Robert Lui Incident/Contract Thread

"Assault" in this case could refer to a slap across the face or could refer to something more. Either way the club must deal with it the way they feel necessary. I guess we will have to see how this pans out and what are the implications for robert, his girlfriend, the baby, the club and its fans.

I hope no harm has come to the unborn child and this issue can be sorted out thoroughly and effectively.

From the Sydney Morning Herals

"The man has been charged with nine offences."

The offences include two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, three of common assault, one of malicious damage, one of choke with intent to commit an indictable offence, one of detain for advantage and one of aggravated robbery.

Wests Tigers halfback Robert Lui has been charged with nine offences, including assaulting his pregnant girlfriend.

Lui, 20, appeared in Burwood Local Court today and was granted bail, which he has yet to post.

"Burwood police have arrested a 20-year-old man in relation to allegations of a domestic violence-related assault on the weekend," a police statement read.

"The incident is alleged to have occurred in the early hours of Sunday morning at an address in Abbotsford.

"A woman suffered facial injuries.

"The matter was reported to police later that day.

Lui recently put his good late-season form down to becoming a father for the first time.

He played a starring role in the Tigers' run to third place on the NRL ladder before they bowed out 13-12 to St George Illawarra in Saturday night's preliminary final.

The incident comes at the worst possible time for the league as it prepares for this Sunday's grand final between the Dragons and the Sydney Roosters.

At this stage I would neither condemn or condone Lui without knowing the facts. He's saying he'll be contesting the charges and at this stage has to be considered innocent. I'm happy with the way WT management are handling things at this stage.

I will say one thing. The quickest way to go from a ordinary first grader to a "star" is by getting charged with something. It's never "Promising NRL player charged", without fail it's "NRL star charged…"

Yeh I just read that. It's going to be hard for Lui to fight this if true. Bad news for the club after an awesome season, on and off the field

Looks like we may never see young Rob play for the Tigers again.. very dissapointing.. He has so much potential and looks as though hes thrown it away..

Ch 10 said he was facing 9 charges including some dating back to May. Also said he held his girlfriend in their apartment "for advantage" and had choked her.

Doesn't look good for Lui…

What a disappointing way to end the season. People were talking about him finally being the great 7 and … ahh screw it I'm not posting.

Lucky we have an adequate replacement in moltzen, innocent till proven guilty thow but if he is guilty and charged i hope the club punts him! What a shame thow as the club have put so much time into him and he is one of our more talented juniors.

Agree macdougall what a crap way to end the seaon! After how far tigers have come and all they have done off the field to show what a great club they have and this is what will be remembered for in 2010\. Not good for lui, i hope its not what it sounds like but if it is even half as bad as it does sound then we have to let him go. Hope the gf and child are okay.

See what happens…sad day for tigers
