Sack Marshall

The problem is the coach is not coaching the players on how to solve any deficiencies they may have. That is what coaches are suppose to do.
Top coaches get results with average players who then become better players and some representative players. Our coach does not have thjs capacity as has been evident in 3 months of preseason and 13 rounds. There comes a time where we have to accept that major an error was made in appointing a rookie coach with no experience and hoping to revive this club.
Disagree. Myself and others predicted the season to go this way before a ball was kicked. NRL is not a place to learn the basics of rugby league. That’s what pathways are for.

Are you saying you expected us to win only 2 games this season and possibly 20 losses on the trot. If so, you need treatment as does anyone else that would accept that as a supporter.

I predicted the season to be over by the second Dolphins game based on our roster. It’s not about accepting anything but the reality of how far we got screwed by prior management.

I did not anticipate anything like this season nor would most supporters. If previous managment put Benji in charge, the current management are duty bound to remove him before club total disappears any gets its licence removed as we are not competitive and and embarrassment in the NRL.

Let’s think this logically.

What are the odds of Benji taking us to the top 8,4 in the next three years

I reckon it’s a fairytale and hopeful dream

Reality is probably 25% he can get us to top 8

And 7.5% top 4.

Just my opinion

I wish you were right but highly doubt it. Look at the Dogs. They are just in the 8 with a top roster and good coach & Gus., 2 yers on.
We will not have such a roster any time soon or ever.

Yeah agree I was trying to be realistic but still hopeful lol

I reckon top 8 would be more like 7.5%.

Top 4 - 2%.

Premiership 500/1

Wonder if this is Richos biggest job yet…

I know he says south’s was but idk…

He got Russel Crowe on board

We have no genuine celebs or high profile business peops

Gus knows how to build a squad. The reason Ciraldo is going better this year is because of the depth of the squad that Gus has recruited. The difference they have made is blatant for all to see. Treacy was always a FG player stuck in ressies at Cronulla. Crichton is marquee. Add Salmon, Curran,Xerri, Taffe, Sexton, Hutchison, all seasoned FG ers and the form of Mahoney, Burton, Kikau, and JAC has benefited. And then an injection of some new young players ie Blake Wilson and they are looking top 8.
Love him or hate him he is the best administrator in the game and worth what ever he is getting paid
All those players you mentioned would easily be described as plodding nuffies if they weren't winng... But they are winning & playing a good brand of footy

Interesting to hear the Panthers defensive systems were all down to Ciraldo and the next few years it will only improve at the Dogs

What did you anticipate?

ROFL - remove the license, that’s one of the dumbest things said on this place.

Another member with 20/20 vision in hind sight! You anticipated a wooden spoon with 2 wins and record consecutive losses. Please.
You have very low expectations of your team.

Without a doubt I reckon it is.
The Tigers represents a huge challenge.
I only recently found out that Stapleton was head of recruitment and retention. He would be the same person who appraises the performance of the coach. Pleased to see that Rich has sacked the recruitment guy and taken that responsibility from Stapleton.
Just another example of how messed up the organisation is/was.

All were smart buys from good systems and all blocked from FG because of strong rosters apart from Xerri. They have made a significant difference to a team that had invested in some talent but was camped in the bottom of the comp with the same coach.
It was smart recruitment and has given the coach a decent roster to work with the results speak for themselves. Burton JAC and Mahoney having great seasons after a couple of average ones, and Crichton would make a difference to any team he played for. Any coach success goes hand in hand with the roster he has to work with and his team this year has been significantly bolsted by all those players who have all mostly maintained their position in the side.

In 2025 the Tigers will just miss the 8, Luai, Latu, Turuva, Bula, Api, Sam Fainu, Pole a few young gems and hopefully some more experienced signings hopefully forwards. 2026 onwards the TIgers will be a regular finals side due to youth and spine playing together longer. This year is about weeding out the crap and giving some juniors a sniff before introducing the greatest signing this club will ever have Luai, a winner and will drive the standards.

This is not the right time to sack Benji - what message does it send and what are the indicators that his coaching is poor? Look at the roster - there is little FG level talent in the team. Sacking Benji mid season isn't going to change the roster. Explain what coaching changes could be made mid season that will improve the roster and how would it happen?

Even with Benji's threatened roster change what do we get? Same shit shuffled due to injuries. What incoming coach is goining to turn players in our reserve grade side - getting lapped week in week out - into first graders?

Get real - this isn't a play station game where you can change player attributes by purchasing credits. This is yet another ground up rebuild - if you want to see what it potentially looks like check out the dogs; who are in front of us roster development by around 12 months or so.

Kikau, Burton and Mahoney didn't make instant changes, but add a marquee player and a few with first grade qualities but stuck behind otheres in a system and the improvements start. Ciraldo was labelled as a failure last year and plenty of Dogs supportes wanted him gone. Sound familiar?

Reality is that it will take time.

If you are struggling with it - mix half a cup of reality with 3/4 a cup of portland type A or find another team to support. If the output of the Tigers is affecting you greatly please seek professional help. Followong a sporting team is a distraction - it is not life.

Tigers do things differently to the Bulldogs. While the comparison is credible it’s also meaningless.
We may be looking at the Benji appointment wrongly?
What if it’s not necessarily about winning? Especially in the short term?
What if Benji’s appointment is more symbolic? An effort to change the club’s brand, more so than onfield success?

You may be right, only those in the inner sanctum of the club will know what the plan is. However, I'm pretty sure that it involves developing a system to be a successful club. That involves winning games on the football side of the house and bringing in $ for HBG on the other side of it. Richo's success will be tied to the success of the football team as the corporate $ won't come in if we continue to languish at the bottom of the ladder.

Richo has already come out and said that we are where he expected us to be given the roster we have. We have a simple game plan that isn't being executed - is that on the coach or the players?

Using the Dogs as a comparision is not about trying to compare rosters, coaching styles or the difference between the way things are done. What it does demonstrate is:
  • Dogs performance was on par with ours.
  • Dogs sign a proven administrator in Gus - we sign a proven administrator but later in the timeline.
  • Dogs signed a bunch of quality players and a new (but experienced coach) but performance does not improve - we sign Api, Papalii, Klemmer, unearth Bula, sign Olam and appoint Benji - no change.
  • Dogs have heaps of internal dramas as culture is addressed; fans and the media label Ciraldo as a dud and want him sacked - Tigers fans and media call for Benjis head.
  • Dogs sign a bunch of fringe FG quality players from other clubs and add a couple of top tier players - currently sitting in the top eight. Tigers make it clear they are going to offload a buch of deadwood and embark on a mid year recruiting raid of the UK. Tigers sign a marquee half and a quality centre/wing.
While the clubs do things differently it is clear that they are taking the same steps towards improvement. So I would argue that the comparison is both credible and meaningful. Is winning this year importaint? Probably not. Is setting the conditions for success important - you can bet your arse it is. I trust that you can see the similarities.

Good post Jolls. I was thinking more in terms of time frame similarities. But youre right about the intentions of the changes.
