Roosters talent spotter takes over as Wests Tigers head of football

Having worked with Warren McDonnell I can tell you he is an absolute top bloke with a great footy mind.

His role before leaving was junior pathways and development and considering the juniors we had during his tenure I would suggest he was very good at his job. Unfortunately there are a lot of misconstrued opinions of him that are not based on fact.

Not sure how opinions are not based on fact.

This does not surprise me at all actually ...just proves what I have been on about is in fact a reality and true . McDonnell Oh dear another failure from the past they just can’t help themselves ! Once Ms Go left the good old boys club has been reinstated 😂!

So true Snake, Backdoor and Blocker must be rubbing their hands.

Of course not everything on a supporters forum is fact!!!!! I’m really glad to hear he’s a great bloke. One question: why then have we been so crap on the field for the past decade?

@Tiger_Steve

I don’t think there’s one clear reason why to be honest but surely you can’t be suggesting that’s only because of McDonnell??

No not suggesting that. But I do believe our retention has been poor and he was part of that process

And because of this his return does not fill me with confidence. But hey - I really hope I’m wrong. I hope he and the team recruit/retain an awesome squad

Don’t disagree at all about our retention it has been poor but I think you’ll find he was more involved in the front end more so than the retention.

My fear these days with our recruitment is that quality players don’t seem to want to come here.

Can’t disagree with that. Why??? Players go to knights (regional and 3 spoons) and bulldogs (basketcase). Why are we so on the nose??? I honestly don’t get it

@willow Not Exactly...….. My understanding of the Tedesco balls up at the Dogs had very little to do with McDonnell.

My understanding is and was Tedesco, Moses and Woods were offered to the Dogs as a package, Hasler said no to Moses. Deal off.

Meanwhile put over at Bondi Junction Minichiello who was in charge of recruitment for that week was promising Tedesco rivers of gold.

End of story.

I'm talking of events well before that happened.

I get the feeling players don’t see us as a club that will see them win a title, we don’t have great facilities and have been really unstable.

Honestly, without the black, gold and white glasses on, if you had a promising son coming through or you were managing a quality player and had a few choices would our club be on top of your list?

Great question. My sons and I have discussed this often . Answer: no I’d be recommending Rorters, Storm. But knights and bulldogs are in the same situation and yet they still recruit well

@Tiger_Steve We have been in this situation for a lot longer, pretty much our entire existence!

It's 100% what it is, ask yourself, do you see the Knights or the Dogs staying in this situation for long? then ask yourself the same question about us?

It’s just a game of footbal.

Likewise my heart would say Tigers but for opportunity it would be elsewhere.

Newcastle fell into a hole under Tinkler and through that period and the hangover of it were a basket case however now under private ownership of a huge club I think their future looks really bright.

I think bulldogs are in a similar position post Des, they are still a wealthy club with a strong history and will no doubt rise again.

So I think whilst those two clubs have been similar to us their “perceived” future still looks a lot brighter than ours. I think Madge is definitely a step in the right direction and if they can get the COE happening then we may finally start to see our club as a desirable place to join and then we won’t have to pay overs for players.

@beachtiger

Facilities facilities, I want to play for storm, roosters Cronulla blah blah blah... we are a nrl team and we are here to stay. There’s plenty of opportunities for players to take should they choose to come here.

Players can make a name for themselves with us and we are a huge brand we have enough support for the right team to do well.

Great points. Matterson a prime example. But not many others seem to agree at the moment
