South Sydney NRL players Dylan Walker and Aaron Gray have been rushed to hospital this morning amid reports at least one of them may have suffered an adverse reaction to medication.

Ambulance NSW has confirmed two men were taken to St Vincent’s Hospital after being found at a home at around 3.45am.

The pair were initially in a serious condition but are now stable and remain in hospital.

Representatives for Walker said the player suffered an adverse reaction to pain relief drugs Oxycodone and Tramadol after recent surgery.

It remains unclear how Gray came to be unwell.

Gray's father has confirmed to 9NEWS reporter Danny Weidler his son has been taken to hospital.

The Rabbitohs said in a statement both players had undergone recent surgery.

"The South Sydney Rabbitohs have confirmed that two of its players, Dylan Walker and Aaron Gray, were admitted to hospital this morning, and both are in a stable condition," the club said in a statement.

"Both players had post season surgery last week, following the end of the Club’s season, in preparation for pre-season training to commence later this year.

"The Club is keeping abreast of the situation and will not be making any further comment at this stage."

Walker, 20, was a member of the Rabbitohs’ 2014 premiership team and has represented Australia.

Gray, 21, recently re-signed with the club until 2017 and is a NSW under-20 representative.

Souths crashed out of the NRL finals on Sunday 13th September after losing to Cronulla at Allianz Stadium.

Suspicious much

adverse reaction to pain medication given to them after surgery last week? depends how you spin it

Both of them? At the same time? It may be true but it's an extraordinary coincidence.

i highly doubt they'd have been taking recreational drugs or any other substance like that so soon post op if that's what you're getting at…

Painkillers and alcohol aren't a good mix.

I'm not suggesting anything other than it seems unlikely two people would have the same reaction at the same time so long afterwards. That's not to say it isn't true just remarkable if it is as reported.

You're aware that plenty of people abuse painkillers, right?

The boys probably just had a few drinks while on tramadol and oxy and didn't realise what it would do to them. Wouldn't be the first to make that mistake.

lol there are so many things that can go wrong post op

another article already mentioned that this is not OD

they've mentioned the drugs they've taken- maybe a new brand was used or something like that.

really shows how badly rugby league players are viewed if the first thought most people have is that there is something suspiscious going on.. not having a dig at you guys but if it was two random people in the street having these reactions, the docs and the medical staff would be crapping themselves rather than the blame being directed on the patients.

Not necessarily saying they abused their painkillers, but it's certainly a scenario. It's not an absurd conclusion to come to either since both of them ended up in hospital at the same time.

Mac is probably right, they've taken their painkillers and had a couple of beers and it's hit them hard.

Actually the article (assuming this is the SMH one) has a quote from Danny Weidler saying it wasn't an OD. The same article also says a police investigation is taking place and notes that the two have been best mates for years. So yes it well be true that two best mates had an adverse reaction simultaneously while taking medication for surgery last week. It is equally true that more information may shed further light on what happened.

GEE SOME PEOPLE ON HERE CAN COME UP WITH THE BEST EXCUSES, why would u be on the drink after surgery and that both end up nearly dead, bet they were taking more than what has been stated. wish people would stop sticking up for these players they know what they are doing stop giving them a free pass.

how is it dumb or suspiscious?

good luck to both of them.

Serious? It's very much both.

I'm not a Dr…but, reaction at 4am?

Let's say they had their correct, prescribed dose...together...at a reasonable time of 1030 pm. I mean, post op they probably should be resting so that's reasonable. Would it take 6 hours for this reaction? That they both simultaneously had on a widely prescribed, common pain killer.

Ok.

I would bet good money on them having a few drinks, kicking in some oxy at 3-4am to top the night off and complications starting from that. Souths are just trying to stay ahead of the media frenzy ala Arizona.

It will all come out.

Morons if true.

You honestly think this has happened to 2 different people a week after their surgery and it is just a freak co-incidence with not a hint of anything strange? Wow! Maybe these 2 crazy kids were just having a sleepover and playing spin the bottle and Twister with Uncle Russ and Mrs Burgii. Fair dinkum some people are gullible….. I'd say the Rabbitohs got on the front foot early with this one considering they basically tried to cover up last years' Vegas Vacation episode with Sutton and L Burgess and got caught out. Shane Richardson apparently 'knew nussink' about that incident.....
