LIVE GAME Round 6 vs. Eels

Live Game Discussion
Yeah good call. Unfortunately Naden will be out for a long period now as well. Centre is going to be a real concern. When is Tommy due back? I don’t the Kepoa is a long term solution there
In the pre game interview at the ground Tommy said he is good to go after the bye

It’s not the correct way to interpret that statistic. It doesn’t necessarily reflect better forward play. To me that statistic means we are terrible at scoring tries when we get in the attacking 20m zone (which is obvious from watching the games). If we scored more often we’d have less tackles in the opposition 20m line.
I take your point, but we were also terrible at scoring tries last season and came second last in that metric. So there is obviously a difference in the way we play. We were terrible offensively and defensively last season, whilst also having terrible field position. This season we are the same but with good field position. So there's obviously a big need for a creative player to capitalise on this field position, whether that's a half or a fullback. We're closer to the solution than we think. One or two spine players away. That's the main takeaway for me.

Every team has a Moses man. Who’s Wests flair?

We had some flair today. Go and watch our tries today. Brooks made some great passes to create space. Bateman has something special. Api is really good as well.

I'd like to see our forwards roll over the top of some teams as well. Bateman is doing something but our pack weren't great today.

When Brooks takes the blinkers off, he’s an entirely different player. Incredibly frustrating how much he overthinks.

What % do you assign to Madge for the current WT woes?
Not sure you can measure that, but he tried to employ a style of football that doesn’t work anymore I.e big, slow forwards bashing it up 1 out and through the middle.

Now they need to change back to a style where the players can actually take some risks and score some points.

Saw a crazy stat on Twitter just now. Tigers have gone from 2nd last in 2022 to 2nd in 2023 for % of play the balls in opposition 20m line. Literally shows that progress is being made, with forwards laying the platform. We're just missing the gamebreaking halves and fullback that other teams have which would help to execute the field position into points.
We know this is the case and it was expected when we recruited 4 high level players to our pack.
It was also expected when we didn’t recruit any high level backs.
We have had numerous chances to win 5/6 this year. Only the Broncs game saw us without any chance.

Are you referring to this ?

I think the Kepaoa/Tupou edge combo has been one of the few positive attacking signs from the first 6 weeks. Both big, quick guys with footwork. Absolutely worth persisting with imo

Also AJ could become a real leader at the club. You can tell the guy just wants to win, has played 3 positions within the last 6 weeks and just gets on with it.

Stats wise we"re heaps better than last year
It's the lack of execution & the 1st half lapses that are killing us
The effort is there
We just need to convert the stats & effort into points
The 3 quick tries against the dogs & the 3 second half tries today are a step in the right direction but there's still heaps of improvement to be made
I think we will turn the corner soon
🙏

Just wish he could catch a ball and not be Rowdy 2.0 with his flippers.

I did enjoy AJ telling Gutho to F off at fulltime when he was talking crap to him.

Was that asu not shaking gutho’s hand? Just shake his hand bud
I replayed that about 10 times on Kayo, Gutho was mouthing absolute crap to AJ after the siren and final tackle. He shook Bryces hand and Gutho was still carrying on like a muppet while AJ turned his back, AJ turned back and said something to the effect of F off. Gutho was the sore winner in the situation.

wow, yeah this is what is making this year so frustrating. So many chances but just don't have the footy IQ in the halves on the field to take advantage.

I wouldn't shake the [This word has been automatically removed]s hand [This word has been automatically removed] him

Honestly I hope Sheens doesn't hook Staines there. Overall he was the best option the tigers have there by far. Really unfortunate what happened at the end there, mistakes happen. If the tigers keep up the attitude and plays they pulled in the second half they'll have a few wins under their belt my years end. Tigers have won most of their second halves, it seems that it takes 40min for them to click together and form some sort of offensive, but by then they are usually already behind by so much they end up breaking basically even. But I'm gonna continue to have hope for them. Honestly believe that if tigers weren't forced to change due to Naden and Doueihi injuries they would of held in there, maybe not won it but taken it close.
