Retaining Juniors Salary Cap Idea

This may sound really really stupid but I just want to know everyone elses thoughts on it. In my opinion the NRL should only include signed players from other clubs in the salary cap which will be decreased to about 1.5 million dollars, this way clubs like sharks will have to have some of there juniors in their team. Juniors that are re signed wont be included in the salary cap so this will pretty much give the team an advantage.

So basically:

●Salary Cap Reduced to 1.5 million
●Only players from other clubs included
●Juniors not included in salary cap
●Easier for clubs to retain juniors
●Harder for other clubs to sign players therefore must play their juniors..

Thoughts?

How do you define juniors?

It seems to me that are truing to rub the Storm and other expansion clubs out of the game.

Been raised before.

Won't get past first base as the Roosters and some other clubs feel they are at a disadvantage. Clubs like Penrith and Brisbane have a much larger junior base.

Maybe Milky Juniors should be half value on Salary Cap, Say a Junior is on $300,000 he is only $150,000 on the Cap.

although clubs have to invest in development, a lot of it is down to luck. The Roosters, Manly and Sharks will always have a small junior base in the forseeable future due to their location and implementing this puts them, the new Perth team and Melbourne at severe disadvantages that is really just excessive.

Don't see how this could work at all.
Wouldn't every club try and sign all other club's juniors to make their junior league stronger hence being able to promote them up into the first grade side whilst beating the cap.

Just can't see it ever happening.
Fail idea.

NBA Draft style system would be better

I agree Milky that teams like the Tigers, Penrith, Canberra etc. should get an allowance for developing their Juniors and sticking with them up to FG. What that allowance is should be very high on the agenda of the NRL.
As it stands the clubs with the bigger catchment area put in the money, time and effort only to have the BIG MONEY Clubs like Roosters, Souths, Manly, Melbourne and Tiger Sharks more by deed, pinch the youngsters and reap the rewards. At the moment they are nothing but leeches on the game. If they can't develop their own Juniors because of being in a smaller area then maybe they should move to Perth, Queensland country or maybe Souths and Roosters should merge - even combined the area is still small. Money and power talks in this game though.

The other point I would like to make is for an allowance for one club Junior players e.g. Farrar and Lawrence to be considered. As an example, after 5 years I think an increasing scale should come into force, - 20% per year for every year served (only applies to Juniors). After ten years service it is zero and that players salary is not added to the cap.

Wow, wouldn't the Broncos love that. Huge junior area(s) to chose from + the Thoroughbreds. They could spend their entire cap on 2 marquee players

Farrar?
Ben Farrar from Manly? Ok…

Robbie was a bulldogs junior wasn't he?

Think you'll find Farah was a Balmain Junior - (picked up on missed spelling, that's ok we all get one wrong now and again Demps. If we picked up every missed spelt word that is all the Forum would be. A spelling B.
Main thing here was the point I was making - anyone got different views or should they continue to get away with it?.

Forget about the spelling, let's fix the grammar and punctuation!

Where's the other bracket( )? What about the ending with a question mark and full stop, lol

I just found the missing ")" CQ - it fell off the keyboard when punched by the full stop trying to get into the act.
It is ok now - he has been convicted and sentenced to end some future comment.
Glad we are all taking this topic seriously - it would be a shame if it was just a joke.
