LIVE GAME Round 16 v Dolphins

Live Game Discussion
You're right that it can be two different things but once we move out of Campbelltown, there won't be any difference between us and other Clubs vying for that catchment.

We can paint it white, black and orange but Dogs will come in trying to paint it blue and white and Penrith will try to paint it black.

The only point of difference we have is we have invested there for so many years in playing games there that we have to continue doing.

Hence, it is an all or nothing because no way we compete with other Clubs when it comes to a catchment area simply because we got no money for that.
Penrith already have the biggest junior nursery they won’t add Campbelltown to it and make it ever harder to get involved with Penrith. Dogs might look at the area for juniors I don’t see them playing at Campbelltown considering they make more money playing at Accor.

I am not sure where the us and them reared its head in my post mate.

I live an hour away from Campbelltown.

Do Manly fans travel an hour to Brookvale? Bulldogs an hour to Accor? Panthers an hour to Pointsbet? The answer is generally no.

I plan the 5 games I go to well in advance so I can make the games I do.

The people of that area do not put the effort in. It isnt an "us vs them". Its fact based on the attendance record.

I have always said I beleive the mcarthur region is our future - the people of the area just dont seem to feel the same. Could have something to do with the fact Wests play out of Lidcombe and not Campbelltown?

Edit: where do wests matts and ball play out of? Genuine question i havent looked it up. Looks like its kirkam oval at Camden- so not even they get to play at campbelltown... 90% of all other teams play at their nrl teams home ground.. we are simply disjointed
Just on your last paragraph, don’t believe 90% of junior reps play at their NRL home grounds. Certainly not Eels, Dogs, Roosters, Souths (and Steelers don’t play at WIN).

I dont blame people for not wanting to go when a loss is on the cards.
I didnt go to the Penrith game for that reason.
But youve provided another reason why people dont go....not an excuse as some claim there are none
As I said earlier in 05, 10 and 11 we would win 75% there...and got fair crowds

We all have reasons
See that’s where I feel there’s a bit of a difference. We can definitely agree the Penrith game at least 99% of the fans wouldn’t have gone given it was an expected loss. Plus being at CommBank some fans refuse to go there. I’m not gonna say that if we played the Dolphins yesterday at LO we 100% would’ve won because we still could’ve easily lost and still play out exactly like it did, not to mention Dolphins are having an incredible season as well. But, I think more fans would have gone because they know at LO we are a different team compared to playing elsewhere. Like I said before we are not unbeatable at LO, but at least majority of the time we compete better compared to Campbelltown or any other home ground.

Very reasonable assesment

You are right, I was lazy and pulled that one out of my ass without checking.

At a quick glance, the following KOE teams generally follow the nrl side around:

- manly
- roosters
- storm
- bulldogs
- knights
- warriors
- canberra
- panthers

Souths (all grades) play koe and all their remaining grades from Redfern oval, which is reasonable considering homebush is nowhere near their area.

Dragons seemed to follow the nrl team early in the year but dont seem to be during the back half of the season.

Bulldogs play at Belmore (all grades).

It just feels like there is a disconnect between our junior bases (balmain and mcarthur) who then progress to play at lidcombe when they make flegg or KOe, who then progress to play at leichardt, Campbelltown and commbank.

We dont present as a club, but as an NRL team.

Id be perfectly fine with this IF we were guaranteed our juniors in the S/W
However its unfortunately not happening, will never happen...we know what the club is doing and their ideas
The fact the club charges punters $120 to sit near the 20m at LO...yet you can sit on halfway at CSS for $50 and kids free tells me theyre well aware of the situation, are content with it...but are they killing their cash cow with a 7/3 or 8/2 split from 2029?
Wouldnt surprise me as we have idiots running the joint
Appreciate the sensible response to this topic. Agree heavily with the last part.

They didn’t beat us?
What an arrogant statement.
They were missing one of the hottest young halves in the comp, and 4 current SOO players who are all in top form. Despite that, they easily ran 6 tries past us at our home ground.
They certainly beat us.
I think you both make good points. Who knows who would have won, if those calls had gone out way. However, on the overall flow of the game, the Dolphins beat us with the better football, despite taking a while to get on top.

