LIVE GAME Round 9 versus Sharks

Live Game Discussion
The stats dont paint a pretty picture.

Missed tackles
Luai - 4
Hunt - 4
Toa -3
Hope - 3
Twal - 3
Madden - 3
Pole - 2
Fainu - 2
Tavana -2

All run metres
Taylan May - 150
Laulili- 141
Terrell May - 115
Turuva - 103

I still cant get my head around how our forwards were dominated so badly.
Padding To’as woefulness.. his stats don’t look so bad when you consider Can’t miss tackles if you don’t even attempt..

Stayed off the forum guys I was scared of racking up too many swearing points.

What a train wreck, can't believe what was happening in that game talk about coming back to earth with a thud.

It's probably been said but that effort from Toa was pathetic, defence was non existent full of misses and running up past the line then looking around for someone to blame.

Don't want to see him in 1st grade again, I wouldn't give him a game in Siberia.
That second 40 was as heartless and incompetent as you can get.
Sharks weren’t great either….they left plenty of points out there and that could have been another 70 pointer.
We can’t just blame blokes being out either…the game plan should have been different. Keep it simple, turn them around, field position and completions the focus and make them earn it.
We did the opposite.

The bloody dropped ball and poor decisions killed us, it felt like we were defending the whole second half turning the ball over and over.

The way the game swings with the possession now, you keep on doing that and you get punished as the result showed.

God knows what's going to happen in Melbourne next week, but if they dish that crap up again we will gift them a win.

Toa stats are deceiving tho, 3 missed tackles but he had a few where he didn’t even make the effort to attempt a tackle and they scored

It's not that Skelton is perfect.
It's that he has been better then any other winger bar Turuva.
Turuva has really helped lock down the backline defense. Moving him to fullback clearly is a mistake.

Skelton at least doesn't turnstyle.

We changed too many positions in the backrow today. Combos lost and we got done.
i dont think hes better than luke

Neither would Siberia!

Just watched the replay knowing the scoreline.

Weirdly without emotion, I do not actually feel that upset as I probably would be watching the game.

We were in it for 50 minutes really.

They found a weakness and kept exploiting it. The coaching staff also has to take accountability because Sharks have thrown this wonderful shape all year. Madden and Toa were horrible in reading the attack. They both should have known better.

Tavana... well it's obvious. Biggest reason for the loss, just like Hemasi against Broncs. You can sometimes get these game from youngsters. My only beef with all this is that we will now remedy them slowly, but then they may sign elsewhere once a better product..

The middles stood up for most of the game, but then when the momentum swung, extremely poor work by Terrell especially. Hope is a rookie, Twal had played 80 and Pole/ Sione/ Hunt are impact players. Terrell really should have led the line speed. We have to have a call where we just absolutely smash the line speed. It's more to do with anticipation than effort IMO.

I can see why Bennett wanted winners to kick off tbh... with the rule changes, it's very hard to get momentum back.

I like that Benji is on the sidelines but he also needs to take accountability for not doing something when it got tough. There was a moment in the first half at about 30 minutes where Taylan May dropped the ball. They kicked to the corner and then we were completely bunched and Nicho got the intercept from a bad offload. At that time, it was like our team collectively just waited for the half to end.

I honestly feel this scoreline will do a bit of good for our team.

Tavana was the root of it all, with Benjis in action to change the narrative! He left him out there to sink or swim, guess what he sunk! Ruined him for life, not many players come back from that. Tavana is shot, due to Benji not making a call.
I clearly recall Dylan Edwards having one of those games early in his career. Hooked part way through the game - he needs to go and get some more reps and come back in with a solid centre inside him. Toa is cooked and probably needs to be medically retired.

Look I was at the pub watching the game, so hard to truly tell the assessment of toa’s input. But it wasn’t Toa that dropped the numerous bombs and direct falling off tackles that led to try’s. That unfortunately was in the hands of Tavana and benjis inaction.

Not sure what he was going to do there.

Madden had already been committed to the game as had Hunt an Sione. At half time we were still in it and the big clangers from Tavana were yet to come. His confidence at that stage was not in bits. A bit of a pep talk at half time - telling him that he had earnt the spot and that the team had confidence in him was expected to encourage his confidence.

The problem really didn't raise its ugly head until the second half where we had no possession and were constantly defending in our own half. Benji had a decison to hook Tavana and have no middle or perservere and try to shore up the middle with Seyfarth. As it was we then lost Sam F and the fatigue cycle really set in - more errors, poor decsions, poor reads etc.

Benji had to make a call on hooking Tavana or keeping up the middle rotation. He made that choice and will have to live with it - but if he made it the other way I doub't result would have been much different. Completely gassed middles creating the errors instead of Tavana.

Our second half was simply poor, and Tavana/Toa were a big part of that. Once the momentum went the Sharks way we simply couldn't compete with the fatigue factor. Flush this game and move on - the kid goes back to Cup and gets some time to rebuild his confidence while Benji identifies a way to deal with restructuring around the injuries.

Fair enough, I was not in the right frame for timing prospective of player rotation at the time. Don’t really care to watch the game again to review my thoughts. You are generally more often on point in most matters, so I hear you. Although it’s benjis job to make those right calls. In this I believe he made the wrong call. I think he should have hooked him and left 2 forwards in rotation. Conceding they let what 6-7 try’s down his side, and the reason they had so much possession was due to tavanas hands. So hooking him should have changed the possession.
Anyway no taking it back now, unfortunately…
