LIVE GAME Round 8 v Sharks

Live Game Discussion
The main thing he brings is leadership and organisation in defence.
It’s no coincidence ours has improved and Penriths has fallen.
Bang on. We also conceded 40 against Brisbane when he wasnt on the field. There's enough of a sample size to suggest he is a big reason our defence has transformed.

The attack will come. He has had 6 months to build some combos. He had 10 years at Penrith.

I was watching along on 9Now as I travelling through country Victoria (away for the weekend). My heart rate had been considerably higher (10-20bpm) for the last 30 minutes with scores tied. Then we get to penalty, Doueihi kicks and I still can’t quite make out if it’s going in and suddenly my phone freezes and I freak out. Spent the next 5 minutes frantically searching for the results hoping my reception comes back, to be relieved that it in fact went in.

So glad to win that, wasn’t pretty but 2 points is 2 points. I need a rest now 😅.
Heart attack Tigers are back!

Seriously... Imagine being told we would beat Cronulla, but were counting on them missing 4, yes 4 attempts at field goals. Some were even within 30m.

It's ugly, it's fun. It's a win.

You don't see the game properly there but you pickup different things.

That tackle by Galvin at the end was incredible. The change of direction by Hazelton and just the space he had and him running at speed and Galvin just took him down. That's the sort of play we've been missing recently and there were a number of other try saving efforts as well, but that one was special.

Also worth mentioning the next play afterwards as well, which demonstrated the team work and desperation. Sharks looked to have two extra players and we still defended our line. Remarkable.

People knocking luai's play and getting a little frustrated by him, but I thought he looked crisp and threatening for us. Yeah, I'd like him to take the ball more and be the option, but I think that's more team plan than his fault.

When luai was off the field with the HIA we conceded a try the boys were quiet and disconnected. API eventually talked to them but they looked exhausted. When luai was on the field he brought the team together, a clear leader and something we've missed. He still obviously has to play well but I think that part of his game is impressive.

Turuva is all energy. He seemed to be taking multiple hit ups each set and was brilliant in his runs. Fast and strong.

Everyone saying seyfarth stank it up and that may be true but his contact in tackles and his positioning in defense looked quality. He seemed to run across field a bit but it still looked effective.

It looked like a quality game with few errors out there. Cronulla were firing at the end with slick ball movement and strong running on the edges. Kennedy and fonua Blake looked particularly good, but their whole team looked good. I really thought they were going to get us and I wasnt even that upset because the wind and the momentum were so strong in that second half.

TDS is adding so much sharpness when he comes on the field. He's really progressing well.

The forwards played like a unit. Everyone praising May, but he didn't really stand out to me for once (beside his long spell on the field), but what did stand out was just the cohesion of the group. Despite sharks looking increasingly dominant the forwards held up well and made the sharks work for everything.

The little effort plays were rewarded today. It was a great win and a huge atmosphere, a really special game to have been at.

A couple of observations from me after I’ve had time to decompress and watch the replay:

1. In the last 15 mins of regulation which included Pole in the bin, Twal was huge for us. Had half a dozen hits ups with great leg speed and found his front a lot. He did have one drop. Turuva also very strong during this period (and throughout).

2. Galvin had 3 kicks in the last 11 minutes of regulation and they were all terrible. Even if one of those kicks was good it would have flipped momentum massively and pinned the sharks in their own ten metre zone.

3. Sione played very well, especially his two runs in ET leading to the winning penalty goal. His defence also was strong. Would like to seek him get a few more minutes and May a bit less.

4. John Morris take a bow. Our defence has been good all year, or at least significantly improved. Same goes for whoever ran the offseason fitness. It’s the fittest we’ve been for a long time. Edge defence tonight was good.

5. Luai is providing more than just his on field play. He is the “glue” that drags the team forward.

6. Billy Burns for Sharks was good filling in at left second row. I wonder if he would be available for us to sign?

7. It’s important that we keep in touch with the top 8 to give us incentive to keep playing hard. In previous seasons we dropped off as soon as we lost touch with the top 8. We have a winnable game this week against the Dragons although they are coming off an 8 day turnaround and us off 6. Perhaps we will be without Api also.
