The latest mail suggests English millionaire Marwan Koukash has set his sights on taking over the financially struggling Balmain Tigers.
Koukash, who owns British club Salford, is desperate to get his hands on an NRL franchise and may get in via the “back door” with Balmain.
The Balmain half of the Wests Tigers joint venture is in a dire financial position.
And the word is that Balmain officials are keen to get Koukash on board in order to regain their power in the battle with Wests for control of the club.
With more financial muscle, the Wests half of the joint venture holds the whip hand at the moment - but that could all change if Koukash invests a few million dollars into the famous old Balmain black and gold strip.

My God will this never end! We're the bloody Wests Tigers! Not Balmain, not Western Suburbs - neither of which exist in the NRL anymore. For God's sake can't these old farts just let go, move on and unite as one brand new entity! I fear that this power struggle crap is going to haunt this club until its dying day :rant

If this Koukash dude wants to get his hands on an NRL club, then it's the Wests Tigers he has to invest in, not Balmain - because Balmain ain't an NRL club ARGHH!
 
just let him buy the whole joint, sick of this "regaining their power in the battle with Wests"

Flip, I know no-one wants to admit it or more likely understand it, but it will always be Western Suburbs and Balmain UNLESS someone like Koukas buys one or both of the shareholders.

When you shop at Bunnings you are actually giving money to Wesfarmers who own the Bunnings brand. Do you buy alcohol from Dan Murphy's? They're owned by Woolworths Pty Ltd.

The Wests Tigers JV (franchise?) is owned by Balmain & Western Suburbs. I know that this post will now start another round of emotional outbursts. Sorry mods.

Do you all understand that with the board the way it is:

Wests 2, Balmain 0 and NRL 3 - we will eventually get out voted if the NRL wish to do something we don't want. e.g. Move to Perth (Elias could be behind a move to do that), Become the Wests Parrots or whatever they choose - they have no allegiance to Western Suburbs, Balmain or Wests Tigers.

Nobody with sense wants Western Suburbs or Balmain to keep popping up when we all support Wests Tigers (don't we?). You can say Wests Tigers until the cows come home but it is Western Suburbs that have 2 votes and the NRL that has 3.
We need Balmain's 2 votes to swing it back in favour of the Wests Tigers.

The NRL are not doing any of this for Wests Tigers - they are doing it for the NRL.

The sooner you all get that through your thick skulls the better. We need Balmain to survive for no other reason than it swings the power back to the Wests Tigers.

Isn't that what we want folks?
We need to achieve this in any way we can - I don't want to be in a position where I have to choose another joint venture with Penrith, Parramatta or someone else. What about you?
 
Blah blah blah I'm a magpie have been for 40 yrs there dead just like balmain God rest there souls I'm a WT now and [This word has been automatically removed]ing proud of it and I am sick to death of these threads magpies v balmain they ain't coming back get over it build a bridge do something just let them ( the clubs) die gracefully

You're right Geo, what was I thinking. I was caught out in a weak moment by this know nothing knob, writing unsubstantiated sentences in an article to evoke rage. What can I say….it's Saturday and my brain's switched off.

It seems the current board have made the most "Wests Tigers friendly" decisions in our 15 year history and they've only been around one month.There is no way Balmain tigers or Western Suburbs magpies come back.Build a bridge get over it and unite as one.Not one and a half. :sign: :sign: :sign: :sign: :sign: :sign: :sign: :sign:
 
stuff could change if koukash's other bids have fallen through.

although, i suspect what may have happened is that the NRL has said. Can you wait for 4-5 months, we'll conduct our expansion review which is likely to open up 2 clubs (we just need to iron out the details and put a strategic plan in place). Once we go public, you can have a free reign on the club, probably perth, and buy it out.

Either that or negotations are taking a lot longer than previously thought.

Its an interesting post you make.It certainly makes you wonder.Although Im pretty sure we are safe just as we are(and will be improved this year on and off the field)
 
I think the boards at the best place it's ever been.Let dead dogs lie and get on with it. We have a past but our future is what counts.A Balmain v Wests board never worked and never will. If Koukash did buy ( bail out)the Balmain side he would be buying nothing but problems for himself and Wests Tigers.
