Robert Lui Incident/Contract Thread

Great. After a very good season for the club and a solid end to the season for Lui, this happens. :brick:

i hope this is just a bit more steam then substance otherwise given the way the tigers like no off field nonsense i would hate to think we might loose this young talent!

Bloody drinking! Cause of too many problems!

Sorry but there should be a zero tolerance policy towards any violence towards women from its players.

If this is proven than the club should put him in to counselling along with his partner if that is viable and than out the door he goes

Should be dealt with the same way as Daine Laurie.

Could be an easy way to solve the #7 battle between himself and Moltzen.

Such an unfortunate thing to happen after an incredible year for him.

not a good start to the offseason but in my eyes he is innocent until proven guilty. i dont believe anything that comes from the telecrap. i hope he is innocent. i think he has alot of potential in the game. we would also need to look for another halfback for depth.

Ive met him on several occassions and he always seemed like such a nice bloke.

At the fan day he was just about the only player to actually approach the fans without waiting for them to come to him. And he was always more than happy to talk to people.

I agree with what the club spokesperson said about it being out of character.

I agree, it could be a very hard, but valuable lesson.
.
would not be suprised if in future the NRL have a policy written into players contracts dealing with this type of incident.

Out the door? No thanks.

He is what, 20 years old? There are far less drastic yet more beneficial avenues the club can take to ensure Lui has learnt his lesson.

Agree 100%. But if he ends up being sacked by the Tigers I have this terrible thought in my head of him disappearing for a year or so and then being signed by another club when "all has been forgiven", just like Greg Bird.

Assaulting your pregnant girlfriend…what less drastic avenue would you suggest?

There was no one more depressed than him when the game ended. He just had the best game of his career and then this happened. He clearly looked a lot lot depressed after the game!

Hopefully, it's not that much of a deal. When they say assaulted, I have no idea what they mean. It can be very bad or very good.

I was thinking maybe this thread should be closed until the legal process has run it's course, as was the case with Laurie's assault charge.

"All was Forgiven" with Greg Bird, because he got off in court, therefore he was not guilty (although not proven innocent). I think that is the lesson to learn here for the Tigers. Need to bide our time until proven guilty or otherwise but at the same time offer support both verbal and otherwise to the girl.

No good can come from this.

As smeg already suggested, counselling is one of them - help him understand why he did it, does he think it is ok, why he shouldn't do it, what will he do to make sure he doesn't do it again. As I said he is young, perhaps poorly educated and perhaps poorly guided (who knows?).

Another issue is, we don't even know what he did. After all, the Greg Bird incident was an 'accident'…

And before people start questioning my morals - I have not at any stage suggested that what he has been charged with is anything but completely unacceptable and sickening.

Regardless, I think we should wait for a few more facts before we start calling for heads.

_Edit: if it is in fact serious, then obviously my opinion on this matter would change._

In my post I only called for action if it was indeed a proven allegation.

Of course there is a process that must be followed.

Again it shows the importance of everyone knowing their limits in regards to alcohol. Even if found to have not acted in a criminal manner it shows how dangerous putting yourself in a drunken situation can prove. Despite the spotlight that will be focussed on Rob he is in a decent position as far as legal representation and support systems. The average person is not so lucky

The matter is before the courts….The club has issued a statement....I suggest we leave the accusations and speculation out of it.....

The Forum does not wish to lock the thread but ask that discussions to be kept to facts not speculation..

Cheers..
