I mean we came out after a bye and Luai got himself sent to the bin after 3 minutes against the Cowboys. I can remember our marquee player completely shanking a chance for us to reset our season. We made that bet on Doobs once already, and lost.
The excitement of one win must erase people’s memory?
He's not tough enough to be a forward.Yep, as I mentioned earlier he could be a 14 if he was to do some work and be able to play 13 or on an edge in a pinch.
Or run Marky Mark at To'a when you see he only has one arm and stack that side with numbers.I’m not complaining but I do question Robinson’s intelligence. Clear size mismatch between Tupou and Staines. Why would you keep going to the air?
Oh well.
Problem with Douhi has always been the same thing, he played a great game yesterday and he's just as likely to have a really bad one against the Warriors. No consistency. Personally I'd give him a modest 2 or 3 year deal as long as he understands hes a depth signing for our backline.Doueihi was very impressive in his front foot play today. It was so refreshing for this tigers team the way he received the pass at the line and had his team with him. It was a little bit the quality of the play the ball and the strength of the forwards in creating it but it was also just doueihi playing sharp. I've felt for so long we're just too slow, too sideways, too flat footed. Doueihi was really good with that and had his team with him. Luai and Latu seem to try to play that way but they often seem on their own, no one going with them. It was noticeable how well doueihi brought the team with him. It's how we need our halves to play, even if doueihi isn't the one doing it.
I understand the misgivings with doueihi, he seems to double think his plays, like his kick direct to teddy today when he had time and space to make a better kick or take a different option and seemed to get caught up between those options. Similarly his dart to the try line where he knocks on, not quite sharp enough to get there, not sure whether to hold the ball or stretch out. He has a really good kicking game, probably our best, yet he kept kicking it to Tupou who kept setting up strong sets in the second half with dominant runs through our tiring forwards, he had to go the other way.
But he does a lot right. He was a terrible defender last year, unplayable, where this year he is one of our best. He was really good in his play off of and for Latu in that game and his effort is high. I think he can be a half in the NRL. There are a number of teams where he'd be a decent upgrade. I don't think that is here. He probably deserves a chance at an extended period in the halves elsewhere. It's interesting his evolution from a hard running no passing ball hog who couldn't tackle a few years ago to a creative organising player now.
Tbh we were gifted 2 high shot penalties that were pretty soft tbf. Technically they were abit high, but we've all seen worse let go. Was refreshing to have a ref that let the game flow.We won penalty count 6-4
We lost 6 again count 2-5
Hopefully just a burner seeing as he played through.Looked to me.like his wrist or forearm
Have whatever opinion you like, but yesterday he played better than 90% of Luai’s games for us thus far.I said as a 5/8th he makes a good prop. Not the same thing.
I mean if you guys are happy that what he provides is NRL standard as a 5/8th then we are selling ourselves short. He is OK at centre and he can kick a couple of goals.
For mine, and where I think where we need to go, he is a KoE level player. We need better as a 5/8th and as a centre if we are going to be competitive. A great fall back and could be a 14 if he could play 13 as well.
I'm not sure what all of the pain is here. He did some good things, provided one excellent ball for a try (although the work to set it up was done inside him) and he made some really poor choices. I'm not disagreeing that he plyed well, in a team that on a whole did OK. For me, he demonstrated why we need to move him on - too many deficiencies as a half and barely servicable as a centre at NRL level.Have whatever opinion you like, but yesterday he played better than 90% of Luai’s games for us thus far.
No he was better than that. If he wasnt in the top 3 performers, he was 4th.he wasn’t high level today. He was rocks and diamonds.
I said he is playing better and that Luai has struggled with consistency and form in the halves this year.Did you just state that AD is a better bet than Luai at 6? Really?
We were also gifted good field position from penalties and it was great to see the team capitalise and score from them.Tbh we were gifted 2 high shot penalties that were pretty soft tbf. It was refreshing to see some hard and direct running from a half, rather than what Luai provides. Albeit our forwards were demolishing there’s early on which made his job a bit easier. IMO 5/8 has always been his spot. A lot of people seem to forget he was our best player at 6 not that long ago.I'm not sure what all of the pain is here. We got away with a win agaisnt a depleted Roosters. A side made up of a forward pack well beaten by our Magpies in Cup the week prior, and a reasonable backline. If we played in the same manner agaisnst most sides we would have had another L on the ledger. I was not trying to detreact from AD, or the win with my comments post game. It made a statement, on what I saw executed, in relation to ADs ability as an NRL 5/8th.
If we're thinking that he will cut the mustard agaisnt the Wahs next week we will be seriously dissapointed.
It was a good and well deserved win for the lads yesterday - but it doesn't paper over the cracks in our depth chart.
Adam has shown impressive speed this year once through a gap. He also attacks the line at speed forcing the defenders to make a rushed decision. His lateral movements are still wanting a bit and he needs to straighten his attack, but both are also on the improve. His defence has improved considerably....he is currently no.117th in the league for missed tackles with 7 team mates racking up more....thats rare air for him historically.Doueihi is a perfect pickup for Perth. At 500 to 600k, he's a cheap half or a centre/utility on about the right money.
For us, we don't really need that, although he can plug a gap in the halves where, in my opinion, he provides the most value for us because you don't have to rely on guys that are out of their depth. The issue is the money for the return. If he was a bit faster, better defender, he'd be a good 14 with his primary position as lock and fill in at half/centre/fullback when needed. He just falls a bit short in speed and defence to consider the money he wants.
We will definitely need to find a half for 2026 that can make a difference in a game if we get hit by injuries/suspension/origin.
