LIVE GAME Round 4 v Warriors

Live Game Discussion
I thought this was a really high quality game by two in form teams playing in horrible conditions. We had to reshuffle the decks a lot and still lost by a whisker. The warriors forward pack is one of the best in the comp and we stuck with them. We really missed Skelton's metres and Galvin had a few immature moments, but he will learn from these. We could easily have been 4-0 to start the season.

I looked at some very interesting stats this morning.
We are coming off 3 spoons in a row, and this year we've won 2, and lost 2 games by only 2 points each game. And obviously were in both those games up to our teeth.
In the grand scheme of things, what the F else could you have expected ?

Only watched the lst 30 so hard for me to judge…how did Seyfarth go? Stats look decent, got a try assist yet people are bagging him. Just wondering if he played poorly earlier in the game or it’s residual dislike of Seyfarth. Seems to be going better than I expected at second row tbh…not saying he is a world beater or anything but can’t imagine he is on more than 300k and imo is playing above that value. Happy to stand corrected just what I’ve seen in the pst three games (thought he was poor round 1).

win those 2 games and perhaps avoid a fourth. We have 2 very difficult away games coming up and could be 2-4 in no better position than last year. Aren't you sick of all this proud of the effort bullshit

Seyfarth made a mistake or 2 BUT he was one of our best players imho.If the entire team was as effective as he was we win without any doubt despite the ref favouring the warriors.

Other than not falling on that ball at the end WHAT did he do wrong , didn’t miss any tackles caught all bombs that came his way , if u don’t like the kid just say so , but don’t put crap on him for a pure game
He wasn't terrible but that play when he booted the ball out exemplified one of the Tigers biggest issues for as long as I can remember - horrendous decision making when the pressure is on. I dont know if it speaks to a lack of game awareness, fitness, talent or trying to take the easy option, or all of the above, but it was a reserve grade play from a good reserve grade player.

A dissapointing result but a good game from two fairly evenly matched teams in poor conditions. All of the tries, from both teams, were soft and preventable.

I personally don't believe that Seyfarth or Latu F penalties were warranted; however, can see how the rules were interpreted differently at the time. I think some of the refereeing decisions lacked consistency, but this affected both teams, so attributing the result to poor officiating is unwarranted. I also thought live that the Warrior slowed the ruck without being penalised for it; however, the PTB speed overall favoured us - so potentially some bias from me at the time. Either way the game was decided by the football gods - not the ref.

You can argue either way as to Faataape's decison to kick the ball as opposed to dive on it towards the end of the game. Had the kick gone in field and resulted in points we would all be lauding him as a genius. Overall I thought he had a sound game.

We were a bounce of the ball short in this one; 1m short on a 40/20, ball dropped over the line, outside shoulder obstruction and rule interpretations. - any of them go the other way and it would be the Warriors wondering how that one got away.

It will be these close losses that hurt us - but if we can build from it we will benefit. Time to review the tape, identify the lessons and learn from them/correct the deficiencies, then shift our focus to preparing ourselves for Brisbane away. This will be a good test of our resolve.

As always way too balanced and rational analysis, Jolls. It doesn't belong on the internet.

I would push back a bit on the Faatape play. I saw it as really poor, even if the kick stays in Warriors clean it up easily.

The Faataape decision was a high risk, high reward play. My personal belief is that he should have dived on the pill and taken the low risk option; however, he was the one out there and made the call.

Warriors played very good, especially when JFH was on the field. We usually bring out the worst in each team and still lose but I can confidently say the first 20 and last 20, Warriors were at their best this year.

Overall, we were probably the slightly better team, but critical ref calls, errors at the wrong time etc were the reason we lost.

I hope there aren't any changes next game, we need to build up the connections and learn how to get the best out of mediocre players like Fa'atape, Toa, Seyfarth etc. They're fring first graders but we need to learn to turn them into regular ones.

To improve:
- last tackle options- pathetic. Not just the kicks itself, but the set ups for the kick and the angles worked by Galvin/Luai. It's way too frantic and unstructured.
- not having too many "set up" plays in Opp 20
- S Fainu- been very disappointed so far this year. If he's injured, give him time off. He's a future (C) in the making but very poor year so far

Great work:
- Toa and Pole for their runs. Very good PCM
- TDS service out of DH is immaculate
- L Fainu- so classy
- Galvin- 2 try assists, 3 LBA- he knows how to attack. Benji needs to teach him how not to do the brain dead passes

The Warriors won because of a BS penalty
Penalty is for shoulder CHARGE
Seyfarth was stationary and the warriors guy fell into his shoulder and the impact was minimal but he collapsed to the ground writhing in agony
Should have got an Oscar
Combine that with the ref being the most inexperienced in the NRL
In the end imo they cheated to get the penalty
Benji thinks so but can't say so
We also have no excuse for their 4th try
Where the hell was our left wing ,left center and left edge forward

Live by the sword die by the sword is the Benji approach I suppose. I just think most regular first graders (which he isn't) sum up that situation up a little better. Fatigue was probably a factor.

It's not where the game was won and lost by any means.

Back row depth is a massive problem and something which needs to be fixed asap in recruitment.
There is nothing NSW cup to help us - actually really like Bird but need some impact and versatility in that backrow position.
Ray Stone or Matt Sitmson or Mavrik Geyer would be ideal.

Fair assessment, but the ref always makes a difference and did again.
We should have won that game, but we could’ve lost by plenty in days gone.
We just played ourselves back into a game again this season, but that lose shows we still have plenty to work on, both on the field and roster. Next weeks team will be interesting as I think injuries and potential suspensions will

Can someone explain why CNK was allowed to stay on the field, yet Turuva (no penalty) had to leave with HIA. The disruption before and during the game to our lineup, I thought the boys did well to hang in there
