And the Roosters guy has only been in charge of recruitment for the Roosters women's team? Is that right? Surely that's not a job...

In charge of recruitment for the Roosters women's team and he lands a top job at Wests Tigers. An insult to the club.

Read the story!!!!

@beachtiger yeh I don’t think you understand what a recruitment officer does. They have very little involvement with retention and, generally, don’t even have much involvement with recruitment of established players.

Our junior pathways was excellent under McDonnell and has gone to hell since he left. I am one who is glad he is coming back.

After reading so many of these posts I now realise that the insults were not related to the Roosters talent spotter but from some Tiger supporters against McDonnell.

Not in the past 2 years it hasn't...they pretty much picked the eye's as far as development players go..

McDonnell is a good recruiter but he was very lucky at times with the likes of Teddy Woods, Fifita, Brooks, Moses, Nofo, Simona etc fell in his lap..there was no need to go out and source these kids..it just the quality of players certainly from the Wests Jnr leagues have not been there the last few years as evidenced with there performance at Matts and Ball level....those with potential have still been retained to Flegg level..

You will see a lot of Polynesian players come through the Flegg side now McDonnell is back..

@Tiger_Steve

I don’t think there’s one clear reason why to be honest but surely you can’t be suggesting that’s only because of McDonnell??

No not suggesting that. But I do believe our retention has been poor and he was part of that process

Don’t disagree at all about our retention it has been poor but I think you’ll find he was more involved in the front end more so than the retention.

My fear these days with our recruitment is that quality players don’t seem to want to come here.

Can’t disagree with that. Why??? Players go to knights (regional and 3 spoons) and bulldogs (basketcase). Why are we so on the nose??? I honestly don’t get it

Me neither! Now we even have a great, Premiership winning coach, who is supposedly able to attract good players, but still some of the players we're reported to be chasing would rather go elsewhere, even if it's prematurely to the ESL! I guess money talks louder than anything else.

Yeah I don’t think you have read my posts completely because that’s what I said in the first place, suggest you have another read.

Yeah fair point we have done pretty well recently.

In terms of the Polynesian’s coming through I think that will become more prevalent in all teams to be honest.

I thought it was already prevalent. A lot of teams rosters would be almost 50% Polynesian.

It's a shame that with all that ability in the juniors leagues it's accounted for nowt in first grade.

Still feel like we're looking backward by bringing him back.

5 of 18 in the Flegg side named this week are Polynesian ...

Whomever was in charge of retention when Papenhuyzen left ought to be held accountable. One thing I am confident about is that he would still be at the club of Tim Sheen's had bey in charge. He could identify and nurture talent.

@Cultured_Bogan Good. Would that be Egan

Head of Football. They're in charge of all football operations. Ultimately the responsibility would fall at his feet for losing the likes of Teddy, Woods, Moses, Pappy and whomever else walked under his stewardship.

A bit simplistic to blame the CEO of the club. He's not involved in the day to day football operations like the coach and head of football would be.

N.B. This is just my opinion of course, I know nothing from inside the club to suggest this is the case.

We are a bit under the NRL average then at this stage.