They are a serious outfit.
I pencilled in a win for that game given how many, and the standard of them, they had missing.
We also didn’t roll over and kept throwing punches at them.
It was a good win. Impressive.

I blame the disconnect on HBG, they don’t want us to play as Wests Tigers in Cup and insist on playing majority of their home games at Lidcombe. I could live with being the Magpies if they were willing to commit playing at all our home games before first grade starts at the same ground, but since they don’t/won’t as you said it causes problems.

What is the point of this whinge? The club is locked in.
100%

If were going to have a whinge, why don't we talk about us not showing up at our own home ground against the Dolphins. Ok in fairness we played kinda average-ish and maybe that's the problem.

We did not fold, but this was a winable game and we lost.

for the old balmain fans out there
Pole has the Steve Edmed's about him... good for a dropped ball or two every game
He has, but one or two errors per game aside, he is one of our only forwards who we can guarantee will really bend the line and make good post contract metres with nearly every carry.
I think he is very well suited and certainly makes his best impact starting off the bench and coming on att around the 20 minute mark when the heat has gone out of the game a little.

It's the locals, isn't?

Is there more people living closer to LO than Cambo?

More old Balmain supporters than Wests? (Only joking)

It is a little strange why it doesn't draw the big numbers more regularly, its a good place to watch footy
Honestly, I would rather a nice pub and a few mates you can banter with...

Stadiums are just so damn secure these days, plastic cups, plastic food.

Give me a giant Pub TV with a line through it because someone went to smash it.

Give me a stupid keno screen that no one ever touches and pencils used only by super bored kids who shoudn't be there!

Give me some bar stools and a smashed scooner glass of someone who owes me $50 *

A place that has heart, a place of friends, a place you may die...

Stadiums are missing all that atmosphere.

*truth is I probably owe them or slept with their sister or something. Meh get me another bourbon!

We definitely don’t play as well at Campbelltown as we do at Leichhardt but for a ground that’s supposedly the future we keep losing there. That’s what most fans are upset about. 12k on a 3pm Saturday game is not that great it’s ok at best. They want to make it a home/fortress but they keep losing it won’t be anywhere near that.

Yeah I understand and fair enough, the pub feels like home to a lot of people but going to a live game is a sometimes thing, a special thing thats hard to find elsewhere.

LO and Cambo and are suburban grounds so that have that community feel about it, I love walking through the crowd at LO and feeling the energy

The Gilbert tackle was 'high' in the interpretation of the game today, but I honestly wish more games were played the way today went.

No intent in that- just a head clash. If it went against the Tigers- half of us would be blowing up. In the same breath- the tackle from Seyfarth last week in cover wasn't a 'high' tackle either.

I thought the Ref did pretty good.

Losing Madden & Herbert was unfortunate & a continuation of how unlucky we have been with injury.

I thought Mason played ok in relief at #7, but again- typical of how the season goes, probably the right game to have Latu on the bench.

That's a pretty good team in the Dolphins.

I thought it was Sukkar's best game in 1st grade- ran hard & defended well.

On the flip side- the issue with playing Sione wide is he gets fewer involvements. Scored a couple of tries, but was pretty quiet in a game where we needed more from the guys that got on the field.

That was a tough game against a team that plays 110% regardless of who they put on the field. Thought we did pretty good & the score at the end didn't reflect the quality of the contest.
Yeah I agree. I had no issue with the Madden collision. What is the defender meant to do? That’s footy.

Agree with all your other points too.

Fact is fans aren't stupid they can smell a losing day out at the footy, they had no problem selling out Cambo before the injuries struck and we were flogging teams that's the reality of this sports ground.

The timeslot was a big impediment as well. Full house or close to it if just a few hours later, and almost guaranteed if playing this afternoon instead for mine.

Leichhardt is pretty well inarguably our best option for winning, as is the Macarthur area for continued growth, so both grounds are necessary.

Another reason Sat arvo is probably a bad time for Cambo is families might have their kids playing sport.

Wouldn't matter if we were headed for the finals, winning brings fans from everywhere.
