Robert Lui charged with assaulting girlfriend

Maybe there is another story altogether
Why drop the charges again ???
I'll leave it to your imagination ….......

My imagination is not as good as yours. What are you suggesting?

I'm just thinking out aloud here
But some people need to be the centre of the universe no matter what the consequences are to themselves and others around them
If he has done what has been alledged to have done the club should tear his contract up don't get me wrong
But it just seems strange The timing ,the talk of dropping the charges again everything
Does anyone feel the same ???

yep.

The common factor is obviously alcohol etc. Mad Monday and bad decisions go hand in hand.

Police often face domestic abuse situations where the victim refuses to cooperate. Its not unusual to repeat the same scenario multiple times.

People need to stop making assumptions and speculating on this matter now that it is before the courts. Otherwise this thread will close.

The Police FACTS regarding what allegedly happened will more than likely be put before the Court early next month, events should be clearer then.

Yeah,
Heaven forbid anyone read between the lines, draw on your own worldly life experiences and workout there's no leave passes issued by she who must be obeyed and even when one is there's hell to pay when shore leave expires
Provocation is mitigation even when it it does not excuse xo

Touche, good sir.

I think the conspiracy theories around the dropping of the charges being an elborate plan for some ulterior motive are far fetched. It is extremely common for spouses to drop charges or persist to assist police in cases of domestic violence.
As for nothing happening at all perhaps Santa Claus and the easter bunny had a fist fight which prompted neighbours to call and simultanously Ms Backo was stung on the face by a number of bees, this explains the reported racket and screaming that prompted the police to react, and the reported swelling to the face which has been widely reported.

this is getting boring whether hes a women basher or shes a fruit loop lets just sack/let him go and move on the tigers don't need this

So there is another twist to this story. Whilst I do not believe everything I read in the telegraph, today they report that Ms Backo was in the stands where Lui was playing on the weekend. Mmmm….

Me thinks you may be the one in the twist mate. I read it was SAM Backo.

Yes you are right Danos. Sorry my bad. I read the article quickly this morning, just read it again and I was wrong. You were correct. My apologies again.

Tigers set up counselling for Lui and his partner
Chris Barrett
October 5, 2011

THE troubled Wests Tigers halfback Robert Lui and his partner have agreed to begin counselling this week before the 21-year-old appears in court on Friday charged with assault.

Lui was stood down by the Tigers a fortnight ago after police charged him with assaulting his girlfriend, Taleah Rae Backo.

He is due to face Burwood Local Court on Friday and his future at the club is likely to rest on the outcome.

However, the Tigers have made an effort to assist Lui and his partner since the matter arose by offering counselling.

The Tigers chief, Stephen Humphreys, said: ''We … couldn't force them to do it but we thought it was in their best interests.''

Lui, who has been staying with family in Brisbane, was charged last year with nine offences relating to the alleged assault of Backo, but was cleared in April.

After the latest charge the club met with sponsors in an attempt to alleviate concern. Humphreys has warned against prejudging Lui.

The Tigers have also dismissed any interest in Daniel Mortimer, the Parramatta halfback who was told by the Eels he was not required for 2012 despite being on contract for the next two years.

Mortimer would be a potential replacement for Lui if he was sacked but Humphreys said there would be no approach about the 22-year-old. He also emphatically ruled out any interest in the discarded Sydney Roosters playmaker Todd Carney.

Meanwhile, the Warriors rookie sensation Shaun Johnson and teammate Kevin Locke - who were instrumental in their side's run to the NRL grand final - were included in a 23-man New Zealand squad for the Four Nations that includes six uncapped players.

Good to hear, I don't think either would offer much.
