Robbie and Benji wanting to play on to 2020!!!!

At some stage reality has to be confronted and the reality is neither should be running around in the NRL next year. They've given tremendous service to the club but with where the club needs to go and how Maguire gets us there, doesn't include Benji and Robbie in a playing capacity beyond this season.
 
At the right money which reflects their givi g to the club of time and influence, then I'm very happy to have these tigers legends at the club
 
I have a signed Tigers 2009 jersey with photos of four of my favourite players at the time inside the frame: Benji, Robbie, Taniela Tuiaki and Gareth Ellis. However that was 10 years ago. We need new blood. Retire boys and receive the honours that will be yours forever.
 
I don’t think Marshall has been traveling that bad this year. Another year for him at 150k give or take wouldn’t be the worst idea. Farah has to step aside. It’s time the club rides or dies with Liddle. No more reserve grade or coming off the bench. It’s time to see what he’s got.
 
if anyone thinks we will find players who will provide better value for the amount they are paid they are crazy. We havent had a bad game where Benji has played 80 minutes all year and Robbie has been one of the better hookers in the comp. Are they older yes but we have far bigger problems then our hooker and 5/8 and if we can get thm both for a couple of hundred grand each then we would be crazy not to keep them on

There are no ifs about the 200k range. We would not pay any more, and if they don’t want to accept that amount then good luck to them.
 
With our Salary cap problems I would say yes as long as they are performing as they will be on cheap money and would help in recruiting.
 
@GNR4LIFE That is around the mark they are on this year, so I don't think they would be looking for more. I'm fine with them staying on at those salaries. If you watch the games Benji has played it is obvious he is the leader on the field and the high respect that his team mates hold for him.
 
If the reports of Mannah playing on in 2020 are true, and Robbie and Benji do the same, it's becoming clearer that Madge is prepared to cover some freight on Packer, Reynolds and whoever else to get them off the books.

The value these guys provide vs the dollars they are on, covers the shortfall on any players we release.

Smart move in my opinion.

The way I've understood it is this:

Total cap is $9.6 million. These 3 guys wouldn't take up more than $500k - $600k in total and they will play first grade.

That leaves $9 million for 27 players.
4 players will be development players at $105,000 minimum wage - $420,000.

Now we're at $8.58 million for 23 players.

Gets us out of a fair bit of strife.

I agree with Marshall as a back up. He is a high quality player to be able to call on if injuries strike, just not sure he can do it week after week. I guess it all depends on whether we can move on Reynolds AND sign a decent 6 (both of which seem extremely unlikely).

Not sold on Liddle but Farah should retire. Body can't hold up to the pressure of NRL footy every week.
 
@felix You are forgetting about the fact the club is only allowed a 30 player CAP space. Signing these two pedestrian pensioners would mean talented young up and comers would miss a space in the CAP. Honestly , Wests Tigers are known throughout the NRL for their massive CAP botch ups and signing these two again will make Wests Tigers an even bigger laughing stock.

Actually, I left off a few things now you mention it.

* Cap penalty ($370K?)
* Lawrence long service?
* Cap increase to $9.8 Million in 2020

Does the relief we get for Lawrence + the increase in cap offset the penalty?
 
It is very simple for me in regards to this decision

We don't have to worry about any other club pinching them

So to put it simply if we can find an upgrade on either of them at the right price we bid them farewell and thank them for their service

We aren't a good will charity...professional football club
 
@jadtiger I am glad I am not the only one that realised long ago that the board of our club is the main issue why this organisation just rots on the vine . Find it interesting that when Ms Go was there the leaking had stopped move forward the Media seem to know everything that is happening funny about that !
 
There is so much I could say but it's all been said.
These two need to give it up. To think they are running around on our 15th anniversary of our premiership is just laughable.

15 years ago......... Fifteen!!!!. That's 20% of my lifetime on this planet if I live to 75.
 
Them wanting to play on isn't the problem. The fact that there aren't other players pushing for their spots is the bigger problem.
 
@avocadoontoast I am starting to get over the not sold on Liddle comments ... firstly let the guy prove himself give him a shot . I think the situation stinks for the kid .. if I was advising him he would be looking to move on .. let’s face it the legend will be here for a couple more seasons by the look of it .
