Tbh if Best starts to dominate I'd put Bird in the centres.

Benji is putting trust & faith in the guys who have trained & trialed in the centres. It's a huge opportunity for both Faataape & Doeuihi to put their names up in lights for the right seasons against Best & Gagai with Ponga chiming in. No better challenge!

But yes if shit hits the fan & Best is embarrassing Faataape or Doeuihi, you would think Bird will be ready to slot in.

We are literally missing 3 of our starting back 5, and 2 of our starting spine players. Like others have said, only our halves Trump, who is a convicted Rapist and Felon theirs. Will be interesting how much that determines on the field.

As long as we are competitive, a first-round loss will not decide our season. We'll have Api and Bula back next week (Toa too if that helps) against a Parra team that may be missing Moses... Regardless, I'm excited for footy to be back and watching the great Wests Tigers win/lose, rain/shine.

How is Mason better than Staines experience wise. On the other side of the argument - you gotta start somewhere. Mason is on the shorter side. But so was Pistol Pete. Never stopped him. The other other side - if I was Newcastle - punch holes in the backline. We match you in the forwards. And maybe more. Best and Gagai. The good news is Toa will be back soon. Cant wait

Yea i can see that - i guess the club has decided to bring Latu along in reggies and keep pressure on Galvin which is a good thing. I would be worried if i was TDS as i think Hope was the better 9 in the trials.

Hope is 8 years older than TDS to be honest, I’d be ok with 19 year old TDS building up as an 80min hooker in NSW Cup.

Haha. Nice. And you nailed it re. the match-up and luck on the day. But the elephant in the room we're not talking about is if we will draw the ire of the refs again this year.

I personally believe a team makes its own luck with discipline, etc. but there were times last year that baffled me re. the ref's calls against us, especially in comparison to other teams who seemed to do the same thing or worse and yet avoid the penalties or send-offs we endured.

When you have one-eyed Broncos fans saying that the Refs hate us and that they have a vendetta against us it speaks volumes. Here's to 2025 being different... I will also try to keep my own bias in check but where's the fun in that 😉
