Sack Sheens Thread

The latest doing the rounds is that sheens is gone and Michael hagan is coming. Might be a good thing

That would be good,as a former half he would know Benji ain't no 7,a fresh face and voice would lift those who want to,and the rest can go.

If wests were really going to have a shot at CB then it would be better to keep sheens on for next year. I could handle another year of sheens if the payoff was Bellamy in '14\. It would be extremely disrupt-full if we had 3 coaches in 3 years. If wests hire a new coach for next season than IMO we are no chance of getting some melbourne gold ( no idea if we are a chance anyways ). Imagine we get CB and some of the talent down there has daddy figure issues like Bennett/darius sheens/Marshall…we could score some internationals. But after watching last night I'm sure the brains trust at camp concord will keeps sheens and than hire Jason Taylor or someone else as equally underwhelming. Sigh.

Unless we get a coach that 'commands' control of the Football Operations, the next coach will be on a hiding to nothing with our 3 board set-up… I'd go as far as to say we are no chance of actually getting a high profile coach after the Sheens era, as the internal boards will want to exercise more control. (something they have not had for years).

As a result, a Jason Taylor or Jim Dymock are probably high on the list, but wouldnt last a full season before personal agendas ensured they were punted!

It could be a long wait for more Premiership Glory!!!

According to the SMH this morning the club wouldn't stand in the way if Sheens wanted to leave the club before his contract expires. In WT language "We don't really want you anymore but we're not going to pay out your contract to get rid of you."

Meanwhile, it is possible the Wests Tigers coach, Tim Sheens, could make a shock switch to the Warriors next season. Sheens is contracted to the Tigers until the end of 2014, but the club would consider releasing him if he wished.

Tigers chief executive Stephen Humphreys addressed rumours Sheens was on the way out. ''Tim is our head coach, we continue to believe that he's the best man for the job and that's really the end of it,'' Humphreys told Ten Network's The Game Plan program last night. ''The fact that we didn't meet expectations this year is something we need to take stock of. But rather than apportion blame and find someone to shoot to make us feel better, we're not going to take that path.''

I'm a bit confused about how the club plans to improve the performance of the team based on the last paragraph above, ok no need necessarily to blame people if that's the approach being taken but by the same token it would be handy to identify the problems and weaknesses and work out ways to improve them, this would mean looking at the performance of all individuals involved in preparing the team, it doesn't necessarily mean someone has to be 'shot'.

I think we have had a tough year with injuries but do agree that sheens' time is up. I always believed that this was his lat contract before his retirement but he really needs to go. I also heard rumours that should Sheens' leave that Nathan Brown would possibly get the job. He only missed the final twice in his coaching career at saints and got them to the finals in 08 with a pretty ordinary team.

I do remember hearing that Benji Marshall had a get out clause should sheens leave the club and if he were to go to the Warriors that Marshall would follow. Is that a risk the Tigers are willing to take?

Benji dosnt have a get out clause and his future wife I think is contracted to one of the networks. So I cant see him going anywhere but if he did it would not be the end of the world. For a good player he has plenty of bad days

If Benji goes to NZ he would not be able to continue promoting himself & pick up the easy dollars on the channel 9 Footy Show. Brand Benji would sink further than it already has. Out of sight, out of mind.
Sheens has not only lost the dressing room, he has lost the plot!
Will be beneficial for everyone if the Sheens, Benji, Robbie circus is finally broken up.
In a few years Benji & Robbie will be gone anyway so lets hope a new coach can come in & inspire them to drag the team into a new, winning era.

Farah showed this year how important he is to the team, Benji Iam not so sure, I get the feeling Anasta might be able to do most things Benji can do without to much of the bad stuff. Although it has to be noted without Benji we would have scored about ten trys this year

Some interesting statistics…

For the 10 years from 2003, each team have made the finals on the following number of occasions –
1\. Melbourne – 9
2\. Brisbane – 9
3\. Manly – 8
4\. St George Illawarra – 7
5\. Canberra – 6
6\. Canterbury – 6
7\. New Zealand – 5
8\. North Queensland – 5
9\. Sydney Roosters – 4
10\. Parramatta – 4
11\. Newcastle – 4
12\. Penrith – 3
13\. Cronulla – 3
14\. Wests Tigers – 3
15\. Gold Coast – 2 (From 6 seasons)
16\. South Sydney – 2

These results are kind of embarrassing for Tim Sheens and the Wests Tigers board when 50% of the teams make the finals each year… Correct me if I am wrong, but 2 of those 3 years the Tigers made the finals were the 2 years with Steve Folkes as a defensive coach…

Prior to his time at the Tigers, Tim Sheens coached the Cowboys to several years of not making the finals as well…

All of the teams with similar levels of performance, Penrith, Cronulla, Parramatta, Roosters, South’s have all sacked coaches during periods of poor performance… We just make excuses…

It is a joke that he is still at the club…

Bit much blaming him for 2003-2004… The 2003 team in particular was building from the rabble that Terry Lamb left behind. So 3 from 8 is better, not great.

Oh another interesting statistic - From 2005-2011 only 4 coaches have won a Grand Final - Des Hasler, Wayne Bennett, Craig Bellamy, and Tim Sheens.

FWIW I think it's time for him to move on.

hearing Sheens sacked this week with N.Brown as his replacement, then Sheens with be going to Warriors I hope it's wrong

Unless Harry is paying for it, Sheens either walks voluntarily or stays. I don't see the club paying out his contract. Brown would be an okay coach - his record in the UK seems pretty solid - plus if that kid from the NYC makes into first grade he can pick himself every week… You wouldn't know if he was talking about himself in the 3rd person or about the player ("Nathan Brown is very important to this team. Nathan Brown knows that").

If the Tigers wanted to force him out I'm sure they could

Appoint a co head coach ,change his coaching structure , take his overall control of the team away in small ways

If nothing happens within the next 6 weeks , nothing is going to happen at all and we are stuck with him imo

That's it. If nothing happens by the the week after the grand final i'd say nothing will happen at all. Plans for pre season and what not need to be finalised. Would make no sense to sack a coach after finalizing those plans would it?

My gut feeling is Sheens will stay. Many factors for why it will happen. Not the least because we can't afford to pay him out and then have to pay a new coach. I also think it will be noted that Sheens made some bad calls with recruitment this season and that so long as those areas are addressed and upgraded, the board will give him another shot. I don't necessarily agree with it but you can bet they won't be so kind should it happen again 2013\. I also think the lack of a quality coach being available might save him this time around.
