'1962 Grand final. Wests new fullback Ken Bray.'
"In the 1962 NSWRFL Grand Final, Ken Bray was the fullback for Western Suburbs.
Though he had joined the club in 1960 from Balmain, he was a late inclusion for the decider, stepping in after regular fullback and season top-scorer Don Parish was ruled out with the flu.
Bray spent most of the 1962 season in reserve grade, scoring 5 tries and 21 goals there, before being called up for the biggest game of the year.
The match was Played on 15 September 1962 at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) against St George. Despite the 9–6 loss to the Dragons, Bray was praised for his "sound play" and "experienced" approach.
He was Wests' only scorer on the day, kicking three goals.
The game itself was a brutal "mud-heap" slog, remembered for the dismissal of St George's Bill Wilson and a controversial disallowed try for Wests that nearly ended the Dragons' legendary winning streak."
