chance to have their questions answered by management of the club on-the-record and is yet another reason why all fans should become members of either the Western Suburbs or Balmain RLF clubs.

Whilst no major announcements were made, below is a selected summary of what was discussed. (Click Read More to read the full report)

Stephen Humphreys:
· Noted how great the past year has been
· Spoke of the remarkable turnaround within the team after the Souths loss
· **A conscious decision was made not to buy any marque players this year, instead focussing on reinforcing the stability within the playing roster**
· He regards the NYC side’s chances this year as very good
· Spoke highly of Aaron Woods, saying that he will play First Grade this year
· Ben Murdoch Masila is regarded as a future representative player
· The club is in great health, in a good financial position and Mr Humphreys expects this to continue
· Jersey sponsorship value was the highest in Sydney
· A “prominent” back-of-jersey sponsor will be announced during the week. Mr Humphreys said that it has taken time to find the right sponsor for the right price.
· Merchandise at Concord and Gear Zone accounted for $1.5mil in revenue for the club. This does not include any sales from retailers.
· He is confident that the Wests Tigers will be in the mix for the premiership at the year’s end
· Stated that both the club and Tim Sheens want to continue their relationship and it’s only a matter of time before an extension is finalised.

Lote Tuqiri
· Loves being at Wests Tigers and loves playing at Leichhardt Oval
· Spoke of the competition for spots in the starting side and how this should benefit the team as a whole.

Tim Moltzen
· His knee is feeling great
· He is looking forward to getting back to playing
· When asked what his preferred position was, he said he “was warming to halfback” before the injury.
· He is still excited about playing with Lote Tuqiri

Wests Tigers & Balmain Financials (Mark Crowe)
· It was noted that the Wests Tigers are still moving towards financial independence from the clubs with around a $400,000 grant issued last year.
· Wests Tigers recorded approximately $10mil in revenue last year, an increase of $1.5mil on the previous year.
· A $3.5mil grant from the NRL was received
· Total Wests Tigers income was $13.48mil
· Primary expenses were $8mil for Football Operations and $1.4mil for Management.

Rozelle Redevelopment (Benny Elias)
· The new development plan includes a larger, 4000sqm club. It will be “State of the art” and a “bull terrier”
· The acceptance as a Section 3A development would be a “boon”.
· The current timeframe is:

o Receive a DGR from the Department of Planning, taking 3 to 4 months
o 1 month exhibition and submission period
o Plans handed back to the government
Balmain Tigers Rugby League
· Sean Meaney was announced as club captain
· Luke Brooks is recovering well from his broken foot and should be back playing by the middle of the year

David Trodden and the Board of Directors should be commended for holding yet another immensely successful AGM. Stephen Humphreys should also be commended for taking the time to report to members of the club.

"focussing on reinforcing the stability within the playing roster"

Hmmmm…okaaaay

More porkies.

Strength of management is also their ability to make strategic changes when needed.

At the time of the AGM, I’m certain that they would have thought that was the best direction for the club.

The interpretation of the rules has certainly changed and does not suit the style of game we were playing. I feel the management should be applauded for making the hard calls. Make no mistake if they make the call and if doesn’t reap benefits they will be gone.

Do we want to win a comp……. yes. Will we win one with our current roster and style of game………………. no

An AGM is just that…..an annual occurence

ie: yearly.

Less than a year in and we're going away from that.
Of course things have changed, like our cap situation.

Keep your heads in the sand ostriches.

Thank you Captain obvious

oh my god everythings great in the garden of eden just dont mention the war i mean the cap yaeah the cap the mess were in now what bs. :unamused:

Ink, how about you wait until our 2012 roster is finalised before you go slitting your wrists? Just a thought. Ill wait till everything is finalised before casting judgement.

The club has underperformed for years on end and they now seem to be making changes. Whether this is because of financial mismanagement or simply a new direction, well we'll have to wait and see.

Haha wrist slitting…exxagerating much?
You seem defensive.

Just highliting the ''say one thing, do another'' nature of the club.
Do you think once we know the new recruits we will really know whats behind this sudden change of heart?

Dont play silly buggers, you know whats going on.
Hurts eh.
