RoarFEED (iPhone/iPod App) Development Thread

Looks pretty awesome Kul.

Will the forum be active through the app, or will it divert to through Safari?

I'm happy to volunteer for the beta testing.

Still working on which road to go down.
Fully integrating the forum-proper into the app is un-realistic goal at the moment. I don't think there is an app in the world that can do that.

Our options are to just launch a smartphone-friendly version of the forum within a safari browser OR use a new system that parses the forum into a simpler interface still within safari.

Depending on the uptake of the initial release I'll have a stab at integrating the forum into the app itself, but that would be a project that would take a good year to finish.

hooks are in place to build an app for other OS's.
The thing is, have a look at this table:

Australian OS market share:
Symbian (Nokia, Samsung) 45.2%
Mac OS (Apple) 40.3%
BlackBerry OS (RIM) 8.9%
Windows Mobile (Samsung, HTC, Palm) 3.4%
Android (HTC, Motorola) 2.1%

bearing in mind that Symbian includes all those low-res Nokia 5110's. Android might be the next one to look at. Windows Mobile can keep dreaming.

I'll volunteer.

I use tapatalk to access other forums so it will be a good to compare with.

Not Fair (Insert sulk here)

In time I think so… We are cautious releasing any access to the new build as we have not yet tested the build for security holes. If anyone exploits something, they could take control of the site... This we do not want hahah

Do you have a time frame on when it will go live. Looking forward to it.

The app is constructed to work ONLY with the upcoming version of the website. A release date is still unknown and committing to anything would only cause disappointment. It WILL be ready before the Round 1 and we are obviously going to do our absolute best to see it live before the trials.

Hey Kul…

Riddle me this...What do you call a line that is undivided?

Nice work Kull… I'll back ya in for an android version. I'm surprised they have such small share of the Aust. market. From what I understood they have a bigger share than apple world wide... but maybe I am wrong.

Happy to test any platform - I review mobile phones for a living . I would suggest Android as the next platform to roll out, after iOS. It will eventually be the most popular. The others (Windows Phone 7/BlackBerry) not worth it.
