Robbie Farah staying at Tigers as contract stand-off comes to an end

STAR hooker Robbie Farah will officially play out his NRL career at Wests Tigers.

The stunning development will be formally announced by Wests Tigers management in the next 24 to 48 hours.

The Daily Telegraph can reveal the club will issue a media statement confirming Farah will now fulfill the final two years of his contract at Concord.

The cease fire ends an ugly three-month standoff between Farah and the club.

The Tigers initially told the star hooker he was free to negotiate with rival NRL clubs.

The saga has threatened to rip the Tigers apart and made the club a laughing stock.

But the revelation that Farah will stay will delight fans and members.

Wests Tigers will now pay Farah his $1.9 million contract money for seasons 2016 and 2017.

The Daily Telegraph understands Wests Tigers will also apologise to fans and members for their treatment during the Farah drama.

There won’t be any official apology to Farah.

Wests Tigers chief executive Justin Pascoe was contacted on Monday night by The Daily Telegraph but declied to comment.

Farah asked for a release to join another club only last week.

Any interest the Sydney Roosters had in Farah subsided though with relevations incumbent hooker and co-captain Jake Friend was unsettled at the club’s approach to Farah.

Pascoe has worked overtime in the past month to rectify the differences between the club and Farah. It was a saga Pascoe inherited — not initiated.

Farah will now have to battle away to win his place in Wests Tigers team to start next season. After earlier telling Farah he would play reserve grade next season, the Tigers bought Manly hooker Matt Ballin last month.

It remains to be seen how Farah’s retention will affect head coach Jason Taylor.

Taylor and Farah have been at loggerheads since the coach told his then captain to move on from the embattled club.

The pair will simply be forced to tolerate one another.

Farah, 31, will now end his successful career at Wests Tigers as a one-club NRL legend.

At 33, when his contract expires, Farah will either retire or play a final season in England’s Super League.

Farah wanted to remain in the NRL at least next season to have one final crack at playing State of Origin for NSW.

Throughout the entire drama, Blues coach Laurie Daley stood staunchly beside Farah.

The Farah-Tigers situation split the club, some players almost being pushed to support either Farah or Taylor.

Fraha stood down as captain last month. It would appear Wests Tigers can now finally move forward, leaving the entire Farah controversy for the history books.

Thank bloody goodness we can all move on now. The whole case was handled appallingly by all involved but it feels good knowing we don't need to see a headline in the media about it everyday!

Is that an acknowledgment that you got it wrong?

Your right on one thing. I shouldn't have included the last two questions together
Like you I do believe that that was the most likely reason that reddy was dumped, although I never saw that stated that plainly . It just strengthens what I said
They did acknowledge it , and they refuted the one about the new playing contract.
So why wouldn't they refute the well publicised story about the money deferred if
It wasn't true.
It doesn't make sense

It's much more important in the big picture than a journo's wrong assumptions
Until the club denies that they owed them extra money, I think I will believe the first hand quotes from the players involved , rather than some theories picked out of the air with no backup of facts whatsoever

Because Clubs..any Club do not discuss player contracts in the media…it is private and confidential between player and Club....it is why when Salaries are discussed it is prefaced with...The Daily Telegraph can reveal or this column understands or a source close to the Club or it is believed that or this column is aware....

If you added up the salaries reported in the media when players sign what they are reportedly on every club would be millions over the salary cap....

There is no doubt Farah's contract is backloaded the Club has said as much as to the terms conditions etc they would be between the player and the Club....As for the Benji Marshall comment which all this seems to hinge...I very much doubt they would be sitting around discussing the details of their contracts with each other...

The Club needs to deny nothing...

Pretty much sums up what I said Geo, he'll probably scroll past it though because it doesn't fit the narrative.

This info doesn't just hinge on Marshalls word at all . it was first reported in the first
Week of the Farah story, and has been spoken about many times since. I've never seen anyone one who questioned the fact that he deferred the payments.
So let's get it straight. You are saying that Farah didn't defer payments from his previous contract ????

Well done Mr. Pascoe.

People will disagree Im sure but i think this gives us a real boost.

And well done to those who predicted he would be at Saints in a week or so.

Looks like it is not Farah that is apologising but the club for thier shambolic handling of the matter.

Some might be eating crow on here.

The DT over the years has appeared to have had more interest in sticking the knife in rather than a good news story about us….............this must have some truth about it.

So, basically, we've gone through months of crap for nothing. At least it might actually be over.

So now we have Farah, Ballin and Cherrington.

I suppose Ballin is a swap for Luani? Considering Manly will be paying a lot of his contract we're probably paying him what we were paying Luani. Can't argue that he's a massive upgrade on Luani.

Anyway it'll be good to have Ballin around when Farah is playing Origin.

I hope Farah plays well. I would hate to see what happens if he puts in a few terrible games to start the year.

So Farah is 100% staying? Why on earth did we sign Ballin?
If the muppets at the club had thought this through we could have signed Hiku instead.

If Cherrington ends up leaving due to not getting any game time im going to lose it.

Nice to have a CEO at last.
Pity he wasn't here earlier
I'd hate to be the cat at Taylors place tonight.

Now, that would've been a good signing.

Pascoe is a FOOL playing a fools game …Farah gets rid of another coach and now officially runs the club ,Taylor from today has no control he has been totally undermined ,do not think any other coach worth there salt will ever come to this club until this premadonna is gone . My prediction for the future of this club is RIP!

No snake, Pascoe is fixing the mess Taylor created. The whole situation has been a complete disaster. Finally the club has come to their senses. They are even going to apologise to the members and fans for the way they have handled this.

If you don't like it, go and support some other club.

Thank god this garbage has finally come to an end.

Lets hope its true but i dont trust the source of the story.I think the vast majority of supporters want a working amicable solution to what has been a total disaster.

If the club are happy to play second fiddle to Robbie's desire to lose another origin series, then they truly are idiots.
