I can’t believe people are complaining about a bit of off field theatre anyway. Imagine if origin was kept “professional” and all the talk was kept behind closed doors. How boring

If we lose fair cop, that’s part of the game. But if we win it makes it 10x better

Yep. I especially hate seeing players laughing and chatting to the opppsition on the field after a loss. Shake hands, Acknowledge the fans and get into the sheds.

Man Chee Kam is the worst for this kind of stuff, did you see him laughing making friends with the entire penrith team after he basically cost us the game with his awful shirt grab? compare that to blokes like aloiai and LL who were absolutely gutted

This fake story could all be for nothing as he might not even play this week. He was originally ruled out for 2 weeks.

**They’ll start writing about Moses next**. Pascoe will be happy for another interview I’m sure ?

They'd be better off waiting till Parra v Panthers for that and interviewing Ivan considering he was the one who pulled his contract.

We need to take Parramatta on in the middle and hurt them.

They have a soft underbelly in RCG, Matto, Brown etc. Apply the heat and they will melt.

is brown fit to play??? Thought he picked up an injury???

Out of all our recent players that have left I think this guy is the one that hurts the most.

I don’t think so, Brown is good for a couple weeks then he’ll get injured / suspended again

I would genuinely prefer if a player came out and talked about Matto like that. At least a player can actually back it up on the field, Pascoe is up in a corporate box giving fuel to someone he doesn’t even have to tackle. Stick to the business mate

Sounds like your issue is with Pascoe or his position rather than the actual situation and what was said

Yup. I would still be disappointed if a player went on about it but having the CEO make petty comments like that is embarrassing. He represents literally our entire club! He’s not out there making tackles either!

Pascoe sitting in his corporate box firing up our former players to play against us does not seek smart ?

Or you could look at it from the perspective that perhaps we have an administrator and leader that actually cares, is passionate and us prepared to get dirty in the trenches. He’s certainly not leading from the balcony in this instance. Good on him I say.

Do it in private. No need to make our entire club look like we are still upset about one player it’s small club mentality. When fronting the media be a CEO you’re not out there making tackles mate

I agree with the poster below.
When the Eels decide to release an offical statement to defend whatever was passed on to the media saying it was a lie, someone had to defend our honour.
I’m glad Pascoe said something he did it on behalf of the whole club.
Takes the focus off the playing group.
I don’t think I’d want the players talking politics and grudges with other players. They should just be commenting on the upcoming game.
We don’t know who leaked it to the media. Might of been an ex coach, sponsor or ex player.

Also Happy_Tiger hit the nail on the head. Take them head on and break their confidence.
Limit their good ball opportunities and really make them hurt when they run the ball.
They are a team that focuses on high energy. They started really fast last year against us. We need to grind them out of the contest for the first 30 or so.

Defend our honour? What do we need to defend? The eels called our crappy journalism not our club, just ignore them. It’s seriously a waste of time, completely unprofessional and Pascoe is lighting a fire under Matterson to come out and kill us on Thursday. I can’t wrap my head around it lol

So you think Parra didn’t overreact buy putting an official statement out saying Matterson did not say those comments.
Personally who cares if he did, his entitled to speak his mind.
The problem is someone is trying to link the comments with the timing of him walking where I don’t think his comment has anything to do with why he left.
Free country people can say whatever they like.
It’s not like he discriminated the tigers, he just stated a current fact that may or may not come true.
Pascoe has hit back at Parramattas offical statement saying that ‘Ryan Matterson did not say those words and the reason he left will remain confidential’ all he said is basically they can say what they like we know the truth.
Parramatta overreacted in the first place.

There’s no need for eels to release their statement but it wasn’t directed at us really was it. In both articles there are ZERO direct quotes of anyone talking about Mattersons supposed comment. It’s a click bait BS article not worth pascoes time, there’s nothing to defend lol.

I guess the point I’m trying to make is the first article which has the headline of Matterson saying the comment, states a tigers source has stated.. bla bla. No quotes. Anonymous .
Then Parramatta come out and release a statement saying they have are disappointed that the media has taken a persons comments and made them public without giving the club or person a right to defend those comments whilst also denying that those comments were said whilst also linking that to Mattersons departure by stating that will remain confidential.
Look, Matterson might be someone that is chronically depressed, but functions in his role. There are people out there in society that live like that so it’s possible.
Maybe parramatta released that statement on behalf of Matterson’s well being. However in a way the statement was a slight dig at the tigers saying that whoever from the tigers passed it on to the media lied about it.
Pascoe got on the front foot and said, we know what was said there was more than one person that heard it at the time but we really haven’t bothered to give it or Ryan any airtime. I don’t think it was a poor comment and I don’t think it would fire up Matterson up unless it was completely false which is what parramatta are claiming.

Pascoe never said he knew the comment was true and multiple people heard it, there’s no direct quotes saying that.

The whole thing is pointless, there’s a rubbish article, eels respond for some stupid reason then Pascoe decides to stick his nose in it. Just dumb all around

All right then no one said nothing, it was all hearsay and all generated by the media for the sake of nothing. It’s getting too much airtime as it is. I’m sure those involved know the truth and if it was misquoting or ill informed comments there would be no reason to say anything.
There’s some bad blood between these two clubs and it’s not just on the field it seems.
Anyway let’s leave it to the field.

Exactly let’s leave it to the field just like our CEO should’ve

You’ve made the same point 20 times. We get it. Why continue the debate. No way you will consider a different perspective so just move on

I'm very happy with Pascoes response. Sick of sitting in the sidelines whilst dirt bags have their way with us. Marshalls passive response is a limp wristed nothing comment which was better left unsaid. Just maybe if they drag some mongrel out and get angry they'll have a whole lot more to play for. Light the fire, and throw some God damned petrol on it. Then get out there and hammer these grubs into the turf. Maybe then we'll be taken seriously. instead of this pathetic cliche driven nice guy drivel, let's bloody we'll set the bar at a high level and clear it for a change.

Only way we'll get the last laugh on Matterson is if it's late and high. Referees are happy to let it go so may as well take advantage of it.

As a mate I used to play with would say ...."you go high on him , I'll go higher "

I really didn't like Benji's feelings on it.

I get that no one is going to come out and say what they really feel in situations like this, but he seemed very genuine for his support of Matterson.

This from a club legend.

Farah said on radio, "I like Matto, he is a good bloke, but I stand by what I said at the time, the way he left the club, and things he said were poor."
He went on to say that if he can he will be in the crowd booing him on Thursday, he said he loves the club and that made him mad that it was being disrespected.
A far better response than Benji's love fest, don't want to upset anyone response

Farah doesn’t have to play him.
Don’t be surprised that Benji is playing mind games with Matterson.
They did have a season with him and would know his personality... better option then firing him up as that’s exactly what he and parramatta would be expecting us to be doing.

The only giggles and smiles secret handshake from our blokes I want to see after the game is standing over Matteson's battered bruised and defeated body..

Why is everyone so upset by Benji's response? He's **still** a professional rugby league player and if I'm honest, the type of response some of you want would be more expected from WAGs.
I'd rather we beat em on the field (which is looking unlikely) then get into a slinging match. That would just seem petty.

Edit: think he's showing a good leadership quaility/trait - by not focusing so much on Matterson but rather the team and task at hand

Onya Robbie!!!

Robbie is Robbie and he wears his heart on his sleeve.
Matto wanted more money a bit dissapointing Marshall didnt call it for what it is but hey Marshall did the same when he left for Auckland Blues
