Sack Marshall

Anyone surprised at Galvin wanting to leave?

So we saw Bateman, Klemmer and Paps recruited along with Naden, etc.
Now we start pushing out some lower performers. Galvin can read the writing on the wall "hey your name isn't on the list, this year... but it may be next year.".

No one wants to be last. But come last and make your team a flight deck, Everyone is going to want to leave.

It's getting clearer. We have a coach that players don't or no longer trusts, nor wants to play for.

The fact that everyone knows that Benji is still learning the trade makes it even worse. Seriously, who would listen to an apprentice at a professional job? They might at the start...and now just pretends to.

I couldn't believe it when this joint offered an apprentice the top job. I was hoping for a miracle but reality sucks. Still hoping as I have no choice. I bleed tigers.

I honestly think the Fiji trip was the last straw. I would be blowing up too if my coach went on holiday when all I wanted to do is for our team to practice and win games. So, I can't really blame Gavin for having a sook at his age, at least it shows he really wants to win and does try hard unlike Stef. Not everyone is Api unfortunately...

I love Benji to death as a player too. But not as a coach, he needs a few years at least. He hasn't even coached a KOE team before ffs.

When was the last time we actually had a good coach? Ivan is properly the only one but sadly, his heart has always been with his son. Spewing we didn't get Shane Flanagan....

I'd say use the big money to lure a good coach instead of players. Focus on the head first and work our way down. A good coach will know how to recruit and use players to their potential.

Don't think Benji is our man....i had hopes, but that Fiji holiday followed by the flogging is really starting to paint the picture. I can only imagine the players at training, wanting to train hard, wanting to build combinations and then Benji goes "sorry guys, I really need to go, need to get home by 5pm, we will try this again tomorrow"

Full context of Zoe's quotes. Please note the quote seems to be a combined excerpt from various articles spanning different times and contexts.

This is what was described as bizarre:
Footy WAG Zoe Marshall hits back at trolls who questioned the state of her marriage to Benji and accused her of 'spending more time' with fashion designer Steven Khalid.

In relation to her joyful comment:
Rumours that Benji wasn't pulling his weight at the rugby league club circulated in March, but he hit back and insisted he is the 'first in the building' before training every day.

He told how he 'prioritises his family between 5-8pm every night to find a 'work life balance', with Wests Tigers boss Shane Richardson saying his commitment to his job and his family should be admired.

She told the Daily Telegraph: 'He was this poster boy for working dads. It's strange for somebody to work an 11-hour day and then be berated for existing and feeding the family unit – because what is the expectation?'

'How do you think he's going to be the best coach he can be if he's not joyful or fulfilled or connected? It's bananas,' she added.

I really don’t need to hear about his home life. Quite frankly, I couldn’t care less. Sure, I want him to be happy, but I don’t need to know the ins and outs or what time of day he puts family first. I’ve never heard another coach talking about balancing his home life, from their professional. Most will tell you it’s a 24 hour job anyway. Not saying he has to say that, but just enjoy your time with your family on the down low. Doesn’t really need to be promoted. Especially when we are in the position we are in. Of course he’s gonna cop it.

It was clearly a West Tigers thing to do to appoint Benji as head coach, always though it was just plain stupid. However, its would probably be just as bad to sack Benji after only half a year, we'd look even more the basket case. I think we need too get him help though, he needs someone else apart from Morris, doesn't have to be a first grade coach, but an assistance coach with a few years experience (especially in attack).

Thanks Lauren. I thought it was a reaction to the Fiji trip. I shouldn't have called her Candice

At least someone is joyful
Coz she got a big Sunday spread about her traumatic life, AGAIN. Not saying she didn’t suffer but how many times can that story be told.
A lot of wives would say, we’re here for you so go and do what you’ve got to do.
Or is that old fashioned now ?
Instead, be here between 5 and 8 pm and soon as the bye comes up we need a holiday.
The answers probably somewhere in the middle !

Gavin: Please coach, I really want to get that combination right

Benji: Just wait till I come back from my holiday

Gavin: Can we at least stay back today then

Benji: Mate, I need to be home by 5
Idk how many people have seen the Metallica Doco Some Kind of Monster, but it reminds me of James Hetfield only being able to work between 12 and 4. There is a scene where they are in the studio and someone says “By the way it’s a quarter to 4”, and Hetfield says “I gotta go guys, sorry”. Can just imagine a team meeting or video session going long and someone reminding Benji of the time and he’s like “Sorry guys, I gotta go home and tickle the ivories”.

Gibson also said..”talent is secondary to whether players are confident.”
Our players can play footy, but for whatever reason they are short on confidence. Now that may seem like a throwaway line , but think about it for a moment?
It could be as simple as contracting those with leadership qualities and nurturing those qualities.
I remember seeing an interview with Madge very early days and there was mention of this and the need for captain material within not only the squad but juniors aswell

It doesn't look good for Benji as a coach. Funny thing is after 3 rounds he apparently could coach having won 2 from 3. Then something happened, players started to get suspended, injuries started to bite and Wests Tigers were exposed for the total lack of depth in the club, especially reserve grade.
Is there anyone who really thinks when the injuries came the team coming last in the reserve grade was going to be able to supply 1st grade ready replacements?
In all honesty, the result against the Dragons was not a surprise at all given the team that was named. A quick look at the thread with the official team for that game has lots of comments like "good cup side, when do they name the first grade". The scoreline itself was most disappointing.

I think Richo has said many times he doesn't know if Benji is going to be a good coach or not, but he will get him the players and we will find out. Until or even if that happens, we will never really know.

It’s not that we expect to win with our current lack of depth but its the nature of the capitulation lately by the team and some openly agitating for release that pees me off. That seems to indicate that having a rookie coach cannot keep this in check and now this becomes a snowball effect.
