Ricky Stuart gone

Absolute grub act from Stuart. First reneging on his Origin contract to coach Parra after all that talk of loyalty and rebuilding NSW. Then he pulls the same stunt with the Eels.
The bloke has never achieved anything as a coach. He inherited a premiership at the Roosters then went on to destroy the club. He pulled Cronulla apart and pulled the pin and has now done the same at Parra.
I have a bit of a soft spot for the Raiders as I've always enjoyed the way they play the game so it's hard to hope they fail, but gee I wouldn't mind seeing Stuart crash and burn for a 4th time consecutively. What an absolute grub.

Champion player for Canberra, NSW and Australia but a hopeless coach as everyone has already pointed out. Inherited a great Easts team which Graham Murray should have been coach of the premiershp side. Ruined Cronulla.

A worked with a former touch judge who did not have a kind word to say about Ricky Stuart. Very rude to everyone especially if you were a fan asking for an autograph

One thing I can not understand is why he is a darling in the media and the Rugby league world.

I tink Parramatta have dodge a bullet which Canberra are now stuck with for 3 years. I hope Canberra are clearing a space for a Wooden Spoon coming their way.

His decision paves the way for dumped Cowboys coach Neil Henry to take on the toughest job in the NRL - Stuart’s old job at the Parramatta Eels.

The appointment in Canberra will be announced Thursday, with Stuart returning to the club from where he became one of the great half-backs of the modern era.

He won three premierships in the lime green jersey (1989,1990 and 1994) and represented his state and country from the nation’s capital.

It was with great regret that he informed Parramatta officials Wednesday night he would be leaving just one year into a three-season deal.

**His decision is very much based on personal issues and care for his special-needs daughter.**

It will be the fourth club he has coached in the NRL, following on from stints at the Roosters, where he won a premiership, Cronulla and Parramatta.

Despite a disastrous year at the Eels, Raiders are convinced he is the right man to lead the underperforming club back to finals football in 2014.

Stuart played 203 games for the Raiders before finishing his playing career at the Canterbury Bulldogs.

It has always been the intention of retiring Canberra Raiders chairman John McIntyre to persuade Stuart to one day return to the club.

Stuart confirmed he would be leaving the Eels late Wednesday night in a phone call to chairman Steve Sharp.

“The period I’ve been with the Parramatta Eels has been extremely challenging, not only for me, but for many people like Steve Sharp who clearly have the best interests of the club at heart,” he said.

“I sincerely hope the stability the club is entitled to will soon return and reward those people who have genuine commitment and passion for the Eels.”

He would not comment on whether the off-field boardroom dramas contributed to his decision.

McIntyre announced he would stand down from the chairman’s role at the Raiders’ best and fairest awards Wednesday night after three decades.

His last job was to oversee the recruitment of Stuart.

McIntyre will be replaced by board member Dr Allan Hawke as chairman.

Dr Hawke paid tribute to McIntyre and his contribution to the Raiders.

“John McIntyre has dedicated his life to the Canberra Raiders and is the longest serving member of the organisation,” Dr Hawke said.

“He will always have a home at the Raiders and will continue on as club patron, a role his late father and Raiders founding father Les McIntyre held until he passed away in 2009.”

i dont want to sound cynical but what exactly does that mean?

Its an excuse, plain and simple, to try and ease the bad publicity. Anybody knows that there are numerously more support services for medically disabled kids in sydney than in Canberra. If that is the case however, has he been "neglecting" his daughters needs for the last 10 or so years here in Sydney???
Its rubbish…..

Can I ask the Stuart detractors one question? How come when he does well with the Roosters it's all on the squad he inherited, yet when he has a poor season with the Eels it's all on him? If you bag him for his gig at the Eels, then you have to give him credit for his efforts at the Roosters. Three consecutive grand finals is a feat that hasn't been matched since, unless the team was millions over the cap. Whilst Murray did assemble the squad, he still couldn't win a premiership with it.

The bloke thinks he can coach which is hilarious , but yet is wanted by everyone lol.
He walked into a Roosters side moulded by Graham Murray , didn't d anything at the Sharks or the Eels .
So how Canberra think he can coach is beyond me
Can't even honour his Contract's.

i sort of agree. i think he's a terrific coach- however his backflipping on contracts is making me doubt him as a person.

And that includes being equal minor premiers in 2008.

15 wins in his past 3 season.

Stephen Kearney took this Parra squad to more wins than Stuart managed…...there is a reason people are bagging Stuart.

PLUS he signed Willie Tonga to an extension despite being one of the worst high dollar buys just behind Sandow.

I know Kearney signed Tonga…..but Stuart EXTENDED him.

Kearney had Hindy and Burt in his Eels team, as well as Hayne for most of the season. It wouldn't matter who coached them this year, they would have run last, calling the squad diabolical would be a compliment to them. Whilst he isn't the best coach in the game, he is certainly not the worst (in fact he isn't even the worst to win a premiership in my opinion).

I think the names i rattled off are much much worse. Throw in an over the hill Paul Whatuira as well

I'll give you Tonga and Roberts. As for Reni, he's been exceptional in a poorly performed side. As far as Sandow goes, we signed a guy around the same time for pretty much the same price who hasn't done much either

I quoted the wrong post i know, only because it wouldn't let me quote your other comment

I know hes not the worst coach.

But you asked a question….

I think Stuart is shockingly overrated, narcissistic and an awful man manager, A complete myth as a functional and effective NRL coach.

It's already been stated that the move back was to get his daughter the support of his family, nothing to do with whether Sydney or Canberra have the best support services. Given that all his family live in Canberra it make sense

Hope you never have a sick family member to use as an "excuse"

The biggest slur you can use against Stuart's abilities is he never leaves a club/team in a better position than when he arrived. Some of them have been left in a shambles. And I don't think his SOO stint was a particular success.

That's because he's not a coach.

Its a decision that is unsavoury to most I imagine, but if I was honest with myself, I couldnt blame him and would probably do the same thing.

Afterall…people do this sort of thing everyday in their careers, it just not played out in the media for everyone to read about
