Save Our Sides Protest Rally - SUN 05FEB11

Thank god commonsense will prevail in 2013… Humphries is an astute operator and looks to have this club on the right track to be a successful NRL Franchise for the future.

Adding another premiership trophy to the cabinet will inspire all those young kids out West!

Agree wholeheartedly, the sooner this nonsense is put to bed once and for all, the better.

Bit over this as well. In my opinion tho if wt want to base themselves out of concord that's ok. But they should not then have the right to claim the campbelltown junior league. Cue Todd Greenberg. The dogs have always wanted the dodge league.

It's only going to make our team, the wests tigers, stronger. Great move in my opinion.

Wests shoud just reduce their budget and field a side in NSW anyway.

I do hope that the state cup team is rebadged 'wests tigers', otherwise it's a little unfair.

From the Telegraph…...
"In my opinion Wests Balmain and Wests Tigers spend an inordinate amount of time, money and effort on the NSW Cup, and I believe we'd all be far better off if some of that time, effort and money was redirected into the junior leagues and junior development programs," he (Humphreys) said.

"I've expressed that view to the Wests Tigers directors."

Western Suburbs Magpies will maintain an identity in the junior representative competitions but cease to exist at senior level.

Let me get this right, the Wests Tigers are trying to pump approximately $1 million dollars into junior leagues
and junior development programs and you guys appose this???

Looking at the rally demands and correct me please if I'm wrong.

_- Wests Tigers need a greater presense in the area. Plans need to be in place for a full time relocation of their HQ to the region as was the original plan back when the joint venture was formed._ By culling the Wests and Balmain NSW cup teams the Wests Tigers will be able to ensure a greater presence in both districts with the money they are reporting to inject into both junior leagues. To me that screams nothing but good for both districts.

- _We need a fully funded NSW Cup side to provide a stepping stone for our kids to NRL_ That is exactly what the NYC is designed for. State Cup is for glorified park footballers who just dont have what it takes to make that transition from NYC to NRL. There might be the odd player here and there that gets called up but the trend these days is players go from NYC to NRL.

- _We need professionally run District Competition for the Wests Junior district area._ Is WSDJRL a professional outfit? If not, then why has the WSDRLFC allowed the same person to run their junior leagues since before the Wests and Balmain merger??

- _Teams need to be able to train and play on grounds of their own choosing_ Isn't ground availability a council issue?

- _More than 4 NRL games a year at Campbelltown Stadium_ To be able to compensate that, Wests Tigers would have to ditch the SFS deal. You dont have to be a mathematical genius to work out that no goes at SFS means no guaranteed revenue and less money for junior league programs that everyone wants.

- _More junior development programs for our kids_ By having one team in the NSW cup would mean more money for junior development programs. It's not difficult to understand the concept.

The way I see it is that having one team as the Wests Tigers in the NSW cup is by far and away the most logical solution to the long term future of the Wests Tigers. The only people with this agenda of holding onto Western Suburbs Magpies are the ones who want to sit on the hill at Campbelltown and yell out "Caaaaaaarn The Maggies" while they close their eyes and imagine they were back at Lidcomb Oval or Orana Park. Those days are over. The sooner Balmain and Wests are gone from NSW cup the better we'll be. No kid these days grow up dreaming of playing for Wests or Balmain. They all want to be like Benji Marshall and play for Wests Tigers.

I'm glad that Humpty has finally opened up about the intentions of the WT's, It's a little hard to argue with common sense. It seems that if Ashfield were prepared to continue the support, There wouldn't be an issue!!
All passion aside, For the clubs it's all about what they will get out of their investment… I feel for the Maggie Diehards, But investing in a deceased brand really can't be a viable option for them.
I've said it all along, The only way forward is one system, one brand and one plan of attack.
I find comfort knowing that we are in such a strong position as a united driving force that my kids and thier kids should all be enjoying our team for many years to come!!

Campbelltown Council charges close to $2000 a game for the NSW Cup matches, and $20,000 a game for the Wests Tigers.

$20,000 per game for the Tigers? That is a bargain given the facilities.

Manly pays $350k per annum to Warringah Council for the right to play at the worst ground in the NRL a maximum of 12 games.

Hopefully a structured plan of attack on how the increased funding will be put in place within the junior leagues will be available soon to the clubs in the area. This would serve to alay some concerns of parents n that league

Fair point Gaz… As a point of interest, How do the average crowd numbers stack up for each Ground over the past couple years.

… Officials at Wests have privately fumed they have received the raw end of the deal from the Wests Tigers marriage. They do not appear on the Wests Tigers logo...

I could have sworn that the word Wests appears on the Wests Tigers logo. What a ridiculous argument. Do we hear people complaining that the word Balmain doesn't appear?

And why would you have a picture of a magpie on a logo whose mascot is the tiger. Having the magpie on the shoulder is a nice gesture, but surely nothing more is warranted!

The Terror was always going to be the first paper to get a hold of this story and provide an article with a knee jerk reaction with minimal facts/integrity. Ignore this article.

I am more interested in reading the views of Fairfax papers and the NRL. I am particularly interested in where Gould will place his loyalties given he has championed himself as the saviour of western Sydney. Self interest is still rife in rugby league circles and there are many who would love nothing more than to see Wests Tigers walk away from Campbelltown.

Why is Wests Ashfield dumping the Footy team??

I think they consider it a waste of money - they're basically forking over good money for a team that plays some distance away from their club. Nobody is coming back from Campbo to go to Ashfield so there is no pay-off for them.

Most people are dancing around the core issue here so I'm just going to come out and say how I feel and be done with this without fear or care of being shot down.

I personally feel that this rally is being organised by people who are using Wests Juniors as a cop out for their own agendas. With Stephen Humphreys announcing that the Wests Tigers will injecting close to $1 million dollars that they will save from fielding one team in the NSW cup into junior leagues and junior league development programes, eliminates the rally's entire argument.

I think the people who are organising this rally need to take a step back and look at the bigger picture before continuing with their selfish crusade. They need to understand that the injection of these funds into the juniors is critical to the continued success of the Wests Tigers in the NRL. It's plain and simple that fielding a glorified park football team in the NSW Cup to appease the nostalgic side of a small group of people is detrimental to the growth of junior rugby league in the south west region.

I for one will be happy to see both Balmain and Wests fall off the NSW Cup face and will be happy to see a joint Wests Tigers team instead.
