Sack Sheens Thread

Benji dosnt have a get out clause and his future wife I think is contracted to one of the networks. So I cant see him going anywhere but if he did it would not be the end of the world. For a good player he has plenty of bad days

More bad days than good this year IMO

Okay. Interesting. He's back in Oz full time? So nobody has even talked to him yet?

I don't expect that he would freely admit to it. These things are best done behind closed doors to maintain some degree of credibility.

Reading posts and participating in this forum it's hard to get a balance between the passion of being a supporter and wanting the best for our Team and the impact we can have on people.

I was at LO for the last game against the Storm and immediately noticed for the first time in a long time that Sheens was not sitting on the sideline and was up in the top of the stand where most coaches sit. This could have been because of a tactical reason but I think it was more from fear of abuse than tactical reasons.

It' s easy to forget that we have an impact on people who despite their perceived short comings really have had a passion for the Tigers and tried their best to deliver the results that everyone wants. By everyone I mean members, supporters, family members of players/ coaches.

Personally, I have never doubted his passion & belief in the club and it's players & support staff and his dedication to try and get the best result possible .

The issue is that a coach's ability to get the best result from players & support staff diminishes over time and when a club becomes a 'family' it is hard to make the hard decisions when someone under performs. If you look at the Sheens/Benji relationship it seems to be a good example. This makes it's hard to see the forrest for the trees and impacts your decision making. Anyone that has a 'family' should know what I mean. With few exceptions like Bennett & Bellamy it is hard to keep players motivated for 10 years plus unless you are in a one Team/region state.

The real problem I see is with the CEO & Board as they should have realized this last year and made the tough decision then and not prolonged the agony . These signs were there before the big penrith offer but they chose to support Sheens with a new 3 year deal and then when the 2012 disaster happened, despite what Humphreys said on the Game Plan will now try and put all the blame on Sheens and walk away.

Whilst I like everyone else think it is time for Sheens to move on I don't think it's because he doesn't care or didn't try his best and we individually & collectively should show him some respect for the people he has developed And the significant contribution he has made to the Tigers over the past 10 years.

As much as I admire Sheens for what he delivered in 2005…I think he has himself to blame....The game has changed significantly over the last 5 years..gone are the days when a team full of utility players offered coverage in many positions....the game has become very structured since 2005 and players need to really understand their role in the team both in Attack and Defense...Our players are confused - simple as that. They play 3 or 4 different positions throughout the year...and become "jack of all trades master of none"...you can't run a team like that anymore...and this is why we have failed so miserably this year....to illustrate my point:

Farah: hooker and half
Fulton: Hooker, five eighth, centre, 2nd row and lock.
Blair: Prop and 2nd row
Bell: 2nd row and lock.
Marshall: Halfback and five eight
Moltzen: Halfback, five eighth, fullback.
Lawrence: centre, five eight
Ayhsford: centre, five eight, lock.
Ryan: fullback, centre, lock, fullback, wing
Reddy: Centre, Wing, fullback

only the props seemed to survive the position merry go around....no other team in the comp plays their players in so many different positions like Sheens does....

Sometimes you need to be told….need to be pushed.

You think youre doing your best, but it can dwindle and become not the best.

They call it a wake up call, or an intervention, a "HELLO???"

Im sure hes doing his best, but the fact is we need more than he has, the thing is I think most are aware hes smart enough to know all this, (you dont last as long as he has without some smarts) and its not ignorance or unawareness holding him back, preventing him from putting his hand up & calling 'IT's TIME!'
...its stubborness, and/or ego

Sorry to say Sheens must go i have supported him for the last few seasons but i think it is time to move on . If he stays we all know we will get the same core of players who have not preformed and not up to nrl standed next season nothing will change he has his mind set on certain players as bad as they play week in week out they don't get droped they move to another position with the same results. This rubbish has been going on since 05, we all know who these guys are it is about time Sheens gets the message he cannot be that thick or can he.

We need a fresh approach.
I will happily see him move on but I'll pay him the respect he deserves for what he has done whilst he has been here.

How is it the current Australian coach has only signed 1 international in his time as coach, and a Kiwi at that. Outside of our club, he has no pulling power. Players are not really drawn in by him. Usually Australian and origin coaches attract players, not Timmy. Just another reason to give it away.

This is very valid point. While we seem to be the destination for expensive superannuants like Tuqiri and Anasta, revitalized older players like Utai, journeymen like Bell, Humble and Reddy, we haven't, apart from Blair, signed a fair dinkum marquee player in ten years. The excuse is always salary cap pressures, yet it may well be that players don't particularly want to play under Tim Sheens

Short memories…I call Ellis a marquee player wouldn't you?

The criticism in this thread is all very valid, re actual facts and figures, criticisms of decisions etc….

Maybe the op meant how some ppl seem to be making the issue personal. Abusing anyone anonymously on the Internet makes you no better than the grub on twitter that everyone wants to lynch.

For the record I agree that the time for a new voice came a little while ago, in my heart I would love to see sheens and co prove ppl wrong but I don't know if it's possible or that a professional organisation should be gambling with something that unlikely.

My .02

All these criticisms are valid, and due. Our record is good, not great. But I think that this season has been a turning point in the whole club regarding the pressures put on from the weight of expectation.

"This is the recession we had to have".

I think the man deserves to lick his wounds and see out his contract, here is a real opportunity for Sheens and the Tigers to evolve. If he can't get it right here he should consider retirement. If the playing group really do respect him they'll pull it out. This is the time when we should be supporting them the most because vindication is a powerful driving force, and this team is Sheens' team, in 2015 it'll be a completely different team again.

I'm going to whack $100 on the Tigers to win in 2013.

If Sheens is still coach you will get good odds

At least $21 I'd reckon
