Ryan Tandy, the player at the centre of the NRL betting scandal, has been sacked by the Bulldogs.

Canterbury officials made the decision to terminate Tandy's contract following a show cause hearing before the club's board on Wednesday, which he attended with his lawyer.

He had been stood down from playing since being charged last month with four counts of lying to a NSW Crime Commission hearing into betting on the Cowboys to score first from a penalty goal in the round 25 match against the Bulldogs.

Tandy conceded a penalty in front of his posts in the opening minutes of the game.

“The purpose of the show cause hearing was to determine whether Mr Tandy had placed a bet in relation to the Bulldogs game against the Gold Coast Titans on June 18, 2010, in which he played for the club,” Bulldogs chief executive Todd Greenberg said.

“Mr Tandy declined to answer the club's question concerning this issue, based on legal advice.

“The club formed the view that it was untenable for Mr Tandy to remain employed by the club, and continue to be paid his salary, in circumstances where he was refusing to provide information about a matter that is wholly within his knowledge and relates to duties which he expressly owes to the club.

“It is important to note that the action taken by the club today is distinct and separate from the serious criminal charges that Mr Tandy is facing.

“Mr Tandy is of course entitled to the presumption of innocence in relation to those charges.”

Interesting situation isn't it?
He has only been charged, what happens if he is cleared of those charges in court?
I bet he would have an unfair dismissal case against the Dogs.

I understand the reasons are due to him not disclosing information to the Bulldogs when requested?

That is also the basis of his 4 charges CB!!!!

Lies or non-disclosure!!

pfffft - and I know industrial/HR law mate!!!!!

He has nothing to fall back on after this (including a playing career - no-one will EVER touch him again!!!!)

Has anyone else read on SMH-online how former Tiger Jai Ayoub (Sam's son) and Anthony Serratore (Jai's best mate from high school - alongside Parra's Brad Murray) have all been identified as placing bets on the option at question??????

This does not just stink - it reeks!!!!!!

Correct, they asked him about whether or not he betted on the Dogs/Titans game last year, and he declined to answer them. If by some miracle he is found not guilty I still think it is career over, as no team will touch him and rightly so.

As a result he was summarily dismissed under IR Law & the Bulldogs have zero liability for his terminated contract!
