For Thurston, he was inadvertently brought into the saga, following the house raid of his manager Sam Ayoub, who is believed to be a catalyst in the whole saga. Ayoub, who **ironically**, is also the manager of Ryan Tandy, has denied any wrongdoing in the betting scandal. He did confirm that he placed a bet on the Cowboys scoring an early field goal, but claimed that it was an option that he bet on almost every week.

What's wrong with journalists? The word he's looking for is coincidentally. There is nothing ironic about the connection…

He should be able to take solace in the fact that if NRL.com ever punted him, he could always get a gig with Rothfield and his merry band of morons.

The other interesting fact is that brad watts, the guy who took the quick tap, is also managed by ayoub!!!

Anthony Watts. I believe Ty Williams who scored the try is managed by Ayoub as well.

Hard to imagine Ty Williams throwing a punch let alone a game.

This is a farce of monumental proportions. The betting agency offers a market on the likliehood of something happening in a game. They apparently place no upper limit on this so called 'exotic' bet? Despite the sophistication of forensic software these days, their systems don't produce a warning message for the agency's staff or management? The self proclaimed saviour here is one Glenn Munsie, who alerts his cohorts/competitors?

There is no pay out against the bets because the first score was not a penalty goal. The betting agencies have banked the punter's funds, so they 'won'. And now the Crime Commission is involved? An organisation specifically set up to deal with major crime/s and more lately terrorism? You have to be joking. This is a disgraceful use of resources by a government not wanting to upset the betting agencies. The inattention and the ineptness of these betting agencies should be under the microscope, not the possible actions of a few punters. Betting in Rugby League has been around since Adam, look up 'D.Wilson', one time Balmain hooker

You don't need to be sucessful to be charged with fraud or theft. Think of an insurance company who collects premiums and then defends a fraudulent claim. Or a bank robber arrested before they escape. If the agencies had have lost without the direct intervention of these people then no problem, bad luck. Smells like obtaining benefit by deception but we'll see what the actual charge is if one comes.

As I understand it the alarm was raised pretty early. TAB Sportbet probably had the biggest bets coming in and so its alarms were triggered first. I believe this happened some time before the game. There is no upper limit per se but any agency can reject any bet they want.

The Crime Commission (the NSW Crime Commission to be exact) was "involved" because they can hold hearings which compel witnesses to give evidence. It was a NSW Police matter - they just used the NSWCC examination powers. Happens all the time. The NSWCC were not involved in the investigation.

Exactly Yoss - as I have written previously the material success or failure of a conspiracy to defraud is not the grounds on which guilt or innocence is or should be determined!

The intent remains - and that is what the alleged protagonists will be judged on CT!

Both have just been arrested and are at Bankstown & Campsie Cop Shops respectively. NRL betting scandal related.

Go the Doggies !!!

Any one found guilty of match fixing or result altering especially players ,agents coaches or referees should get life bans No questions asked

They have now both formally been charged with attempting to defraud a number of betting agencies!!!

And Tandy has faced a further three charges of giving misleading/false evidence (taking the total to seven) - one relating to him betting on the Titans-Bulldogs game last year! He will be lucky to escape fraud charges of his own!!!

This stinks - and Parra need to stand-down Brad Murray immediately!! He has been proven to have placed a bet on the Cows game allegedly on behalf of Ayoub!!! Whether charged or not - he needs to be removed from NRL club circles for the good of the game!!!

Unless Tandy cuts a deal you'd have to think he definitely will be facing fraud charges of his own. He appears (I'm choosing my words carefully) on be a willing participant or to put it another way, he was the most pivotal player in pulling off the (alleged) scheme. In other words, if there was a conspiracy he was in up to his eyeballs.

Brad Murray is a trickier one. You'd have to prove he had knowledge of illegal activity. He's a young bloke, he could have easily been told by Ayoub to put the bet on and not benefited or known about the illegality.

I agree about Murray yoss - but aside from legal/criminal sanctions it is in the best interest of the Eels to stand him down in my opinion!

The NRL are aware he breached their own rules in regards to betting on games - so they should make a determination as the Eels lack back-bone under Osborne!

If he was innocent as you suggest may be the case - surely he would have given himself up to police when his photo was released to the media instead of being given up by his former club! He also refused to be vountarily interviewed by police until he was finally compelled to give evidence by the NSWCC!

As I said it stinks mate!

Yeah but imagine seeing all the headlines in the papers Red, the kid would have been fearing for his career which would have been fair reason for him not to present himself to the police (and I could forgive him for that IF he is innocent.)

Fair call CB - but as Ayoub's tenant this is a case of lying down with dogs!

I agree that it will be hard to argue, the circumstancial evidence is pretty condemning.

Would like to think a young bloke wouldn't throw his career away before it genuinely started though.

"It is known Tandy's manager, Sam Ayoub, placed a bet on the Cowboys penalty goal option, as did Tandy's friend Michael Cook. Parramatta halfback Brad Murray, who is also managed by Ayoub, was shown on CCTV footage placing a bet on the option as well."

Sounds guilty to me especially if they betted alot of money on that option.

We'll wait and see how things pan out but they look like theyre in big trouble to me!

I work in a building with a leading online bookie on the same floor, some of the stories they have said to me over the last 3 months has me believing this is far from over.

Ryan Tandy's contract at the Bulldogs has been terminated, effective immediately.

I understand the reasons are due to him not disclosing information to the Bulldogs when requested?
