Sam Burgess

Didn't Richo himself say that NRL would not be coughing up to bring back Burgess? Have they even finalised their centralised Marquee grant system anyway?

I'm totally in favour of the NRL's marquee plan, and it was something I emailed them about maybe 10 years ago; not at all suggesting they listened to me, but that it's an idea mooted for a long time.

Rugby and cricket have centralised contracts for the biggest players and NRL should not be any different.

EXCEPT that the money should be shared around. I'm not sure how this current marquee plan works, but if Rabbits benefit from NRL funding part of Burgess, Tigers deserve equal funds. In other words, NRL should supply a fixed, salary cap-independent amount that each team can spend on their "most marquee" player (likely to be the most expensive).

In this manner, teams can afford to keep one superstar with the NRL's assistance, but no specific team can horde the stars.

I cannot find online any specific details of the NRL's central-marquee plan. The current salary cap page only speaks of marquee payments from club sponsors.

I agree the NRL Marquee player top up is a good thing however I don't believe the player who is virtually being paid by the NRL should choose where he plays - he walked away and now wants to come back on more money forked out by the NRL - players coming back that are being topped up by the NRL should go in to a draft situation where all clubs have an opportunity to gain his services. If he only wants to play for Souffs then let them foot the bill and shed as many players as they have to fit him in.

The Pride Of The League get gifted an awesome player. Probably free of charge. Yep, the NRL certainly is a level playing field. Great to see him in our game as he is great to watch but surely the whole deal reeks of brown paper bags? Glory glory to Jimmy Packer .

To be fair to Souths they have lost Issac Luke who would have been on good coin and Glenn Stewart who replaced Sam.

The discussion is that they are looking to let go McQueen and Dylan Walker - those 4 should more then cover Burgess given they haven't signed anyone new of note and didn't last year other then Stewart and TIm Grant (who despite being ex origin was playing NSW Cup)

McQueen I can understand, but why on earth would they want to let Walker go? He's the only strike centre they've got! Surely they could find someone a bit less valuable to shed. That said, I'd have both of them here in a heartbeat - I know… I'm dreaming

Keep dreaming that sweet dream Flip. Some dreams do come true…Eventually!

Oh, boy. Here we go again. The media and commentators will turn this into a love fest in 2016\. South Sydney, Burgess bros. and mum united again. :blah
Can't wait…

Burgess = overrated bum.

Burgess is a gun. Dylan Walker = overrated bum. Can't understand the love for Walker, he is average .

Walker was average in 2015 but prior form had him on the cusp of origin. Was a knee injury I think has never been confident striding out since.

Ha, you'd think this is the reason why Farah wasn't snapped up by them.

The reason Farah hasn't been snapped up is nobody wants him.

As for this news it will be a wankfest on channel nein next year. I think I'll be tuning out.

Either Macqueen or walker would be nice pick ups. C'mon Farah, just beat it so we can make s play at them.

Good player. Souths will be a lot more dangerous with the big fella back on deck. Robbie seemingly wants to stay as is his right so that's pretty much that!

Get back behind your keyboard and dream that you could ever achieve anything that anyone might recognise.

Take your own advice Ck.

Never said he wasn't a good player - it's my opinion he is way overrated and over hyped.
Also wasn't a rant about about his personality , or calling him 'a cancer' which prompted me to write the piece you quoted .
Slightly different context - and unfortunately I have more to do in life than to trawl back through every thread trying to find where I might have written it originally.
Some people obviously don't.
