Rugby league history

Strong Magpies side, Joe Cool, Don Moseley and the late Eric 'Buddy' Cain, Ron Giteau and Wayne Smith, Peter Rowles and Tommy in the halves.

Graeme O'Grady, Les Boyd, Geoff Foster (my personal favourite player), Dallas, John Purcell and Bill Cloughessy in the forwards.

Though don't remember a lot about Bill Cloughessy, just looking him up played 10 games for the Magpies 1978 and 1979 and 1 for Balmain in 76.

Bill Cloughessy played for Balmain coming off the bench against Manly at Brookie,a no nonesense prop who was fairly limited in ability but would never let you down.

I heard a story that poor old Bill was cleaned up by big Charlie Frith from Souths one game and didn’t move for a while!

Charlie used to tackle extremely hard but he had a farly low tackle count, the reason being was players used to attack where he was not defending because he was arguably the biggest hitter in the game at that time
