LIVE GAME Round 1 vs Knights

Live Game Discussion
The criticism of Galvin reminds me of the criticism of Moses. We lost a great one there.

Lets not do it again 🙂 Give him time.

When the half is quiet and not involved, we call for him to be involved. When he's in everything he can be in, he's doing too much.

Luai was great, but he should have been guiding Galvin.
Laui was missing in action , he was very poor in attack.
But it all comes back to BENJIs coaching, no backline plays , tried to go up the middle all day , and where was the coach’s direction to get it wide , it never changed, so u can say he never sent out instructions about it , because as a coach I would have been on the side line demanding they do what I wan

Agree that things can take time to click.

2 key moments for mine;
drop ball from Mason (we all worried about this)
Anyone else see the forward pass in the build up to the second try?

Also, centres didn’t defend well. Faataape got a bath.
I noticed they swapped centres at half time and put F on Best. Mismatch but either way was always going to be an issue.

i know its only one game but Seyfarth is not the answer in the 2nd row, way too small and ineffective and ofcourse a bad mistake dropping the ball that almost lead to a try, and yet we give him a 3 year extension!!! Off the bench at best

Other than May, all the middles got dominated in the ruck. Fair play to Twal for getting through a lot of work but the slow PTBs absolutely killed any chance of building momentum. It wasn't just Twal, either: Pole was poor, he and Hunt much less impact than hoped, Bird lively but no impact, Seyfarth a couple of nice runs but limited impact, Fainu completely anonymous. Sione Fainu got 15 minutes - what's the point?

Extremely disappointing up front - we had a lot of ball but rarely turned it into attacking pressure because we got battered in the ruck, then when we started making mistakes we were doomed. Forwards mark: D, with an A- for May.

I don't really blame the backs: we gave them nothing to work with in attack and all the points we conceded came from missed tackles across the park. Skelton and Turuva brought it out well enough, Doueihi didn't cost us any more than anyone else, Faataape was as anonymous as ever. Mason is a backup, would be nice to have a better option but he didn't let anyone down - though of course his one error cost us dearly. Backs mark: B- in defence, ungraded in attack.

Luai started well but put too much faith in Galvin on a day where it clearly wasn't working and his kicking game was below par. Galvin won't have a worse game than that in first grade. Halves mark: D, dragged down by an F for Galvin.

Overall, what worries me is that two of the three major problems - missing one on one tackles and running out of steam - were there last year and shouldn't be things that are rusty in round one. Why can't we get properly conditioned? It shouldn't require coaching genius, just an idea of how teams go about building fitness.

The third major problem was the desperately slow ball throughout. It looked like only May had any idea how to get a quick PTB. If we're not running a lot more second phase we simply cannot afford to lose the ruck as badly as that - and, again, that's a straightforward matter of players' individual skill and training, it's not a combinations thing. Coaching mark: D-.

Next week is already looking like must-win territory. One thing this squad has going for it is that it seems to be fairly cohesive and unified. They need something to feel good about, badly.

This result was always going to happen , there was too much talk in the papers past couple of weeks. When that happens sides invariably lose

Well on at least on the scoreboard ….. it turned out way better than what I anticipated.

Just shows you that you just can not go into a season where 1/3 of your roster is either on L plates or just don't cut it.

Same can be said about our inability to fill 3 key areas on our roster (centre, second row and lock) with some quality. Until we do we are well and truly again heading back to the bottom of the pile this season.

Also I just don't GET the fact that whoever is our defence guru can’t teach line speed and how to adjust for brake down turnover in our attack.

I cringe when I watch our play the ball speed.

And don’t get me started about our so called halves combo.

Despite all the fumbling and bumbling, I never could understand how we have one the best attacking weapons in the modern era as a coach, and yet scoring points and try scoring plays are our biggest problem?
Bc he is all about “play what you see” which is why we’re headless chooks

Not even one bloody block play all game

There is no structure in attack
