I don't know if I would be playing him at 6, he seems like a player that doesn't play a structured sort of game. I would probably have to play him at 1 and play Mbye at 6 for round 1.

Given that Mbye has spent the offseason training at 1, I wouldn't change that now. Laurie offers far more than Madden and his footwork in the front line caused problems today.

Madden is a long way from 1st grade, and I do take your point about Mbye spending the offseason at 1. The issue I have is Laurie is very much a play what is in front of you half and is not likely to assist in the organisational aspects of a halves role and I feel Brooks needs someone capable of providing that support.

I thought Laurie was very impressive tonight but feel the safer play is to play him at fullback.

Based on todays Trial there is no way you can throw Madden in there. Im worried about Lauries passing game, plus the fact he is just a small young kid, but if its between him and Madden its an easy decision.

I have not been a Seyfarth fan, but he was good today.

He's only a young fellow and should have room for improvement - looked stronger today than last season which stands to reason.

I have been against the Jackson Hastings idea but based on todays effort (I know I know, just one trial) Madden is a LONG way off.

Short kicking game was ok, the rest...not so much. He might kill it on the training paddock but that won't cut it on the field with the big boys

I think Rd 1 Simpkin will be 14. IMO no way Madden gets a run Rd 1. Having said that Id be making sure he gets a good run next week.

I reckon Hastings would be handy if we could get him for this year. Painfully aware that Reggies hurt last year but if our first choice halves don't fire, if Madden doesn't step up we are cooked

To me , tonight showed that , whilst a lot of these kids have talent , they still have a way to go . There was a clear class drop from the guys mentioned

Madden is a long way from 1st grade.

He lacks deception with his ball playing . It seems really robotic. I’m sure he wouldn’t play like that at training . He just needs to relax.
