I am glad we are not going to market on a hooker, I have said in another thread Liddle and Simpkin can cover the spot.
Madge must view Simpkin as our long term hooker as he took ages to get Liddle re- signed.

I doubt we'll Simpkin in first grade till at least 2021.

Jumping the gun a bit early there Cultured B, have a little faith in Madge his definitely not the type of Coach that would ruin the confidence of a young player by throwing him to the wolves to early unless Simpkin’s proves other wise...Fingers crossed for us Simpkin’s does.

If it's just him and Liddle, it's a very good chance he'll see NRL in 2020.

I think you’ll find Madge might use a combination of Liddle (main hooker) and if needed Mbye as a back-up.

Shut up teddy. Robbie is an example of someone that was committed to the club and willing to sacrifice.

You are a proven dirtbag who was willing to put their own financial gain ahead of anything. You might have twice the skill set of Farah , but don’t have 1 % of the loyalty

Well said!

What I don't get is how he can feel good winning a premiership by jumping on a bandwagon. Robbie 100% earned everything he got. Tedesco can't say the same.

Maybe, but only if Jake leaves.

I like it. Have watched plenty of highlights and looked at some games of Simpkin. He is a great running hooker with excellent vision and passing. Strong and slight frame but he looks the goods. I wouldn’t want to be getting injured if I were Liddle. He’s two off seasons away but has more skill and vision than Liddle at a young age.

You are probably right, but it wouldn't surprise me to see Simpkin excel in the lower grades and play next year

Liddle and Simpkins are enough.

If both were injured or not immediately up to it we have Mybe and even Brooks who you could throw in. This would open it for Reynolds if he is still with us

Roosters were always Teddy's team. A Roosters fan all his life and couldn't get a start anywhere else as a youngster and came up through SG ball Balmain.

He is just living his dream. Have to respect that.

Yeah sorry. I just looked for the article and read that.
He tried out at roosters and didn't get taken on.

@The_Patriot I always thought Brooks would make a great hooker, with his shape and recent defensive form however, unless we have a 7 better than Brooks you would never move him.

Mbye yes, he is yet to cement any position at the tigers and is looking and being used more and more like a utility by Madge as the season roles on.

Of course not, that would have meant having to develop him. Why do that when you can just buy the finished product later?

Im only talking as a back up if needed. That said i dont think he would go any better or any worse at hooker compared to half.

Benji and Reynolds in the half and Brooks at 9 if Liddle was injured would work for me.

@The_Patriot fair enough.

Do you think the Joey comparisons would be made again if that happened, like Joey was picked as a 9 for origin.

Would have cook like abilities with his pace of the mark. I’ve often why he hasn’t taken a shot out of dummy half on the back of break. maybe he has and I don’t recall.

@TCL

I agree he is very Cook like but in saying that you need forwards to bend the line, get the advantage and fast play the balls for someone like Brooks to take advantage.

Issue for a half at hooker is when a break happens there natural trained instinct is to spread the ball and think his ability to run from dummy half would take a while to mature

@Mighty_Tiger because most halves now days don’t play what’s in front of them.

There is often as much space around the play off the ball after break than there is out wide. In fact often players have to contend with opposition players retreating when attempting to spread the ball out wide which can lead to passes in front or behind the intended recipient. Play it up the middle and you may tempt an offside player to make a tackle which is a professional foul and a sin bin. Resulting play should see 13 on 12 with good field position.

We need 3 hookers in the squad. I’d look at Isaac Luke as the backup. He kicks goals at a high clip, played under Madge and a good locker room guy. Would provide some leadership for the young hookers. Not sure if he’s want to do that but it would be ideal.
