Live Game Discussion
Never seen officiating plumb such depths. It is beyond embarrassing. It is clear tomorrow will be a lottery. Hold the ball, you hold more tickets to win.
Early 80’s had Greg Hartley counting 7 tackle sets for manly.
Late 90’s, there was a reason we started using video.
Super league years had two national comps stretching the quality of refs.
A few years back when they tried to penalise everything out of the game, and then back tracked. The refs were dizzy for months.
And then there is the obligatory game or two a year where they completely rip the Tigers, even after the hooter.
But yes this year’s standard has been particularly low across all the refs, and I said the other day it reminded me of the super league years, which I believe to be possibly the worst in my time. I don’t really have the intel I used to, and sometimes wonder how they train to be better these days. There certainly seems to be little accountability for poor games, or systems in place to improve and then having to work your way back to first grade and then back up the ladder to the big games.

IMO ever sense the 6 again calls came into the game it has gone downhill and I am not enjoying it like in the past.

It is a dead set lottery (we are normally on the wrong side of course) but fans have had enough.

They can spend mins looking for a fingernail touch to rule a no try YET they cannot overrule a blatant forward pass for a try.. Not talking about line ball ones but the ones where everyone including the Bunker would agree but they cannot overrule it.

Common sense is needed urgently, and these are the 2 areas that need changing.
The 6 again is lazy reffing, and allows them to manipulate the game without the microscope pressure.
Get use to it, I reckon.

I normally can’t stand Latrell Mitchell but I think it was a tough call on him last night. When a player drops down that low really hard to avoid. Despite his poor record a fine at most imo.
You'd have to drop down really low to be lower than Mitchell. 🤣

Didn't see the footy tonight but I remember the game against Manly we had two seasons ago when Belinda Sharpe was referree with possibly the most blatant forward pass I've ever seen.

You didn’t answer where he was supposed to disappear too , maybe Mitchell was meant to sidestep 😂
The problem for Latrell is he flys in to fast in these situations.
Exactly the same when he got Manu from the roosters the other year, even in this game he came flying across and luckily missed the player near the side line on one of Melbourne’s try’s.
Once the attacker sidesteps or passes the ball he has no hope of stopping the collision.
And people are kidding themselves if they think Latrell isn’t going in to these tackles not to hurt the player, he wouldn’t be going for their head but he’s going in to smash them, and as by the evidence he has to change his approach otherwise it will happen again in the future.

Penriths 10 points came off the back of refereeing/touchie blunders
The non 40/20 and a high shot against waddell which was nothin

this game was a mess and it'll only get worse, particualarly in wet slippery conditions....seeing so many games now with ridiculously lopsided stats, possesion and red zone tackles

Im betting on 4 bins in our game tomorow
And yet it will all miraculously change come Origin time and those 3 games will be allowed to flow as all matches should be. Beats the hell out of me why they can’t ref every game like Origin, instead of serving up this shit every week. There is no excuse .

The problem is that week to week rules change so us fans get frustrated.

There's video ref interventions to send players to sin bin this week, but absolutely no consequence last week. Then eventually for certain games or players it all stops again.

As fans we just want the rules to be the rules. Sure refs are going to make mistakes but the issue this year is a constant reactive reinterpretation which undermines credibility of the refs and probably totally saps the confidence of the refs and players.

Six agains are too random, sin binning are too random, video ref interventions are random, and the decisions of all of them also seem random. And players are getting caught in situations like supposed hip drops when they aren't and getting sin binned for high shots that are so minor or completely unavoidable due to sudden movement of the play.

I respect they're trying to protect player welfare, and that this is going to mean unintended impacts will be severely punished, but this too has gone too far and is also only randomly applied.

Yep this week the message is definitely “oh shite we forgot about the imposed crackdown last week”
It’s come back with a vengeance and then some.

I think a fullbacks job is to smash anyone that breaks through the line legally of course , back in the day Jimmy Jack would clean em up with or without the ball , nothing wrong with force if it’s a legal tackle , i just think it’s a bit unlucky for Mitchell cos he was committed for mine , just my opinion

Yeah nah

I’m thinking the issue with the refereeing at the moment is we have in there minds the top 2 ref’s
(Adam Gee & Ashley Klein)
working in the bunker actually refereeing all the games and the ref on field is just a puppet.
I am really struggling to finish watching games today because the referee’s (sin bin) is wrecking the contest.

We really should have an Anzac jersey before any other special round numbers ie indigenous harmony womens etc
Id be disappointed if we priorities something else over Anzac

15 sin bins so far this weekend.
This is a special round. Why have a crackdown?
