G'day Forum I'm new to forum
I have some thoughts on the salary anomalies such as the Wighton contract
I know what I'm about to suggest has been brought up before but I think it should be raised again
My system is
Each club will have 150 points
Allocation of points are
10 points...Tier 1 international's over last 3 yrs ...max 3
9 points... Origin over last 3 yrs ....max3
8 points ...Tier 2 Internationals over last 3 yrs ..max 2
5 points...50+ NRL or Super League imports over 3 yrs
4 points....50+ local players
1 point .... pathway players
0 points.. 10 yr clubman
Starting date November 1
Clubs would have 2 yrs to bring their
Teams to comply

There are far too many vested interests in the game who would be against it especially the current top clubs who will allow nothing to change so they don't to either get weaker or give the opportunity for other clubs to catch up.The idea is fine but the reality of the situation is there is no chance of adjustment to that level happening.
As much as we all would like to see a fair competition i doubt if the people who make the decisions do

Welc to the forum Mando

We all know that the Current Salary cap is not able to be policed.

Welcome to the forum. Good post. The N.R.L need to sit down with all the clubs at a meeting set up to discuss clubs issues and ides for the spreading evenly of talent. Then take all the feedback and formulate something out of it.

There’s no way teams would be able to keep up.

You could be under the cap at the beginning of the year, then have multiple players rewarded for having a really good season (say they are picked for Tonga/Samoa/NZ/England) and end up over the cap by seasons end.

Oliver Gildart would be worth 10 points under this system…Adam Reynolds would be worth 5 points. How would the game justify this to the fans?

Gday Mando,i like the idea ,much similiar 2 yours were the nrl put a nominal value on a player,if they choose to go else were,2 win a comp, the average is taken from their salary cap.Jim Beam cup (what ever they call it these days ) is run that way from day dot, still doesnt even out .if management is incompetent ,management remains incompetent,Salary cap will only work with a draft,as a worker i would never endorse it,

The particular points system detailed by the op can’t work for reasons already posted, however some form of this needs to be employed.
The shit clubs have no depth.
depth, hope ,or idea,is the answer [This word has been automatically removed] it out to go global,i think not,but if we have a system were the top 6 is locked in b4 a ball is kicked the game will die on the vine, lets not get started on how they tinker every year with the rules, stear away from the essence of the game, just need to keep it simple n brutal.SIMPLES

Year to Year would be hard for teams such as Penrith 2 years ago when they had a lot rise to the top. You would most likely have a lot of roosters opting out of representing

I had the same thought. Perhaps the rules could only be enforced whilst players are off contract, for example if Brooksy wasn’t an origin player when he signed his contract but in year 2 of his 5 year contract he made the Blues side his points only become countable when he was off contract and the club would then have to make changes to not sign him for a new contract or move on someone else to keep under the points. (See what I did there 😂)

Something certainly needs to be done to restrict too many elite players being at the one club, although I am certain South’s signing Jack Wighton will not help them win a premiership anytime soon.
My thoughts are I could not care less who clubs have as their starting 13, it’s when they have quality outside of their starting 13 that could be influential players at struggling clubs that irritates me.
I believe this can be prevented by having a Transfer Window in May and December which works like this;

Each NRL club from first place down selects and locks in their top 13, however each club has the right to leave some positions within their top 13 blank and able to sign players not listed in any other clubs top 13
Once done and every club has locked in their top 13 including any blank selections, the bottom placed club can sign any one player not currently listed into their top 13 line up.
This would be done as one opportunity per club from bottom placed up until every club has their top 13 locked in.
Once this is done repeat the same process with players 14-17.
Once this is done repeat the same process with players 18-30.
100% guarantee this would even up the competition, it would allow struggling clubs to regularly sign good quality players in positions they need to strengthen their roster and would show naive players exactly where they are in the pecking order at their current club.
It would allow players who are stuck getting limited game time off the bench or those stuck in reserve grade but could be valuable starting players at other clubs the opportunity to move to a rival club as a valued starting 13 player.
