If they have it for the news then they won't leave because there's no rugby.

Not quite my point.

My bad.

No Mercy.

We won't win another Super Rugby Crown in my lifetime and we got knocked out in the QF by the Poms

What did Rugby expect ...Fox to double their investment

Oh God would that have been hilarious if they turned their nose up at the same money with a declining product.

Things work in mysterious ways

It’s strange hearing this.

I’m playing rugby over here in London and it’s growing. Teams everywhere, the streets are abuzz with 6 Nations vibes. It’s institutional.

Was in Paris last weekend for England v France and the stadium was packed, 80,000 people and an insane atmosphere.

I think Australia is just saturated

Rugby is definitely running a long last in the footy codes battle Kul

Northern hemisphere rugby has always been different to Southern Hemisphere rugby. Sadly, referees are becoming so fickle that all rugby now replicates NH rugby. One pass off the ruck to a fat prop who advances 0.25m. Over and over again. NH crowds love it. We hate it

As happy said it’s also ranks last in footy codes in OZ .
Not to mention the poor time zone we live in when it comes to broadcasting Aussie games into Europe .

I think that’s a fair assessment.

In the Sydney Subbies rugby that I played for years (until moving OS) it was very league dominated, lots of islander boys with much more focus on quick hands

Coming over here, it was a shock to the system to play slow, muddy, grinding rugby. It’s not about getting quick plays to expose the flanks with fancy backline plays (ala Benji) but instead about piston-drives up the middle and much more tactical kicking. As a 10, this was a challenge to adapt to.

So we play on the biannual Bingham Cup and the aussie sides always smash everyone. Why? Because the European sides come to play wet, muddy, 80min rugby with fat bastards hitting each other non stop. The aussies come and just throw it wide and score before anyone has even taken their seats.

In essence, the aussies are playing “league/touch”

Yeah maybe in London, but in the north, not so much. Union has minimal presence in the north.

I used to enjoy watching Rugby back in the era of Farr-Jones and Lynagh but not so much now.
If it was played like the Barbarians I'd watch every game but I'm sure the purists would be offended. Sadly its potential is stifled by its rules and refereeing.

But...as others have mentioned the NRL is slowly on the way down.some changes need to be made to bring it back to its former glory

I think the refs lose control of the ruck. rule changes have made it harder. As a back I was never a fan of getting rucked at the breakdown so did the right thing now there is nothing a team can do to reduce infringement. The refs have then another area to police with less vision.
