the reason we took the 2 is because we don’t have the ability to game manage for 4 minsI'm new to these boards. G'day all!
That was a hard game to watch.
I'm genuinely surprised that Madge gave the direction to take the 2 points.
I'm even more surprised that our 'captains' didn't even consider the option to take the tap and go for a try to seal it out/ take the 6th tackle in the corner whilst bleeding another minute and making them travel up the pitch again (though given our luck we probably would have given away a penalty for a strip).
As always though, we just didn't have any rub of the green.
The forwards did well considering we didn't have our full outfit.
Defence was good. If we can resemble that effort for Sharks, Eels, Rabbits, I think there's potential for a decent finish to the season. We also need to survive the mid-season injuries.
Shame that Nofa was the only player with a bit of urgency, although it was an exhausting game for all players on that pitch.
I don't want to come here and rag on players, but gee whiz, can we sort our spine out? Like come on, it's killing me.
Being at the game gives a different perspective, and when so many opposition supporters after the game turn to you and say we probably got the raw end of the stick, it confirms it.What’s with all the people blaming the ref? Did you guys watch the game? We were poor, the Titans were poor. The ref did his job, I can’t think of one call that was terrible. The early try was worth a look but it did look like it touched Ken’s hand so was probably no try anyway. Everything else was reasonable and what we deserved. We were lazy in the ruck and scrappy across the park. Stop looking for someone external to blame.
well said... they bloody gave it all they can - I was just thinking lots are screaming about whether to take the two or not and/or go for the try - whatever decision they make they will be canned for it - damned if they do and damned if they don't - like you said, I too saw a team that gave it all and yes the results didn't go our way and sometimes it's just the way it is, that's lifeBeing at the game gives a different perspective, and when so many opposition supporters after the game turn to you and say we probably got the raw end of the stick, it confirms it.
There is no doubt we let ourselves down with some of the stuff we did. And the refs decision for us were probably fair. But you wont convince me that he was using the same measuring stick for the Titans. No way known. At one stage, the penalty count was 9-3 and both teams were as bad as each other.
Because we are who we are at the moment we need a fair go, just consistency and our share of the 50/50 to reward what little we have. I'm not suggesting we were angels, but they were not either. Some of the decisions were diabolical to be honest, and literally 30 seconds after the Titans had done the same thing.
Plenty are saying the standard of the game was poor, but I compare it to the last game against the Bulldogs last year at Redcliffe. Chalk and Cheese mate. I did not see one single player give up last night. You could see they were angry and they wanted it. Sure, they dropped balls and made mistakes, but there was no doubt they were trying. If anyone suggests they arent trying based on last nights performance....they are wrong.
But again, just consistency and fairness from the ref. You could predict when the penalties were coming and it was directly related to crowd noise. I don't always blame the ref because good teams overcome that, but when you aren't the good team, that mess served up last night was poor standard refereeing.
If your focus is on a particular person being the problem, then you will never identify the problems and as such, find it extremely difficult to apply a reasonable solution. We defended well, this player did some good things, if this player did this we would have won, if we got this call we win....etc..... this is where the problem is with this joint, if you are really honest and admit we have a massive problem on and off the park, you then have to identify the problem (in terms of who really needs to stay or go on or off the park) and attempt to fix the problem, we don't really want to do that, and i doubt we have the people to do that. I dont buy into rhetoric from Madge and brooks and joffa etc...., when will one of our captains, other than douihie, who isnt playing, come out and show what's lacking at this joint, guts, and state we are ordinary and that's how we are playing, i think us fans would appreciate that more than the paralising, numb diatribe that Madge spews out after every loss. But i do understand Madge cant risk offending any players at the moment, might be the final straw in him having to find a new job.
Instead of putting her to bed I got my daughter to watch with me. After 10 mins she was so bored she took herself to bed. Smart girl. 😆
Yes and no Aussie, by kicking for touch and winding down the clock then just hand the ball over after six slow tackles they would have to come the full length of the field to score a try.The 2 point penalty kick near the end of the game was the right call. The feel of that game was that the Titans attack was terrible and our defence should have been enough to hold them up when ahead by four. If we went for the try and f**ked up, you could bet your ass the ref would have piggy backed the titans to the other end to give them a penalty kick chance of levelling up the scores.
At four in front and considering the state of that game, we should have held them being 4 in front knowing that they had to score a try to win. Madden grounds that, we win the game.
Did we defend well though? That was probably the worst performance from teh Titans in many years. And we still couldn't beat them. When you're in a slump things compound in key moments but geez to lose the way we did that one really hurts. The players had a dig last night, they competed & if we defend like that in every game eventually we will get a win.
Feel for Madden, he will be shattered today & would've been MOM with his effort. His defensive efforts on Fifita & Kelly mixed with some important kicks at times when we really needed them and his link play to the wider men provided something we haven't had so far this season. He showed some really positive signs that he could be an answer at NRL level if he uses this game as a platform to build from.
worst performance from them it's because we defended them - we didn't allow them to get a roll on, I thought we were going to fold in the last 10 minutes but nah, our boys gave it all, yes not the desired result but you can see they gave it allDid we defend well though? That was probably the worst performance from teh Titans in many years. And we still couldn't beat them.
Almost any other team in the comp would have put 40 on either the Titans or Tigers based on the absolute crap dished up last night by both teams. We were terrible, Titans even worse.

I thought our D was ok tonight as they scored off a kick that hits the post and if it didn't Daine would have caught it.Did we defend well though? That was probably the worst performance from teh Titans in many years. And we still couldn't beat them.
