LIVE GAME Round 21 versus Panthers

Live Game Discussion
How in the [This word has been automatically removed] did they give that Tago try? I was at the ground and could barely see the screen but it looked like he missed it completely … forearm?

The entire Penrith team looked ready to defend, conceding it wasn’t going to be awarded
I was there too. It wasn't a try but it was given. Even the look on the referee was like "it was confirmed, there's nothing much I can do".

He had his hands there, though I thought the camera on his right clearly showed that if anything, his left hand was forcing it sideways rather than downwards.

So Benji has messed with the halves again.

These guys have no idea what they’re doing in attack. Doueihi barely touched the ball in the first 20 minutes, then he went off and later replaced Latu.

He should be figuring out what he wants at training, not at the game.
Doueihi didn't touch the ball because he was gassed after the early exchanges - AND refuses to take yardage hit-ups which is his primary role at 13!

You can't ball play unless you offer a running option first!

He played in a dinner suit!

Twal needs to run hard and straight. He's one of our typical players in that he folds when the going gets tough. He's massive and yet he runs sideways with twinkle toes.

People blaming the backs, and they were average, but we were strangled as a team. Penrith transition so quickly, everyone is sharp and aware and takes the advantage. So a 20 tap happens instantly, a penalty taken so quickly. They are also relentless about pressuring runners tackle two and three, where we are just off the pace in those tackles and regularly allowed 10 metres and players pushing through the tackle. So that equals dominant field position and then they get attacking kicks in and of course the wingers are going to make errors. As a team, they have to win those contests, and we just never do. Backs aren't doing anything when as a team we're not matching physicality and effort.

We had no plan to beat Penrith today. They were not threatened and were faster, smarter and more physical. Disappointing that we basically seem to try to play Penrith lite. Good coaches may not always win, but you can usually see how they would like to attack and opposition. Like most of our season, we had no obvious plan.

I don't know how to beat Penrith but one thing I noticed is they get three men in on the tackle on the 1st runner, and they look a little thin wide of that area. Surely trying a little short passing near the line between forwards might get something. At least it means they can't just tee up on the first runner like they did all match. Got to try something, right? Our solution seemed to be just keep hitting it up. Like many bad coaches' game plans in our recent history, there seems a complete lack of ambition.

We simply do not have enough depth! And when two or more players are missing we do not have adequate substitution.
Frequent managers/media misinformation does not help!
IMHO, our best today were Turuva, Luai, and May.
L Fainu was MIA, and our wingers say "hail Mary" whenever they have to catch a bomb.
Our unforced errors and discipline were again our biggest and chronic issues.

It’s not doubie that’s the problem, it’s the peanut coach. Doubie should be coming on after 20 minutes once the meatheads get tired. Afterall he’s never played in the forwards before, u need time to adjust. Any idiot knows that!!
Seyfarth only plays well off the bench. We also need a wrecking ball to come on and cause havoc run at Cleary, but old peanut is to stubborn to bring back Hunt.

CORRECT!

The coach is 100% to blame!

It should not even be a debate - because Doubie should not have been re-signed for this year!

And would not be playing NRL anywhere else!

we have a terrible roster….with only 10 of our top 30 would make the top 30 of the leading teams…

And that’s a stretch.
Practically 10 of our first 17 would be in most team’s reserve grade!

We will only ever be a top 8 team with a top 8 roster.

Maybe hooker, one front rower, one winger and one half are covered. That’s all. We should be looking to upgrade everywhere else.

I’ve been a big backer of Benji on here but i’ve always called things out how I see it no matter what the situation is. Listening to Benji say in the presser that he wanted to beat Penrith at their own game just has me scratching my head… trying to beat the 4 time premiers at their own game? Benji needs to do better then that.

Most disappointing thing about this season is the lack of improvement throughout the season if anything we have regressed massively, only thing that has been improved from the last season is our effort and our scramble defence, I don't get how we have so many great attacking players in our team and one of the greatest attacking players ever as a our coach but our attack is ordinary at best, our middle defence is horrible teams are well passed the half way line easily every set against us I don't get how our first contact is so shit. These are all problems that were evident at the start of the year and we've probably gotten worse at these areas if anything then you look at a team like Parramatta yes they aren't the best but you can see a clear improvement from the start of season and they have a style of play they are clearly going in the right direction and they have just started their rebuild, the only improvements we have made from the rebuild is the quality of our players and our effort
You read my mind. Couldn’t have said it any better myself.
