Part of Pascoe’s job is to build our brand, and there’s not much that draws more interest than drama. By coming out with those comments, he’s adding intrigue to the Thursday night blockbuster against a traditional rival. We’re in the entertainment business, and side stories like this add to the build up and will bring in more viewers, increasing tigers chances of additional free to air (read: exposure) down the track. So I’m fully supportive of his comments.

First and foremost, I don't like the bloke, what he did and how it was done shows a flaw in his character, a trait he shares with his current club. In saying that he is a freak of a player, I wish he was still here and I don't for one moment believe that he said it.

I would genuinely prefer if a player came out and talked about Matto like that. At least a player can actually back it up on the field, Pascoe is up in a corporate box giving fuel to someone he doesn’t even have to tackle. Stick to the business mate

Sounds like your issue is with Pascoe or his position rather than the actual situation and what was said

Yup. I would still be disappointed if a player went on about it but having the CEO make petty comments like that is embarrassing. He represents literally our entire club! He’s not out there making tackles either!

Pascoe sitting in his corporate box firing up our former players to play against us does not seek smart ?

Or you could look at it from the perspective that perhaps we have an administrator and leader that actually cares, is passionate and us prepared to get dirty in the trenches. He’s certainly not leading from the balcony in this instance. Good on him I say.

Do it in private. No need to make our entire club look like we are still upset about one player it’s small club mentality. When fronting the media be a CEO you’re not out there making tackles mate

I agree with the poster below.
When the Eels decide to release an offical statement to defend whatever was passed on to the media saying it was a lie, someone had to defend our honour.
I’m glad Pascoe said something he did it on behalf of the whole club.
Takes the focus off the playing group.
I don’t think I’d want the players talking politics and grudges with other players. They should just be commenting on the upcoming game.
We don’t know who leaked it to the media. Might of been an ex coach, sponsor or ex player.

Also Happy_Tiger hit the nail on the head. Take them head on and break their confidence.
Limit their good ball opportunities and really make them hurt when they run the ball.
They are a team that focuses on high energy. They started really fast last year against us. We need to grind them out of the contest for the first 30 or so.

Defend our honour? What do we need to defend? The eels called our crappy journalism not our club, just ignore them. It’s seriously a waste of time, completely unprofessional and Pascoe is lighting a fire under Matterson to come out and kill us on Thursday. I can’t wrap my head around it lol

This fake story could all be for nothing as he might not even play this week. He was originally ruled out for 2 weeks.

They’ll start writing about Moses next. Pascoe will be happy for another interview I’m sure 😂

I have always hated Parra fans ever since Taniela Tuiaki injured his leg against them in 2009. I was at the game, and when he got injured, the Parra fans booed him for going down, that he got up & walked off the field with a broken ankle, and never played in the NRL again. They are so classless, they booed Corey Norman in his first game with the Dragons, even though Norman didn't want to leave but Parra didn't want him.
I dislike 15 teams in the NRL, some more than others, but I hate Parramatta because of their fans.

I honestly believe they are the worst fans in the league. Have felt like that for the last 40 years....

They're muppets, every second year they don't watch footy at all because their team sucks.

I've said it before, if you take out the inbreds and shonky developers they have nothing.

Have tried to rape and pillage since the 90s, constantly lose their best juniors and get caught cheating every 5 years or so. They are one of the only clubs who I think have been worse than us in the NRL era.

If they don't win it this year there will be massive problems in 2021.

Fire up tigers, feed them their own eyeballs.

From my experience souffs fans are the worst. The stuff they spew out at games you would get killed in America for. Absolutely vial

Parra fans are bad but for different reasons (my best mate is a Parra fan). They’re just cocky for no reason...I mean I’d understand if they were as successful as the roosters, but they’re legit the least successful team of the last 20 years

Personally who cares if he did, his entitled to speak his mind.
The problem is someone is trying to link the comments with the timing of him walking where I don’t think his comment has anything to do with why he left.
Free country people can say whatever they like.
It’s not like he discriminated the tigers, he just stated a current fact that may or may not come true.
Pascoe has hit back at Parramattas offical statement saying that ‘Ryan Matterson did not say those words and the reason he left will remain confidential’ all he said is basically they can say what they like we know the truth.
Parramatta overreacted in the first place.

From what I read in the article Pascoe hasn't said anything wrong. He would have been asked questions on the situation and answered them by saying what every wests tiger fan, player and member has been thinking. I didn't see anywhere where he is quoted about what matterson has supossedly said. This is just media clickbait

I guess the point I’m trying to make is the first article which has the headline of Matterson saying the comment, states a tigers source has stated.. bla bla. No quotes. Anonymous .
Then Parramatta come out and release a statement saying they have are disappointed that the media has taken a persons comments and made them public without giving the club or person a right to defend those comments whilst also denying that those comments were said whilst also linking that to Mattersons departure by stating that will remain confidential.
Look, Matterson might be someone that is chronically depressed, but functions in his role. There are people out there in society that live like that so it’s possible.
Maybe parramatta released that statement on behalf of Matterson’s well being. However in a way the statement was a slight dig at the tigers saying that whoever from the tigers passed it on to the media lied about it.
Pascoe got on the front foot and said, we know what was said there was more than one person that heard it at the time but we really haven’t bothered to give it or Ryan any airtime. I don’t think it was a poor comment and I don’t think it would fire up Matterson up unless it was completely false which is what parramatta are claiming.

So you think Parra didn’t overreact buy putting an official statement out saying Matterson did not say those comments.

There’s no need for eels to release their statement but it wasn’t directed at us really was it. In both articles there are ZERO direct quotes of anyone talking about Mattersons supposed comment. It’s a click bait BS article not worth pascoes time, there’s nothing to defend lol.

Pascoe never said he knew the comment was true and multiple people heard it, there’s no direct quotes saying that.

The whole thing is pointless, there’s a rubbish article, eels respond for some stupid reason then Pascoe decides to stick his nose in it. Just dumb all around

All right then no one said nothing, it was all hearsay and all generated by the media for the sake of nothing. It’s getting too much airtime as it is. I’m sure those involved know the truth and if it was misquoting or ill informed comments there would be no reason to say anything.
There’s some bad blood between these two clubs and it’s not just on the field it seems.
Anyway let’s leave it to the field.

I can’t believe people are complaining about a bit of off field theatre anyway. Imagine if origin was kept “professional” and all the talk was kept behind closed doors. How boring

If we lose fair cop, that’s part of the game. But if we win it makes it 10x better

That’s the risk of talking smack. If you lose you look even stupider. If you win you look even better 😂

Yep. I especially hate seeing players laughing and chatting to the opppsition on the field after a loss. Shake hands, Acknowledge the fans and get into the sheds.

If/When penrith inevitably lose in the semis i can just imagine a photo of ivan blowing kisses being plastered all over the daily rag. I mean he probably set himself up for that but i'm sure he'll laugh about it later on
