Robbie and Benji wanting to play on to 2020!!!!

Benji has been awful this year. We can't keep wasting squad positions on players who offer so little and are only getting worse. And he won't play ISP either so won't stay match fit. No other club would even consider these 2 guys, even if they were club legends at those clubs.

Benji and Robbie are good cheap coverage can play a role in the team. Both deserve squad spots on form. Liddle hasn’t shown much and Reynolds is always injured. You won’t get better depth for 170k contracts.

That said we need to move on and give players opportunities. The stature of these two means they have leave the team for another to make the position their own.

It’s a tricky scenario as they will play for a packet of chips and a VB.

I don't think Marshall has been awful. He hasn't been dynamic but he's playing better than someone on $200k a year.

Neither of these players qualify for the long serving player allowance, they have been here 2 years.

In regards to getting former origin and test players for under 200k, try ringing Phil Duke or Nathan Cayless and see if they want a contract. Their standard currently is only slightly lower than what these 2 are putting out. If you want Farah's footy knowledge he can perform a role similar to Allan Langer and run the water, though based on this year he may struggle to keep up.

I would rather a couple of youngsters on minimum NRL contracts as backup players. If they perform when given an opportunity lock them in, if not move on.

If we can't find anything better for the future than these two, we are in real trouble & need to build our scouting network.

I had hoped both would retire 30 june giving WT opportunity to promote /recruit from within. E.g. Liddle and Reynolds fit and ready to go but that doesn't seem to have happened for whatever reasons.

@Newtown
No I am well aware of the 30 player allocation. As it stands we've only got 29 players this year anyway - including Farah and Marshall, and no money.

I haven't seen any evidence of young up-and-comers who could do the job that (especially Benji) has performed this season - Tyson Gamble has hardly excelled in the Canterbury Cup since Drinkwater left - leaving us with the very real possibility of Josh Reynolds being the first-choice 5/8 for the next two years. If that is to be the case, Benji is almost certainly required as someone who can fill in during the inevitable weeks that Reynolds is unavailable.

If Gamble is seen as the future 5/8, I think he should be playing at centre in the NRL side to get some experience in the big show without the pressure of a halves position, similar to Daley or Fittler as they learnt their trades - shifting Masters to the second row (too slow as a centre) and Lawrence to the bench.

Now, if anyone wants to get all Sheenius up in here, I think Brooks should move to hooker and we look for a halfback - maybe the fellow stuck behind Nikorima at the Warriors. However that is a tale for another day.

Yeah not sure about Robbie and Benji staying on an extra year. To be honest, I would also include Lawrence as well, I think all their best days are well and truly behind them.

I hate everything about these two sticking around. They're thinking of themselves. Youd think "club legends" would stand aside and do everything possible to get the squad moving forward for the future. The argument that they're the best we've got is self destructive in the extreme. Nobody gains experience through not being allowed to gain experience.

Robbie said he's leaning towards retiring at this point

u can see it

Liddle is the bomb

Benji has played 6 full games this year and we have won 4, lost to Storm in last minute and did well against Souths.

When Benji hasnt played or went off half way through 2 wins and lots of losses

I honestly would not hesitate giving Benji another year. He’s a steal at 150-200K. Farah I think will be surplus to requirements if Liddle builds on how he played tonight.

I would be ok if Benji plays another year.

Reynolds needs to play the rest of the year injury free to even be considered a chance next year otherwise we are stuffed

Robbie is playing his heart out but the pace is getting to him, we do need another hooker before saying retire otherwise like Benji we are stuffed. Liddle doesn’t have 80mins week to week in him yet.
