We like usual get 3 pickups but then let go 5+ others rather than make a squad stronger. Then every year complain about our roster.

We strengthen the halves & backs and weaken the forwards. We focus on starters and neglect depth.

We let go of our better players rather than our weaker ones. Our retention profile sucks & our squad has major flaws in it.

No team outside of us in the last 5 years has lets go of 5+ NRL level players in 12mths (Tupou, Papa, Blore, Stefano, Laurie) to teams above them that start/figure frequently for top 8 sides.

Hard to argue with Olam, but he’s been a key part in a few of our wins. I’m still hopeful.

Luai will need other pieces to be a success no doubt, and I’m prepared to wait and see what our team looks like in 2025 before calling for heads.

I’m certainly not crying over Tupou, Laurie or plasticine man. And Stef is still with us as far as I know.

I’ve bashed the club from pillar to post in the past so I wont tell others not to, but I think people are getting a little hysterical given it’s only July and this year was never going to go any different.

You’re missing the point. Regardless how we rate them, they’re NRL players. They’re playing (most start) with top 6 sides from last and this year. We let them go, we couldn’t keep them fit, we couldn’t get them to perform, but they’re good enough to start for the best teams. We let them go with ease and replaced them with rookies/reggies at best.

We didn’t make our squad stronger in letting them go. Instead we extended Toa, Naden and others whilst brought in a bunch of experiments from union/qld cup.

You started the argument about the is/was regarding squad quality. The reality is just because Luai is coming doesn’t make our squad stronger as such our squad is not was weak.

Selecting / blooding players over others that underperform for me is positive. If he didn’t do this, we would be criticising it. This season is gone and at least Benji is trying something, experimenting and testing combinations.
Fair to have a go at Benji for game plan or structure, but he puts himself on the line with these selections. It’s ballsy. Sends a message too.
