Rugby League vernacular

I didnt mind defending in the front line. It was tighter too as we still had inside and outside centres switching sides in the defensive line.

I think the transition was bought about with the split forward structure mid-late 80's?

In the BRL, the forwards still played together until the early 90's.

I reckon it was a bit later than that, in the rep stuff (which would have lagged a bit) in 93 I played behind the line, and 94 in it…..

Hey Watto, You are probably like me and when halves had to transition from defending behind the line as a covering rover to having to defend in the front line. Worse change in footy ever, went from making 4 or 5 side on covering tackles a game (usually with excellent kudos given for each tackle) to having every forward in the comp trying to run over the top of you, and getting blasted for not bringing them to ground….
I might be still playing if I didnt have to tackle!

That was the funnest part of the game for me Goose!

"He couldn't tackle his way out of a wet paper bag"
"White line fever" - Although this could apply to some other aspects of people's lives :smiling_imp:

You were were probably good at it, me not so much

Many a video session was paused with the coach wondering how I missed someone

Muppet started coming up a few years ago. Haven't heard it much recently.

Would love to hear a ref described as a cretin.

AAAA hwert kimmon whoooo! Always has 12 plus empty beer cans under his seat.

A head like a dropped pie.

I liked one Vossy used recently when Jamie Lyon took that dive -"that contact wouldn't knock a maggot off a chop"

I bet James Hooper is reading this thread the goofy-headed bastard, he is the clich`e king:can't go one sentence without throwing a clich`e in for good measure. "Couldn't knock the froth off a cuppucino" is his default phrase, he wouldn't go half an hour without quoting that gem.

Well there you go 10 posts in and the Hall of Famer Legend in his own mind makes it about himself..

rampaging backrowers Props and all…

I was talking about the fullbacks union as a whole Geo

What union were you a part of Geo ??

I would be on the end of one of Watto's majestic short balls trampling over you…if it wasn't for a severe lack of talent ..i would have went all the way...

Structures is another RL term gets on my goat...It's Rugby League for God's sake...not rocket surgery...

Did you actually make a tackle Watto ??

Or did you push the actual tackler out of the way

Questioning someones tackling a bit rash coming from a Fullback?!

Halves …............they never change ............almost as bad as wingers

TT played centre and wing…the famous saying at the time was "" TT goes where Angels fear to tread""
Pure guts and determination wins out every time....there was no place for showponiesxor wannabes....

By the sounds of it we need to hook you ,Stryker and Geo up

Second rowers were invented to hold the wingers hand

Eventually they started to marry where it was legal
