I agree. Many people I think are jumping the gun just a bit. Wait for a result and see what happens then. Everyone should respect the most basic of rights, innocent until proven guilty.
Just sit tight and let things play out.

Wests Tigers footballer Robert Lui has been ordered not to see his girlfriend after being accused of assaulting her.

The 21-year-old NRL halfback was backed by his club during a brief appearance in Burwood Local Court on Friday.

He was accompanied by about five supporters, including Wests Tigers chief executive Stephen Humphreys.

Lui was stood down by the NRL club last month following his arrest at his home in Sydney's west after the team's "Mad Monday" celebrations, following its semi-final defeat by the Warriors.

Police detained the footballer after being called to the North Strathfield premises and finding his partner, Taleah Rae Backo, with a swollen face.

Lui was charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm and granted bail.

Mr Humphreys said the club has offered the pair counselling, which both had agreed to, although Ms Backo is currently living interstate.

He said the AVO prevented contact between Lui and Ms Backo without prior agreement through legal representatives.

A child was added to the order during the hearing.

Mr Humphreys said outside court it wasn't "an ideal situation" for the club.

"But these things happen," he said outside.

"The matter is in court now and we will let that flow through and make a determination when all the facts are there.

"From a Wests Tigers point of view we will continue to monitor the league situation and make a comment when it is appropriate."

The matter will return to the same court on October 27.

Yes that's all fine, but if u want to suddenly raise the righteous bar of morality, why allow the subject to kick start in this forum at all? It's just absurd to let the thing run for weeks and then proclaim 'none of us are in a position etc…...'

You'd be better served having a moratorium on the matter until there's a resolution in the local/district court, rather than getting all paternal about someone's comments

There's nothing wrong with threads such as this as long as they abide within forum rules. My comment which you have quoted merely reflects my own personal view of the matter, and that is essentially that the club knows best and it's not for me, or anyone else to decide how they should deal with the matter. People can choose to disagree if they wish, but the club has already stood Lui down from training with the main squad as well as non-attendance of formal events so it's not like they are sitting on their haunches.

If that's true, I honestly wouldn't want to see him playing for the Tigers again.

Now that this is on record I feel comfortable saying I won't pay a cent towards the club while he is on the books, nor attend a game. Even if he is found not guilty the same "allegations" two years running show me he is trouble. Its not like he ever denied the previous assault, he got off on "mitigating circumstances".

Anyone (out of us fans) concerned with the football side of things given these events should also approach Wests Tigers for counselling. Football is a game, domestic abuse is not. There are some people who make excuses and bold claims about "circumstances" around these events. The context is irrelevant, absolutely and unequivocally. Fire him.

If this is what happened, it is truly unforgivable! I feel sick!
