OFFICIAL Royce Hunt #298

Royce Hunt:

“I still have a debt to settle with him [Horsbra]. Hopefully he doesn’t cry this time. If he wants a challenge, we’ll lock horns and see who comes out on top. I’m a bit heavier than him. He’s got that "dad bod’.”

"Hunt was delighted to have sorted his future, and said he would love the chance to strike up an on-field combination with "Big Red".

“I spoke to their recruitment guy and [the Tigers] are keen on Big Red. He’s a good guy and would be a great buy,” Hunt told this masthead. “I was actually at Canberra with him for a while. We’re two guys who won’t back down. If they [Wests Tigers] get him, we can go there and ramp up their forward pack."

Love it

Royce will be a good signing as he adds the intimidating factor to the pack that is sadly missing. Stef had it for a few games when fired up, however Royce looks to have it all the time he is on. Just need to get his fitness up to play more minutes and that is my only concern as our S&C team needs an overhaul as we get dominated far to easily.

Pole will get better as he gets older and learning off Royce will help him as he is strong in defence for his size. We have Twal and Klem who can lock down the middle defensively and Hunt and Pole to drive the attack and have offloading ability to get Luai, Galvin and L Fainu to create opportunities.

Hope we can get Royce to emulate Packer v Matterson on Stef when we face Melbourne next season. Few more signings to come and we will improve next year.

Let's start this week with a great win to close out a challenging season, but one that has shown hope and given a few kids the chance to taste FG that they would otherwise not have had a chance. Sets them up for a big off season to improve with some quality coming.

New to forum but been stalking it for a while.

Decided to watch his 20 minute cameo from the weekend to see what he’s like and in what I think were his first 2 touches the Sharks scored a try on the next play. He ran the ball very hard including from kick offs and got a decent amount of post contact metres each time requiring 3 sometimes 4 players in each tackle and seemed hard to put down. Defensively didn’t see much as the Sharks started dominating as soon as he came on (coincidence???), but he made 3 good tackles after halftime. One at around 43:30-50, 50:30 and 50:50, but after the last two he was gassed and went off the field. However, I could see defence being an issue in some of his other tackles missing the mark a bit. Also his endurance isn’t great as he was the most noticeable sharks player lagging behind and getting more than 15 minutes out of him in one go without halftime may be tough unless he improves this over the offseason.

Probably one of the best things I saw was his play the ball speed. It was rapid even if he had been tackled to the ground, averaging like 2.7s or something and gave the sharks good opportunities on the subsequent play multiple times. I looked at some other games and he seemed to frequently get under 3s play the ball speed (including a 1.86!) while most Tigers forwards were 3.2-3.6 from a small sample size of games.

I think given then available market this is actually a very good signing for our pack given Utoikamanu is leaving, Hunt kind of replaces him as a dangerous ball runner (on less minutes). We already have Klemmer and Twal as more defensive middles (both generally 96-98% tackle efficiency), while Seyfarth is a workhorse. Pole and Samuela are developing well into some very strong attacking forwards who are also playing some big minutes. Royce provides the perfect impact of the bench as well as being a mature head who can hopefully help the other boys develop. However, I definitely think we need another 2 forwards (1 of which must be second row) but only 2 (I think) roster spots left if no options are taken unless we release Bateman which seems likely.

It’s uncanny what a crap roster does to an estimation of what an NRL player actually is…
I just went through his stats and it’s pretty uninspiring stuff. He’s missed four tackles in low minutes on a few occasions.

He’s hardly ripped the door off the hinges. Probably his surname is his redeeming factor. Also noticed pretty nice footwork on a few occasions but doesn’t break the line.

Reserve grader for mine.

Not in a top four side in my opinion. He’s looked okay in a handful of appearances in a probable Spoon side.
Reality.
He’s been going great (for where we are as a club and he as a player), since his bros arrived and we need to reward that with resigning him asap, but lets not loose touch with reality just bcoz he’s had a few good games in a bottom two side. He has a long way to go before he is a run on player for a top 8 side. He probably wouldn’t have played NRL yet if he was in a top four team.

interesting 2 read Benjie mentioned/ asked him if prepared to play longer minutes, will it make him as a player (he;s gettin on} or lessen his effect,i have no choice but 2 trust those in charge, last 15yrs have bn a party.we sure need some sort of hit man even if its 4 30 min s a game
