LIVE GAME Round 6 vs. Eels

Live Game Discussion
Tupou was our best yesterday but let's not ruin the fact that we have a quality winger by moving him to plug holes in the center .leave Staines at FB , leave Tupou on the wing
We need 2 quality centers Tim and Justin go find them !
In the meantime for next game what to do ? IMO center pairing Brooks and Talau and maybe use Bateman as a playmaker ? It's difficult need 2 centers and a half URGENT

wow, yeah this is what is making this year so frustrating. So many chances but just don't have the footy IQ in the halves on the field to take advantage.
I think it will turn in to points eventually - and the best thing is, once the system of play is coached from a younger age it won't hurt us so much when we lose players to injury. Getting to that point will take time though.

AJ Kepaoa vs Eels

1 try
1 line break assist
7 tackle breaks
11 runs for 103m

Most Metres

Charlie Staines - 238 (23 runs)
Junior Tupou - 221 (16)
Starford To’a - 182 (14)
David Klemmer - 176 (20)
Adam Doueihi - 152 (18)
John Bateman - 132 (16)
Isaiah Papali’i - 121 (12)

Others with 100+m: Utoikamanu, Kepaoa

Honestly I hope Sheens doesn't hook Staines there.

Surely he gets the fullback spot for the rest of the season unless he has some shockers and Laurie or Bula start to carve up in reserves.

I liked him as a signing and I hope they sign him up longer term and work on his game.

seasons over after 6 rounds well done guys can we forfeit the rest of the year won’t be as embarrassing

One serious problem i just rewatched game and big problem I see
We are down 22-20 and Api clever grubber we force goal line drop out and Gutha kicks long and Staines who had a great game drops the ball but that can happen that's not the issue
The issue is this -:its now Parras ball close to halfway and Parra score on the 4th tackle within 60 seconds that's a big issue . You have to defend errors !

Yes Starford Toa needs to spend some time with defence coach Furner on his positioning & having trust in his inside man. Sivo should not have had the space he did for that try & probably the one earlier too.

There were a lot of positives to come from the game.

*Forwards held their own and really steamed onto the ball hard in the last 20. You could see their potential to be really dominant.
*Bateman further emerged as a worker, leader and attacking weapon.
*Staines was outstanding and showed clearly why he should be the long term fullback (why he wasn't persisted with originally is beyond me)
*Tupou underlined his star quality with a slashing display
*Doueihi played his best game in more than a year.
*Brooks finally played some instinctive football (after frustrating the hell out of me in the first half)

All of this could have led to a Tiger resurgence this season but the injuries to Doueihi and Naden are catastrophic. They are crippling because there are no replacements. Neither the Wakeham/ Brooks or Brooks/ Laurie combinations in the halves instill much confidence. I'd consider Koroisau/ Brooks as the new pairing because Api showed a lot of playmaking ability yesterday. In the centres, I'd persist with AJ and promote Reilly for his defence. Toa can stay on the wing but only after a lesson on marking up in defence.

I'd be talking to Melbourne for a loan swap - Nofa for Pezet.

Worked a treat for both of us with Grant.
Need to find someone that hasn’t experienced the Nof.

They were glad last year was a loan & they got to give him back

I agree some positives from the game mainly that our pack matched theirs and we had more possession territory and should have won .
However we didn't and Parra not going that well this year .
I watched both cup and Nrl carefully and we lost game in first 20 mins with Moses 3 grubbers they were all initiated near where AJ should be .He was playing left center despite the team sheet and all happened about 20m in from our left and he just stood there and watched no urgency . I think he's a good 2nd rower /bench utility .
Re Reilly his butter fingers actually cost the game .as he spilt ball putting down over line
However the cup side in general had good goal line defence

I agree Reilly's mistake was costly but, as I said, he defends much better than Toa and has enough flair with the ball to be given a shot in my opinion. Regarding AJ, I think he has the necessary overall potential to be persisted with. Besides, we don't have many choices.

Fair comment ,I thought Saukuru looked one of the better cup backs
We really need 2 class centers look at Storm Olam Reimis ,Sharks Rsmien Talakai
Even Knights Gagai Best Broncos etc etc .In fact Parra is also weak in the centers

I reckon Reilly to 6 and we just look to run it all the time.

Not bad but I prefer him in the centres for his defence. Koroisau/ Brooks the halves, Simpkin hooker and Toa to the wing. Radical I know but the Tigers are desperate and Koroisau looked like a halfback on Sunday.

Just to reinforce your point, Tupou made a great run from the backfield and attempted an impossible back-handed pass. Parra take possession and score 5 tackles later.

Two errors, two converted tries gave Parra 12 of their total 28 points.

On the behind the roar podcast, Roy masters said he would have the team training in defending an overlap constantly, getting them to trust the player next to them…. Surely they already do? Lol

Problem with defence is both sides
First parra get 3 tries with grubbers against our left which is Kepoa ,Tupou and our left edge 2nd row which I think is Bateman ( hard to tell as he seems to go all over the field
Second parra get 2 tries with Sivo against our right which is Naden and Toa and right edge Papalii .the 2nd try Naden already off the field
Problem no urgency no scramble as 2 of their tries came within 4 or 5 tackles of a lost ball
