LIVE GAME Round 21 versus Panthers

Live Game Discussion
Got pummeled from a team that is better than us all over the park. Honestly, they are the form team of the whole comp right now.

Effort was there, just couldn’t match them. Long kicking game is a real concern IMO - meant even when we were holding our own physically we were still losing the territory battle.

Tbh, didn’t really learn anything new from todays game. Our edge forwards aren’t up to it, our attack is poor, the players play for each other and the coach. Think Benji should stay for first half of next year.
Agree with your post except for the last sentence.

Agree. Not next week. Maybe last or second lst game. Leichhardt vs cowboys potentially the best opportunity.

But wouldn’t be against just leaving him out rest of the season.

He won’t change anything for us this season.
I don't see any point in not letting a kid spend 7/8 months becoming more of a man, including a full pre-season in the top squad before his first exposure to near NRL level in the opening trial.

Twal needs to run hard and straight. He's one of our typical players in that he folds when the going gets tough. He's massive and yet he runs sideways with twinkle toes.

People blaming the backs, and they were average, but we were strangled as a team. Penrith transition so quickly, everyone is sharp and aware and takes the advantage. So a 20 tap happens instantly, a penalty taken so quickly. They are also relentless about pressuring runners tackle two and three, where we are just off the pace in those tackles and regularly allowed 10 metres and players pushing through the tackle. So that equals dominant field position and then they get attacking kicks in and of course the wingers are going to make errors. As a team, they have to win those contests, and we just never do. Backs aren't doing anything when as a team we're not matching physicality and effort.

We had no plan to beat Penrith today. They were not threatened and were faster, smarter and more physical. Disappointing that we basically seem to try to play Penrith lite. Good coaches may not always win, but you can usually see how they would like to attack and opposition. Like most of our season, we had no obvious plan.

I don't know how to beat Penrith but one thing I noticed is they get three men in on the tackle on the 1st runner, and they look a little thin wide of that area. Surely trying a little short passing near the line between forwards might get something. At least it means they can't just tee up on the first runner like they did all match. Got to try something, right? Our solution seemed to be just keep hitting it up. Like many bad coaches' game plans in our recent history, there seems a complete lack of ambition.

How in the [This word has been automatically removed] did they give that Tago try? I was at the ground and could barely see the screen but it looked like he missed it completely … forearm?

The entire Penrith team looked ready to defend, conceding it wasn’t going to be awarded

Personally I didn’t think it was a try as he seemed to drop it, but it was closer than you think it was live at the ground.

I think there was much more evidence he didn’t ground it .. baffling decision but didn’t affect the result obviously

Even the players were amazed it was awarded

If that performance doesn’t say we need 3 class forwards , we just can’t complete with the better sides, and sorry to say this as benji will always be my hero, but he needs to go NOW
Reality is:

1) there are no 3 class forwards on the market…even if there were, they wouldn’t want to come here.

2) we have a terrible roster….with only 10 of our top 30 would make the top 30 of the leading teams…

3) we have zero desire to hunt in a pack with line speed in Defence…we are happy to sit back…our defence is terrible.
4) Benji needs to replace Hodgo, Heighno and Morris with quality coaches

All 4 of those points can be directed to the head coach.
